  1. Has anyone ever heard of or have any information on this event? It is billed as a showcase/competition for outstanding HS players in the region. Is this a worthwhile event to participate in ? Out of the Tennessee competetion they will select 30 players for 3 teams to represent TN at the International Sports Festival July 11-17 in Columbus,OH.
  2. Fairview avenged an earlier OT loss at Marshall County. Caleb Putnam scored the first 5 points of the game to help Fairview jump out to an early lead. James Curtis (14pts 7 Rebounds) added 7 second quarter points as Fairview held a 6 point lead at the half. Marshall County tied the game at the end of the 3rd quarter and jumped out to a 2pt. lead early in the 4th. Luke Putnam scored 7 of his 14 points in the 4th quarter including 4 of 5 at the charity stripe to put the game away for Fairview in the final 3:30. 3. Fairview dug in defensively to bounce back from a first quarter deficit, and pulled away down the stretch to earn a hard fought victory against Creekwood. Creekwood began the game scoring at will in the paint. Fairview center big Aaron Hand (6-6 275) came off the bench early in the second quarter and caused the Creekwood big men to alter their shots, while contributing 6 points off of lob passes from the Fairview backcourt. Fairview pulled to within 6 by halftime and tied the game at 46 after 3 quarters behind a balanced scoring attack and tenacious defense. Creekwood pulled to within 3 late in the 4th quarter on a trifecta by Matt Tidwell. James Curtis halted the Creekwood rally with 2 clutch free throws and Fairview held on for the win 60-55. James Curtis lead all scorers with 20 and Luke Putnam added 14. Jody Derra and Ross Primm contributed 13 a piece for Creekwood. 4. Well duceduce witnesses to crime scenes often have contradictory descriptions of the same event. From my viewpoint it did not look as if "as soon as he touched the ball he put it up". So there is no way we can ultimately distinguish between perception and reality (unless we could view the game tape, maybe). I base my argument that from outside the arc the minimum amount of motion required to propel the ball that distance would require more than just a touch and release. There had to be some degree of "wind up" involved Therefore I stick to my premise that .6 was insufficient time to release that shot. As far as would I have said the same thing if Fairview had won on the same shot. Yes I would. I would have said Fairview caught a break. Basketball games are often won or lost on who caught a break and who didn't. Lewis Co. caught the break this time. Maybe these teams will face off in the district again and if so, I'll just think of that as the overtime that should have taken place 3 weeks earlier.
  5. Never seen Matthew Dotson play but if he doesn't belong at UT as many of the trash talkers on this site contend, then Buzz Peterson must be a moron to waste a scholarship. I doubt that is the case. I would trust a D1 coach with a Tarheel pedigree over the opinion of all of the wanna be Bball pundits throughout this forum. I guarantee the UT coaching staff must see something that the basketball mental midgets on this board don't. Probably something like upside, Basketball IQ and the like. If in the armchair opinions of all those on this site, (except mine of course ) the homey doesn't belong in the SEC, don't denigrate the player, take it up with the Athletic Director at UT.
  6. IMHO the game should have gone into overtime, because it is virtually impossible to catch an inbounds pass, square up and shoot in .6 of a second. The Lewis Co. player did a great job in releasing quickly, however .6 sec. would only allow for a tip or throw-up off of a lob pass. The lack of precision officiating and clock work cost Fairview an opportunity to extend the game into overtime. Good game and good effort by both teams. thumb
  7. See it here in the photo gallery thumb http://www.coacht.com/gallery/single.cfm?PhotoID=27202
  8. As a neutral observer and having seen both teams play, i would be surprised if Giles Co. does not win by 35-40 pts. Page should put all these posts up on their locker room bulletin board for motivation however. Best of luck to both teams
  9. On the night I saw T.Smith play, his outside shooting had improved dramatically from last year. Barring injury he will contribute at UT as a freshman. The vast majority of freshman, no matter how impressive at the high school level have to adjust to the college game. For example take Mike Jones, currently at Maryland. He won the McD's All America 3 point shooting contest two years ago. 15 games into his sophomore year his productivity in games is just starting to catch up to his potential. College ball is for learning and improving over a 4 year span. That's why teams that win the National Championship usually have senior leadership. The verdict is out on what heights T. Smith will attain at the D1 level. Much of it will have to do with how hard he is willing to work and strength of character. He certainly has the God given abilities to attain alot. One thing for sure is that all Tennesseeans should be pulling for him no matter which high school program you are loyal to.
  10. I have stats to add but don't see the the olorful icon to the right of every game. or the three bars to add/edit the stats. Is the stats feature working and if so is it open for anyone to post? Thanks
  11. Tyler had 31 including four 3's (his outside shot is alive and well... put to rest the trash talk that he cannot shoot from the outside) Channing had 11 Fairview was led by James Curtis w/13 and Bobby Buttrey w/11 The only thing close about the game was Fairview's James Curtis @ 5'11'' matching Tyler Smith@ 6'7" vertical on the opening tip. (see the photo in the Giles Co. Photo Gallery) Here's the box score: http://db.tennessean.com/hs/site/tennessea...5&story_id=9063
