I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"

RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.

I think I remember that the Rebels missed their second extra point making it 13-0 and thus having good reason to go for 2 when they scored again, making it 21-0.  But, they continued to go for 2 for the next 4 scores before halftime.  At that point, everyone knew a statement was being made.

Exactly right OR2. I say it was our sick kicker’s fault! In fairness, the ‘82 f’n hairtage team was good. The ‘83 team played ALOT of sophs.

I've been around youth sports for a long time.  I've never heard parents say that they wished they hadn't "redshirted" their child.  But, I've known quite a few that wished they had...especially when their child was really young for his/her grade.

Congrats! I’ll be your first.  It’s kind of silly. I can see where it would help teams to have more 19 yr olds playing, Not so much for the kid. It’s a sum of the parts I guess. As a coach, I’d rather have 30 who redshirted.

Maryville has been strong on the Oline  and RB the last few seasons. What has hurt Maryville is they haven't had the receivers or defensive backs the last few years that they had during their run.

100%. Need a couple of skill guys to both match up and be matched up with. I think they are playing other sports.

Talked to a man today that told me he had saw preliminary drawings of a new athletic indoor field house to be built on the present practice field at the high school for football and other sports use. Curious if anyone else has heard about this because I sure hadn't until this morning.

Sounds nice. I hope they don’t put it out toward Seymour with the baseball field.

I'm not sure what his job details are but you can bet your life their very limited with that witch in charge. I personally like the guy but I've been told his leash is so short he has no choice but to go along or face the firing squad Coach West did.

The one with the hammer should drive out toward Seymour for one of the home baseball games. If you come during a track meet, you can also get your walking steps in for the week. It’s like nobody talks to each other.

Back to grass! All for it!

BTW - I saw a nice looking new field out near walland gap yesterday. It looks great. I hear the one in LA also looks good.

How long before the "new" thing is having a real grass field?

The reason I posted about the football field had to do with someone in the middle giving permission to do it without asking the one that writes their check. Remember Wednesday when I said everything should be fine until the next episode of That Crazy Woman. Learned today that the golf coach of 20 plus years and the swimming & diving coaches have all resigned. Is this the next episode?

And I didn’t know they had a swim team. Prolly $1K to be on those teams as well. I think the golf coach should be an easy fill. I can’t remember many good divers except for a couple of buddies that used to jump out of the trees up at the Sinks.

I went. Sat with parents. Saw several of the football coaches and their kids. But I didn’t see one student except the cheerleaders.

The rebs are lucky to have such fans…credit to you rw. I watched online. It looked like we were as good as Cookeville, but not that day. Great season for those 2 seniors and all. Best team in ET.

Oh wow, I gotta say I never knew y’all were actually up in age. I thought you were either Maryville students or just parents who wanted to voice their opinions on this website. Of course, I know a lot of you are OGs of the website. You guys have really seen it all. Now, I don’t know if I look silly being a college student on this website. But I guess it’s just passion for a school. I’d imagine yalls alumni or just local school, but im going way over topic here. I wish him the best. I can’t imagine what he’s going through.

    I’m the youngest.

  11. I realize this is an early football thread, and there are various rumors floating around about portal opportunities, but has anyone else noticed the segregation of athletic programs at 825? For the first time in my 12 yrs, I didn’t see a fan or school official at any of the baseball games during spring break - only parents. Maybe it’s only happening with baseball? I hope the basketball team got support in the glass house. Did anybody go to middle TN other than parents?

The little fellers just pulled out and are on their way….

Good for them. You never know. They got a shooter, a center, a point guard, and a shutdown defender. Hopefully, they can make some shots.
