  1. Silly...yep, I'm sure I said silly! Cap, are you really Scott Smith? If not, better hope your guys strap it on. Not looking ahead to DB just yet.
  2. Malik McGue is the name of #4 and he is a fine young man, it would not suprise me at all if he waived at your son. (I am sure many playes from all teams would do the same especially at fields where crowds can get close to the field). Good write up on him in the paper Sat. - http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Sports/article.php?id=94894 (shout out to the press for finally giving the Toppers some love, really good article on the Hampton twins a couple weeks ago http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Sports/article.php?id=94565). Good night for the Toppers and hope for more of the same. As for Coach Carter, it is silly to think he will be gone if can't beat DB - he's doing exactly what he was brought here to do and he will win his share of the big games. No coach should have the expectation placed on him to develop a "powerhouse" or else. I think you could look at the SH posters on here (or lack of) and take it as a indication of the respect/leeway he is being given. Give the man some time, he has the support and will get things on track. BTW - Green was a little tender from getting rolled up on last week and would only have played if needed. Sorry Boone - not needed.
  3. If the defensive coordinator makes adjustments and personnel changes as needed, like he should have done against Greeneville, SH wins. If no changes it may be a long night. Always great emotion at this game and brings out the best in both towns about what Friday night should be. SH needs to have its best receivers on the field (great hands, not hype) that can get it done. It has to have middle linebackers that can step up and fill. The guy they brought in at half, big guy - Anthony Head, where in the world was he in the first half while Greeneville ran up the middle at will. You would think that after a team runs the same 3 plays for 3 td's you would get the boys together on the sidelines and try to figure out what the @$%& is going on. Oh yea, probably could't find the room with 20+ extra coaches / entourage in the way - and... why take all the extra players to an away game anyway? Anyone really think many soph. and freshmen getting on the field? Against Greeneville? Anyway, just needed to vent a little. Science Hill by 14
  4. Would like to hear your and others opinions/observations/analysis/excuses of the jamboree... Can't see how getting embarrassed just before the season opener can possibly be good for a team. But useless? wow
  5. Central - struggled but great uniforms - needs to pass and mix up formation Crockett - someone tell them to go on one - don't have the line to run the wing - worst tackling I have seen in a long time Volunteer - will be a long season, the change has to be made TN High - very quick - a little too much chest pumping for me Boone - did what they needed to do to go into season on a high note South - got better as the quarter went, didn't need to do much - needed better competition DB / SH - I would say there wasn't a lot of hoopin & hollerin on the bus back to Big K - Greeneville better strap it up
  6. Their jamboree quarter was painful to watch. You could just feel the enthusiasm leaving the boys and being replaced with a dread of what was going to happen this year. Volunteer just can't count on having a half dozen studs move into town. Must get all the available talent in the school on the team and that just isn't going to happen with the current staff. They will be fortunate not to have some jump ship as it is. If a school with 70 on the team plays 2 or 3 both ways a small school may have to play 8. Got to have your best on the field. Can't have any moral victories with a 1-9 season. Cut your losses and get a young, enthusiastic coach that will bring a few like him and turn things around.
  7. Come on guys... you know it's hard to talk sh%@ until it gets done on the field - and I'm not talking a lone miracle win. Sevier had better be happy this wasn't the opener. The Hill has a couple long runs/scores called back and had several personal fouls but it was good to see some emotion. Defense was better than the offense and they actually made all the extra points. Experienced secondary did well and the linebackers had several sacks, but gave up the most yards on busted plays - rushing too deep and over-pursuing. Offense did not pass very much but worked mostly on the ground game. Getting better with each scrimmage. Key now will be to get through jamboree without injury. Had a knee injury - a running back due to being horse collared on the 5 after going 50 plus yards - stupid mistake on the tacklers part. All in all, a good physical scrimmage that had both crowds excited and involved. The refs sure needed the practice and need to watch the film to check themselves. Besides - there is enough B.S. on here that is entertaining enough. We are content to sit back and see what unfolds this year - may be a few surprised folks out there, just hope I'm not one of them.
  8. On the other hand, get a couple breaks and it would be 8-2, I'm not sure Tn High and South would want to play those games over. They are where most folks thought they would be at the end of the season and with mostly Juniors and a couple Soph's starting, should improve next year. I think the Maryville score will be closer than you think. Hope a Big 8 team takes it all the way!
  9. If DB comes out flat like we did against Boone and it's close at half, it will be a game. I expect there will be some personnel changes that will give some of the kids an opportunity to get after it. Competition for a spot is a great motivator, we have a lot of players who don't seem to worry about losing their spot and that is a problem. Everyone is still on board and even though no one is happy with a loss, we realize that it may take several years to get on track. I am sure it will take Coach Carter another year or so to get the coaching staff the way he wants it, not only on the varsity level but also with the lower levels (which are key to the future and must be given more attention for player development). The program is headed in the right direction and sure, there will be plenty of bumps in the road.
  10. It might have something to do with the out of control tantrum he threw at halftime that shows just how far Coach Carter really has to go. The whole game seemed like a wreck unfolding before your eyes but no one makes an attempt to stop it. None of the coaches seemed willing or able to step up, get fired up, make adjustments and stop the bleeding. Cap, this is exactly the reason I don't talk sh%#. We don't need any more superstar newspaper articles - just starting receivers who can catch and young men who take some pride on defense, get a little mean and will not coast.
  11. That's a deal - I think we can keep it out of the ditch for another week. Oh, and I'm just trying to stay out of the line of fire - is there a prize for the person who says "poser" the most times in a month? Just sittin back and enjoying the show.
  12. PC? Hey, Thursday night city pep rally with smores, hotdogs, and the bonfire if need be in order to compete with those red devildogs - lets just say..... cautiously optimistic with a chance of beatdown
  13. And you won't. You guys have to understand The Hill is just tickled to death to be sitting where they are and let's be honest - 2 int's in the first minutes of a game against a good opponent is difficult for any team to overcome but they almost pulled it off - taking nothing away from TN High. The focus is to turn the corner and it will take several years of winning seasons and victories over DB and TN High before there is any chest bumping in public. No hype, no smack, just working on becoming believers and weeding out those with the attitudes. We just enjoy the banter between you big boys.
  14. Agree - great job on the video! The Hampton twins are playing free and strong safety and are bringing the wood - occasional plays at several offensive skill positions from what I've seen so far - 2 very stout and impressive young men. With those two and a corner (soph. Will Adams) returning next yr., the secondary should be pretty solid.
  15. DB 35-14 SHill 35-17 South 42-3 Crockett 28-3
  16. Cap, the Hill is just happy to try and compete and eke out a win each week. They were just lucky so many of the Pioneers had to go both ways. With so many young players its a wonder they can score at all. Yeah, yeah, etc.. Boone may need all the pump up the faithfull can muster because this won't be the 09 Toppers heading to Gray.
  17. DB 38-10 (South will not get embarrassed too bad) SHill 24-7 (The Hill will bounce back) Boone 35-7 (really any doubt?) Tn High 42-7 (still a little sore)
  18. Central by 7 Crockett by 7 Boone by 14 Greeneville by 10
  19. Dobyns-Bennett 28-14 Science Hill 17-16 South 42-0 Crockett 28-14
  20. Don't be mistaken, we are on board 100%... just cautiously optimistic. The theme this year might be described as short on promising and long on performing.
  21. We are giddy sitting at 3-0 and don't want to rock the boat. No one here thinks we are a powerhouse and just hope the team shows up tomorrow and competes well. We have several years of being successful before we are even considered as a "powerhouse" - although there is no doubt we will get there!
  22. It all starts with the head coach and the people he surrounds himself with. Sure, you may luck out and get some studs in a given year that will make it happen - but year in and year out success depends on a coach that implements a program that takes all the factors that will focus on winning. Parents, boosters, community, teachers, athletic director, the kids and the feeder programs. He will gauge the talent for that year and run the offense and defense that best suits the talent. The football program will typically be going in one direction or the other (success or failure). Any program that has a coach for 5 to 8 yrs. and does not win on a consistent basis needs to give the reins to another. When you are down, its like the plague. When winning, all is good. The only option may be to give a young guy the opportunity who has assisted at a winning school and has the energy to devote several years of his life to the program, and yes, that is what it takes. Clean house and change directions if that is what it takes. When the kids believe, the parents and school will follow. I keep saying program because it is not any one thing that brings success. All those parents who bad mouth on Saturday but will not lift a hand to raise a dime or park a car are also to blame. Everyone has a role to play in helping the program, do your part and don't worry so much about what others are doing. Remember, the kids hear everything you say and it effects them when it is always in conflict with what the coaches are trying to teach. Forget the name and the politics, what direction is the program headed?
