  1. I knew the fans were too hard on Boones Coach, he makes good adjustments. As for Volunteer there are too many problems to fix in one week. Boones Coach actually showed a lot of Class by not trying to block every punt.I believe Boone could have came close to blocking them all. Your in trouble when 2 or 3 players meet your running back 2 yards behind the line on most plays and your QB is running for his life. I noticed attendance was down and now Volunteer fans seem to accept our fate. It is hard to watch sloppy play. I was hoping they would pass out free Pizza and Coke to cheer up the crowd. Do the players understand their positions? Are they told what to do and do not listen? I will be honest . If I did not have a child playing I would not pay 6 Dollars to see another game this year. As for Boone keep Improving, your players and Coaches did well. I only wish we had one third of your zeal for the game.
  2. I agree most of them think they are perfect. Do they ever wonder why few people in this area pull for them to win in the playoffs. They should travel and play bigger schools. You know your in trouble at the games when the referees make a point to go see the DB fans, this happens at BBall games many times.I do not agree with unsportsman like actions, but DB is no angel
  3. Your right the middle schools usually do well, To answer your question we only had a small number of kids out for the Freshman Team, so they cancelled and put all the kids on the JV. However then more kids came out late, but it was too late for a full round of games. The effort to play everyone resulted in a large number of kids getting little or no experience. It was a sight that would make you sick, seeing all the confusion. I am like most people I want to win, but If I can not please let it be because the other team is better. I believe others on this post are being too hard on Boones Coach, I think he will adjust and make a good effort for the season. I think they should look at his past seasons, he has proven himself.
  4. I am not a Rebel fan but I sure hope they win, I bet there are many who feel the same. One day soon DB will have big challenges when Science Hill gets going. It may even help them prepare for post season Ha Ha
  5. Boone will win unless they lay down and give it away, Volunteer will probably do the sames as in the past, Delay of game, offsides, run players in and out who could help the Team. We are also suffering because of lack of experience due to the lack of a freshman team last year. Special Teams are not great. Really hate that Rogers is hurt, we need everything to fall into place to win
  6. I suggest you complain to the TSSAA and get them to change the conferences so you could play schools your own size. It might help you get ready for the playoffs by playing the right size schools. One other thing, maybe after annexing more of Colonial Heights, you could talk your politicians into evening out the student body between North, South and DB. Then maybe we could all play one another in the same conference
  7. I disagree, my oldest son played basketball and football. He was a good player, getting offers in Football and Basketball. If you knew him, I guarantee you would never question his desire to compete hard. He always said It was hard to be ready to play when you felt like you were at a funeral. These are kids, let them talk and have fun. Only a few kids have a chance to play College, the rest play because they enjoy it. Why play If is not fun? They could be earning money, going out on dates or on the bad side get into trouble. I was fortunate my son recieved a full scholarship for acedemics, so he chose not to play sports, but he does miss it. There is no requirement that I know of to have a Football Team, and I know there is not a requirement to play, so let the kids have fun. Another thing, why cancel the freshman games? Also we do not have to win every game, but be competitive in most of the games. The student body is getting shoved away by not having pep rallies, why would they care? The most important thing is academics and character. We do not have to have a football team to develope that. The students will vote on the program by playing or chosing to do something else. If it is not fun the numbers go down.
  8. My son played 4 years for Coach Whittemore. I believe he always was competitive no matter how low our talent was on any given year. In my opinion that is exactly all that can be asked of a Coach. If you do not win at least have a game plan and play hard, and that is what I have seen from Coach Whittemores Teams. Some kids have a hard time getting ready for the season. They may be lazy, spoiled or lack a competitive spirit. Sometimes things heat up as a Coach who is competitive tries to motivate the kids. My son had a chance to play college Basketball and Football, but instead was lucky enough to get a full scholarship for leadership/academics. He is now a Junior in College. I believe Coach Whittemore always tried to help our kids and for the sake of my son and others I am grateful. He still keeps in contact with former players, I believe because he cares. He has shared basketball, academics, and even personal issues with his players. Some coaches are through with their former players after they graduate. The critics and players need to realize, Life is hard and those that have the gumption and preserverence to keep going will do fine. I believe my son prepared for College and Life on the basketball court. No matter how tough things get NEVER give up or QUIT! Many parents think that making life easy for kids is best, Lets get real LIFE IS ROUGH ! Remember they are more places than a classroom to prepare for College or life
  9. I agree, The single-wing could possibly be OK if it had been run for years prior, but I think it is a terrible offence to just throw in and expect all that ball handling to go just right.Too many possible ways to fumble, and make mistakes. I again say, I would rather see an I formation or any formation that runs at the line. Then the plays are easy to learn and more time can be given to proper blocking and execution. The single wing the way we run it takes way to long to execute and does not hid the ball the way it was designed to do. Another bad thing is cancelling the freshman games, that will hurt future falcons. We may not have been an 8 and 2 Team, but I believe we should have been 5 and 5, and should have been very close in 3 loses. It takes too long for us to adjust, or should I say not adjust to different situations. I do hope the kids come out ready to play and not get discouraged. One thing Boone Fans should remember, never plan a game ahead. If I remember right we played a 4 and 0 Boone Team several years ago and beat them. I am not predicting a win, I am just saying never assume a win.
  10. I do not think a Falcon can fly with one wing, It was very painful to watch the defensive ends line up wide and run in without being touched. I believe If we try handing the ball off at least five times, then pitch it out and throw a long pass we will win.( During the same play ) I miss the QB under center. I also believe our linemen should get their running workout during practice, not by running in and out during the game. It would be funny, but I know It's not to any of us fans or the players. The only thing worse than Friday Night, was the last JV game. Anybody can see the program is crumbling, no freshmen team, JV games are a three ring circus. They should pay fans and give them a free coke and popcorn. Oh well the players can decide If they really want to play, I guess Football is still optional and not mandatory. I am really surprised at the fan support, It's good to see loyal fans win or lose
  11. The defence has struggled all year, you know your in trouble when your secondary is tackling runners who went through the middle of the line. We are too easy to block, we do not show different looks to the offence. If you can pressure the QB it will help your secondary. Unfortunately for Volunteer canceling the Freshman games will hurt our future teams, Now our JV has to share playing time with freshman. It not only hurts our competitiveness, it hurts the morale of the boys. It will really surprise me if they do not lose many players by next season. I do not mind losing if I know the players and coaches have put their best effort. I believe it will be harder to field a good team, if the trends continue. One question, why do we need all the coaches if we do not have a freshman team? At least help the tax payers.
  12. I really believe Crockette just had some bad luck, What I saw was sloppy play by a Volunteer Team who had some luck on their side. Volunteer could not take care of the blitz, one punt was almost blocked went ten yards and bounced off a crockette player for a turn over. I would have loved to be happy but I could not forget the terrible times, penalties, missed blocks, etc. I think Crockette has some good players, They have been a few mistakes away from a very good team the last several years in basketball and football. I wish them luck, they have had it rough like us.
  13. Give Stacy Carter 2 years at Science Hill and DB will have a good way of getting ready for the other schools down the line. I will bet they will not be a push over
  14. I believe that group who played during that time had so much potential that was wasted. How come our middle schools do so well, and later look like they never played before. Some of those kids were on the unbeaten Freshman team, they were only scored on once near the end of a game when we had the win secured. There are lots of good kids who are passing thru, but we will retain less if things stay the same. We should always have at least 20-25 seniors and 20-25 juniors every year for a school our size. I hope the season turns around, I find myself feeling sorry for those kids, especially the seniors. It will be hard for the single -wing to keep pace with the points the defense will allow. If you think about it we have scored and moved the ball. There is another problem I see with special teams, it seems we have trouble on kick off/ returns. Anyone think we can win Friday against Cherokee?
  15. What is DBs record against schools their own size? Thats what matters.
  16. I also believe Central is our only chance to win. Elizabethton and North are good football teams, but they are smaller schools. I am afraid we played two we should have won. The Big 8 has more competiton. I also believe SHHS is not yet a great football team. I would like to see the I formation, I know we have a couple big people who could play fullback to go with our fast backs. Also why do we have to pass it long? Ten yards is still a firstdown. I can not stand too much side ways running like the single wing. We can probably ( I Hope ) keep the Cherokee game respectable. They are about as close a match as we have. I would like to see us win, for the kids sake.
  17. I agree with you, I would rather have a QB under center/shotgun. On any given High School team there are a few who have the chance to continue play in college, but most kids play because they love the game and cherish long friendships formed on a team. If you notice winning teams get more looks by colleges and they will tell kids this at recruiting camps. This causes many good athletes to be overlooked. All that leaves is the love of the game for many. How can kids love being embarrassed every Friday nite. Where is payoff for the long hot summer practices? If our team could just win 5 games every other season and maybe 3 or 4 the others, and at least be close on 80 percent of the loses it would help. There is a big difference to me losing by 28+ points, or keeping it to within say 7 or 10 points. I believe the Team is already suffering from the bad seasons when you look at the number of Freshmen out. It makes it look worse for our future. I went to the game at SHHS and felt so bad for those kids, they are so much better than that score indicated. One other thought, we need a set of audibles for our QBs, ( for blitz etc.).I hope things get better, but its hard to have a good attitude when you know things could be better.
