  1. last year they could not have asked for a better draw, they were in the opposite side of the bracket from both of those teams. Also I wouldn't classify Greenback as a dominant force, tough team maybe but until they win it I wouldn't use "dominant".

I dont know, they seem pretty dominant around here, for a 270 student school, usually win their region, dominated east tenn for the past few years, nobody in the surrounding counties have beaten them in a long time,as far as state championships go,no havn't won one,but have went to the state about five out of last eight yrs.I think they deserve that credit.I think all the big schools around knox would say they are dominant, wouldnt you?

  2. Can't really argue with your logic but this game really shouldn't have been close last year either and it was. Long odds for a shorthanded GB team for sure, but every year there is a big upset two where the winning teams had no business besting a bigger, stronger and better team and yet they did. Hopefully GB will be one of the spoilers this year.

You've got a good point, but i think we may have worn out our welcome with the Rockwood win,but we shore did give them a scare last year, would love to see a win on their home field! One thing about the history of Greenback football,it's hard to count them ole country boys out!Believe me i'm hoping for the best.Good luck boys!

  3. Not sure this one will be close. Goodson out for year, Seymour brothers may not play and word is Miller may wrestle instead of playing in the game. Is this true?

Miller is a wrestler who plays football, this tournament is huge for his academic and athletic future(not to mention finacially for his family). We have been very fortunate that he has decided to play football as much as he has.He will be back for the playoffs, good luck Jeremy!

  4. Greenback still plenty banged up and missing key players. They would have had a much better shot at winning this one a few weeks ago. Still, this one may yet turn out to be fun to watch, not much to lose so I would expect some creative and unique play calling from the GB staff, much like last years shoot out between these two.

Maj,i'm as big an optimist as any Greenback fan,but i just dont see this game being any fun for players or fans, going to Grace without at least three starters, two of them are probably 21 pts for or against offensively and defensively.Jeremy i just heard will miss for the all american wrestling tourn(and i completely understand why)then richard, these two are our most productive offensive players, not to mention what they bring to the defense.McCloud has been hurt all year, went out early at Tellico, probably wont play till playoffs, two freshman at safety and one will play ay Quarterback,i just hope none of these young kids get hurt.If Greenback can even stay close i will be surprised, after Richard went out at tellico we couldnt sustain a drive,i'm worried about this one with the [playoffs looming near, remember what happened the last time we went there, lost two major contributors over stupidity from williams.Hopefully we can get out of this one without any more injuries!

  5. Not sure what " tellico had the brakes beat of them..." means but I do know Tellico had a couple of big injuries and other reasons some of their better players couldn't play this year, no doubt contributing to a thus far winless season. Injuries hurt 1A schools even worse, simply no depth. The better athletes on these small schools almost always play more than one position so while Greenback may still be able to get good production out of the QB position, losing this kid really hurt the defense and special teams. Just focusing on the QB stats won't really give an accurate measure of the loss of a good athlete on a team this small. While Tellico played inspired ball, far better than their record would indicate, the loss of a Greenback DB who also played QB really helped them almost achieve a pretty good upset.

I agree 100% maj, didnt mean to sound like he didnt mean much to the team, just making the point we can still survive,i surely know that we cant afford to lose any athlete as small as we are, just that the two are very comparable,we took a much harder hit last week,in a school our size cant afford to lose one good athlete much less the three we lost last week.As for special teams i dont think he played on any,but he did help the defense, think he had a couple of interceptions. He has a great team of surgeons down in Birmingham Ala,that think they can get him back before fall, spring is out of the question tho.

  6. For the people that say Greenback won't miss a beat I would like for you to explain. Greenback was 3-7 last year. You had a QB that has rushed for over 400 yds and thrown for almost 700 and you think he won't be missed? How long has the Miller kid played QB? 1 quater? He is a good athlete but he played against Lookout Valley (2 wins) and now has Tellico Plains (0 wins). I don't doubt the kid will do fine but do you not think that if the Miller kid was better that he would have been the starter? Do you think you would be 6-2 without Goodson? Just asking? Again, the kid apparently has a severe injury and I think Miller will do fine, but do you not think we would be better off with him as QB?

I believe the quote was they didn't miss a beat against LV,didn't say they wouldn't miss a beat for the rest of the year,we like Hogan very much, just giving jeremy a little kudos,he played very well for Hogan, nobody is knocking Hogan. You said it just like we did,we believe they will be just fine, dont make this into a jeremy against Hogan or Greenback against Hogan,i dont know if you were around last year but you cannot compare the two seasons at all, coaching staff was a mess last year!If you want me to be honest, yes i do think we could be 6-2 without Hogan,we wouldn't be 6-2 without richard Seymour,he IS the difference maker right now!The differences of the two are not that great,Jeremy didnt lose the job,he was just more valuable as a reciever, you have to have your best athletes on the field, and Hogan and Jeremy are both great athletes. The two are very comparable. We are very happy to have Hogan,we also wish him a speedy recovery,we definatly have to have him play big next year.I think we will be fine with either one at QB,but right now we have to get behind Jeremy,he is the QB right now.

  7. why is Greenback in this poll.. They dropped games to Sweetwater and Harriman too. Where's Harriman's respect at. They play a tough schedule so they dropped 2. But it was to 2 teams who just dropped their first ones not too long ago

My thoughts on why Greenback is in the poll,a school who is and has always been a true single A school,270 students in high school but almost every year have one of the ten best teams in single A for 25 years, they usually have 30 to 33 kids on the sidelines, where teams like Harriman who are actually 2A schools have 40 to 50,we usually always schedule 2A and 3A non conference games, and we have a strong tradition, thats where the respect comes from, not to down Harriman you all out played us without a doubt, and your schedule was tough to,but polls are just what they are POLLS,they dont mean nothing until you are the last one standing,2 thru 10 dont mean a thing it's #1 after game 15 that counts, this is to generate interest thats all.I have feeling we will see you all again anyway and that will be the one that counts!Good luck Bluedevils.

  8. 1999.....Wartburg 20.....Rockwood 14......Rockwood went 1-9 that year......had to look it up......however i do remember when this years Sr.'s were in 8th grade, Wartburg did beat Rockwood in the MS playoffs.....this should be a good game

I would like to see this one should be a great game, good luck both teams.

  9.

With the changing of the blocking rules in the early 1990's, the blocking sleds (2 and 7 man) and the blocking chutes have lost most of their utility. These aides were to teach offensive linemen to come out low and fast, to keep the back straight, to stay low and get leverage and to keep the feet driving tghrogh the opponent. Today, with "blocking" replaced by "showing," these principles do not apply. There is no need to get low, no need to drive through the opponent, just grab and control him at arm's length. The sleds may have more useefulness for defensive coaches attempting to teach forearm shivers and shedding blocks. Coaches and fans do not appreciate the changes brought about to football at all levels by the new blocking rules of t he 1990s. The subject would require pages, but et it be said that the spread formations we have today would n ot be possible without allowing blockers to put their hands on defenders on every play.

This coming from someone who was a lineman and has coached line, and from a team who usually has undersized linemen(Greenback),the blocking sled is a very valuable piece of equipment, yes i love the board and one on one battles but the conditioning lineman get from the sled is so much better than any other conditioning not the same on a one or two man sled, plus teaches teamwork, and the"new"blocking rules can still be learned from the sled, facemask, punch, extend,if you dont do it right the sled wont move neither will your opponent,i dont know about your football but if you dont get low and chop them feet you dont get the push needed to run the ball.A practice field without a five man sled just dont look like a football field!

  10. Why is it that the only person who has even mentioned that GB was supposed to scrimmage you is you? I would stop listening to those voices in your head man not only could they be dangerous to your health, they could be dangerous to the health of your kittens.

This is a good one, funny! Now back to Midway,On paper i guess we should win this one easily, something tells me it wont be,i hope i'm wrong and we get to throw the ball around a little bit,if we are going to make a playoff run we have to be able to throw the ball.Gonna have to take some pressure off of seymour, that being said what a year so far for the sophmore,800 yrds rushing so far!

  11. Can we go down to roane county and finish strong?Midway has always been a tough place to play, can the Kees put two good games bach to back, this is a pivotal game for us,i would say a have to win, kids played with vigor against the indians, but that night is over, time to get after the green waves. This may be the week to try and open the offense up(can we)?Remember Sweetwater, dont get caught looking down the road, one game at a time,we are to young for anything else,Finish strong Kees!

  12. This game could be a great one, it depends on which GB team shows up. first 3 games we played hard and really swarmed defensively caused a bunch of turnovers and never let the opponents O control much of anything. The last 2 Friday nights It has seemed like the kids didn't really want to be there.

Matback the kids showed some intensity tonight, played with emotion and pulled out a good victory,Oneida is going to be a beast next few years(so should we),and by the way go back to your side of the fence when the game starts!haha.#9 had a great second half, played like a captain should! If you dont see me hitting balls this week i'll see you fri.Another big one down South Of the River!

  13. Scheduleing is going to be tough, the way the playoffs are going to be done this season is penalizing small schools for playing up. I think the 1a coaches from here to the Knoxville area have gotten together and desided to play each other.I'm sure the playoff format will change after this season, but you are going to see quite a few schools crying foul come playoff time. Its a mess. You could win you're region and be seeded lower than a team in you're own region. Sounds crazy, but from what I understand, its true.

Oneida,i hate to see this one leave(for now i hope)this is my all time favorite rival as a fan and as a player,i have two sons on this team, and i'm glad they have had a chance to play against the indians, always a respect between these two programs,no matter who the coaches are, this is real small town football,no posers here, just kids playing for tradition rich programs.Glad to see Greenback winning more than losing again, this team is young, only three seniors start on D,and three on the O,sophmore and freshman heavy, future looks real good for both teams,i do hope we reevaluate this and get back on the schedule together,i love the trip up to onieda.good luck guys we were in your shoes last year, but hit the weights and practice harder it will turn around, some one made a comment on coalfield and sunbright,Coalfield is a very tough ball club(they are very young also)it will be tough to beat them, but sunbright on the other hand you all should handle.By the way we still try to schedule 3a and 2a for our non disrict games, cant get better unless you play better!
