  1. Expect WC to defer if they win the toss. They love to get the 1st possession of 2nd half. WC coaches have had good success managing the clock to get the last score of 1st half and the first score of 2nd half.
  2. CA was ready to play tonight. Their D was pretty impressive. Running game looked good too. WC looked flat & a little uninspired. I give CA credit for making plays, but they definitely benefited from some questionable calls at key points of the game. WC had a good season overall. It's hard to win on the road in the 2nd round of the playoffs. CA has a really good team. Good luck to them against NCS. Should be another good game.
  3. I had the pleasure of watching a very good CA-WC regular season game Oct. 11th. I thought CA's QB (Cary) was pretty sharp. He threw the ball well and had good pocket-presence and some elusiveness. The receivers were very impressive as well. Thompson (#1) proved that he can go up and get the ball and has great hands. CA ran the ball just enough to be effective. They showed great speed getting to the outside. The Garrison kid (#8) in particular hurt WC getting to the edge and upfield so quickly. It was easy to see that CA has plenty of speed and athleticism at the skill positions. WC looked a little stonger and more physical up front on both sides of the ball. They love to pound the ball and make you stop their strong run game. When you overcommit to stopping the RB's the QB will keep it and hurt you for a big gain. He can also throw the ball down field and hurt you with his arm. The Kelly kid has consistently had good hands and has emerged as nice downfield threat at WR. I look for WC to try to pound the ball, eat up the clock, and limit CA's possessions. Old conventional football wisdom says that the team that runs the ball, plays better defense, and has fewer turnovers wins (especially come playoff time). If WC takes care of the ball and limits CA's big plays, they should get the win. If CA can get a couple turnovers and hit 4 or more big plays (25+ yd chunks of yds) they should be in good shape to get the W tonight. Either way, I look forward to a another good game at a great single A football facility. Good luck to both teams.

  7. Wow! I've watched the game twice now (live @ Cookeville & on DVR)... I think SP had a very good team. I think SP had a size advantage. I think SP had some super quick athletes. I think SP might still be wondering how they lost by 13 to WC. I think the answer is that WC has a tremendous TEAM. WC has discipline, leadership, & they truly play together. I think WC was hungrier & they played with the most heart.... That was the biggest difference. Congrats to WC & SP on great seasons.
  8. Championship Game Prediction: WC 21 South Pitt 20
  9. No, the final score of the WC-Huntingdon game was 26-13. WC had 20 when they scored the last TD off the kickoff lateral & the last PAT was NO GOOD. I saw the officials wave "NO GOOD". They put 27 on the scoreboard at the game, but it was a mistake. TSAA has it correct at 26-13. I bet if you watch the video of the game you'll see the officials signal "no good" on the last PAT.
  10. South Pitt. over Gordonsville 28-21 Wayne Co. over West Carroll 35-14
  11. Amazing finish to an amazing game. Huntingdon has a great team & should be very proud of their season. Wayne Co. played great team defense all night & made just enough plays on offense to get the win. P. Mathis (10) made a great play on the 67 yard TD catch & run. A. Rice (21) played great all night. Great team effort. Now take care of business at home against W. Carroll & go get a gold ball for Wayne Co.
  12. Glad you feel that way, but that's not exactly the case. WC doesn't throw the ball anywhere near as much as they did the past 2-3 years, but they're still very capable. As for PC last week, it looked to me like Tucker had several good throws that the WR's didn't hold on to. WC's WRs are quicker & have better hands than PC's. WC prefers to run, but they can & will throw as needed.
  13. S. Pittsburg over Coalfield 41-7 Gordonsville over Eagleville 27-20 Wayne Co. over Huntingdon 21-14 Union City over W. Carroll 28-14
  14. I'm very familiar with WC, but have only seen Huntingdon once, that being the video of the PC game. Based on that, I think it will be a very competitive game. Both teams did essentially the same thing in the first halves of their games against PC. Huntingdon had some pretty short fields to work with where WC had some longer drives. I give credit to Huntingdon's kickoff team. They kicked it near the goal line & covered it very well. WC needs to do a better job with field position than PC did. I think WC's defense can play with Huntingdon's physical offensive attack. They just better make sure to keep 15 & 18 contained. WC cannot afford to miss tackles or give up big plays. On offense, I think WC can mix in the pass along with a physical running game. Huntingdon needs to play better pass defense because WC has some pretty good athletes outside who know how to play the ball when its in the air. As with any game, the team with the fewest turnovers & penalties will have a great shot at winning this one. After that, whoever has the most big plays will win.
  15. I honestly do not know much about Eagleville other than they are undefeated. I guess I base my pick on them beating Forrest at Chapel Hill which I interpret as a good win, considering that a real good PC team had a fairly close game against Forrest early in the season. I know that WC and PC both handled CA pretty easily, so I go with Eagleville at home. Just my opinion. I hope that CA wins though. I pull for Region 6. I'm even less familiar with Gordonsville. They may win by 40 like you predict. The PC-Huntingdon game really intrigues me. I've heard all year how good Huntingdon is, but I really don't know. I do know that PC is a very good team & their past two games against WC & JB (a road loss & a road win) will only make them better & give them more confidence. I know PC will play with tremendous heart. #5 & #10, are great athletes & they will give a great effort, especially on defense. Don't know if it will be enough to beat Huntingdon though.
  16. Round 2 Picks Coalfield over LV 28-14 S. Pitt over Greenback 49-14 Eagleville over Columbia Academy 34-28 Gordonsville over Nashville Christian 27-14 Huntingdon over Perry Co. 21-12 Wayne Co. over Clarksville Academy 27-10 Lake Co. over Union City 28-12 West Carroll over Gleason 20-6
  17. The first play of that drive was a read option out of the spread formation. The QB & RB had some confusion and the ball was put on the ground and then covered by the QB for a 3-5 yard loss. Once they got behind in down & distance the O Coordinator tried 2 consecutive pass plays that were not executed very well. It looked like there was a mix-up on one of the pass routes. Anyway, if that first play would have gotten any positive yards at all (or even gotten back to the line of scrimmage), I'm sure there would have been at least one more running play called. But it's hard to make those decisions when there are 10-11 guys on defense within 2-3 yards of the line of scrimmage. That's definitely when a play-caller earns his pay.

  19. Good luck to both teams. I hope to see an injury-free game with few turnovers and few penalties. I think WC wins this one. My prediction is: WC 27 - PC 20
  20. I've got a feeling that Boston stays around the line of scrimmage a lot tonight to keep a close eye on Tucker. I think they'll get together several times throughout the course of the game.
  21. It's been said by WCHS school personnel that Rudy has confirmed that he will be at the game. Don't expect him to stay long no matter how exciting the game is...channel 4 has a large viewing area & most of it doesn't care all that much about single A football.
  22. I said it last year & I'll say it again this year, I really hope everyone recognizes & appreciates the talent that these teams possess. Both are playing at a very high level & teams/games like these don't come around too often. PC & WC fans have been spoiled. I really hope one of them wins the gold ball, or at least makes it to Cookeville this year, before the level of play drops off. What a group of players, coaches, & fans. And yes, I'd love to suit up again & play in a big game like this.
