  1. Someone mentioned that Volunteer has had a winning tradition in football? That is farthest from the truth statement I have ever, ever heard! It is actually sad if anyone thinks they have a winning tradition. If you are talking about when Volunteer was in lower class...not even then! When they win 4/5 games a year...that is a good year for them. Facts are facts. Not downing anybody. Can't sugar coat that topic.
  2. as of now, i really don't care how they do. the way they treat coaches, how they make decisions, ridiculous. i hope this new coach knows what he is getting into. i hope he does well for himself. if he doesnt, they will not stand behind him. also, if he doesnt do what the "locals" who thinks they run the place, he will not last two years.
  3. I have seen volunteer teams (boys/girls/football) have GREAT potential in the off season. Next years team may as well. I hope I am wrong, but mark my words...some parent or staff member of the school or community will get jealous and SCREW it up before Volunteer has TRUE success in sports. To be honest, the only sport that has had true success (long term) is softball. Jealousy runs rampid in Church Hill and Mt Carmel. With my experience with basketball, I agree with playing AAU is the best way to get looks from colleges. You can't bypass playing AAU and not get a DI scholarship anymore. You can't be that arrogant and closed minded about it. Anyway, I hope I am wrong about the falcons this year. I will believe it when I see it. Meyer may be a great coach, but who in their right mind would let the ex coach come on staff to help? craziness. However, kuddos for him for having enough gall to play freshman and sophomores instead of seniors with the same or less ability! I dont care how you slice it...that is how you build programs.
  4. OK...this is very strange to me. Why hasn't the DNJ reported this yet?????? When the girl's coach resigned...next day. When Hodges resigned...well you get the picture. Where is the DNJ on this?
  5. wonder what happened? and why so late?
  6. this is tooooo funny to watch. good luck to coach whitt for getting the johnson county job(if indeed he goes). if it is single a or even aa he might be able to go pretty far in the tourney in a couple of years. they have a pretty good following up there. do they still come down to the christmas tourney at volunteer? that will be fun to watch. the postings did say coaching oppurtinities, BUT IT did not say head coaching position. kind of pitiful. they must have had somebody in mind since christmas. anyway.
  7. What do you all mean that the interviews are almost complete? NOTHING has been posted. Yes the Hawkins county job postings says, "coaching positions," but nothing about a head coach. DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. Can someone please clarify? Bueller, Bueller, Anyone, Bueller?
  8. I would think he would be better off in the long run if he stays in Greeneville. Great feeder programs...etc...etc. Especially playing with that kind of talent in a lower division. good situation for him! why would you want to keep an assistant from the coaching staff you got rid of? not unless we have some back stabbing going on. no i am not trying to stir the pot at all, but that doesn't make sense. the assistant i HOPE has loyalty to coach whitt. and what is up with his license? does he not a teacher already? AND why hasn't the posting already been put up on the board or tssaa web site? sounds like something fishy going on.
  9. Maybe so...but if whitt stays in the school...mark my words...it will not take long for things to start to crumble. no win situation. just like the girls awkwardness. anyway, wish them the best of luck.
  10. sounds about right...no search for a good coach...simple minds. on the other hand, i hope he does well. especially if whitt stays at the school to teach.
  11. why would you hire someone that was part of the problem? I mean...he may not have been the main problem, but he had to have input on how to treat players, etc. At that level you need to make a SPLASH or homerun hire, to get the community of Church Hill and Surgoinsville excited about basketball again. SPeaking with a lot of the community...they are about done with volunteer period. It doesn't seem like the sporting events are "the place to be" And if any area needs a boost positively, that one does.
  12. who is barnett? has he played college or been a head coach at a school? i have not noticed any postings or anything. if they don't post...how can they get possible very qualified candidates.
  13. Thank you for clarifying! Again, he is a great person(what I know of him). What does volunteer have coming back next year? Freshman, etc? What about Cherokee? Anybody know?
  14. church hill connection...sounds about right. reed is a good person, but i don't think he has the right personality for it. needs a strong willed person to handle that. besides...has he been coaching AT ALL?
