  1. She certainly has the body to do great things in volleyball. She just needs experience and she will be hard to handle.
  2. How did the tall middle look?
  3. Oak Ridge WILL NOT get past District. There, it is on record. Now we will just wait until October to see who predicted correctly. How did Farragut, Webb, AC, and Oak Ridge do this past weekend? Was anyone there?
  4. How did OR do at AC this weekend? How did AC do?
  5. I dont think Oak Ridge will be as good as they were last year. They really dont have anyone. Coach Foster is a good coach, but you have to have players too. You need both. Other schools have talent with no coach and some have good motivating coaches with no talented players. One thing is for sure, we will soon know who are the best teams in the Knoxville area! I cant wait until you watch your wonderful player at CAK play this season. Things will be different.
  6. This is all hilarious. Oak Ridge will be done in Districts. If they are lucky, they will finish third, but I think it might be worse than that. I agree somewhat with Karns having "club" players. I know that Pheonix Rising doesnt go to all the big tournaments that other clubs do, but they still are playing in the off season so they are doing more than most other District 3 teams. I dont think CF has ever beaten AC, but this could be the year. AC is going to be down more than previously because of losing six seniors, BUT, they always seem to find a way to win games, so I wont count them totally out. I think the Bearden setter is one of the best setters this year in the Knoxville area. Farragut will be really good, but I have heard they are going to use a Junior setter, so I dont know how well that will work out. Hardin Valley will always be a contender because they, like Farragut, are loaded with club players that play at the highest level. The season is almost upon us! Cant wait!!
  7. Why does it seem like PHargis is the only one who is allowed to post and have opinions? If the opinions of others are different, then PH wants to end discussion. Obviously there were some replies to this thread unlike a lot of PH's threads. I like to read everyone's opinion even if it includes beating the dead horse all the way until next season. Keep on posting!
  8. I really dont see the problem with it myself. I get a little tired of the government (TSSAA, etc.) telling us what to do and what not to do. If we find a really good coach that happens to coach club and high school, I think that is our business. The only argument I can see against it is it giving an unfair advantage to schools with money. But we have that anyway. At least in East Tennessee, the only school that has really good teams year after year with middle to low income families and very few club players (money), is Anderson County. The others are Hardin Valley, Farragut, Webb, CAK, (sorry if I did not mention them all). These schools have the money to have several players in club anyway. So I dont think it makes any difference about an unfair advantage. That is the only agument I have heard. Please enlighten me to any reasons to the rule. Thanks
  9. I do believe that HS coaches can coach their own players in club in the off season. There is one club in East Tennessee that the director of the club coaches the 18 team and is the head coach of a high school. There have been questions about that in the past to whether or not it is right for this coach to do that. I dont think anything is wrong with it myself. If the players are paying for off season club ball and the coach wants to coach them in the off season, then that is their business not the TSSAA. I would like to know if it is legal or not though, but I doubt it is because it does go on out in the open.
  10. Well Nationals was fun! There were some storms that came through and caused a lot of damage and power outages across the Columbus area, but power was still on at the Convention Center. K2 teams played hard and finished well. 12-1's finished 28th in National, 13-1's finished 7th in National, 14-1's finished 25th in National, and 15-1's finished 33rd in American. Hope everyone had a great season. Now its time for High School ball!
  11. K2 Volleyball Club has four teams going to the USA Junior Olympic Nationals in Columbus Ohio this year. Congrats to those players, coaches, and parents. I know they have all worked so hard all season.
  12. Then you certainly should stay away from Clinton High School!
  13. Let the Club season begin! Good luck to everyone in your tryouts and upcoming tournaments.
  14. I just heard it is near the airport. Some kind of tennis facility or something. Any new news? I'm very curious!
  15. Its like a website rent-a-cop with a lot of time on their hands!
  16. Did Halls beat Oak Ridge both meetings? If not, then how is ranking determined for the district tournament?
  17. Halls got beat by Central last week and Clinton beat Central in 5, but Halls won over Clinton in 5. They may just be up and down like most of the average teams. Depends who shows up that particular night.
  18. Halls? I have not seen Webb, Farragut, or Maryville, but I would disagree with Halls being anywhere near the top 10. Oak Ridge would have to be ahead of them. Also, I have not seen Catholic since early in the season, so maybe they have improved. But Halls?
  19. I guess to be a part of this forum you must have been blessed enough to have bought a home in a school district that has a really good volleyball program. It does not matter rather you like or dis-like club ball. If volleyball was left up to the high school coaches alone, then Tennessee would be even further down the ladder then we already are. If you are lucky enough to be in a school that actually cares about volleyball instead of using it as a conditioning sport for basketball, then I am happy for you. But, if you are very serious about volleyball and happen to be in a rural area that is lucky to even have a program, then you might see what my shoes feel like a little. We could have moved into a better athletic school, but then my children have to move schools, start new friends, etc. I dont think that is right, to move just because of sports. That is why we have club ball. I would have loved to have my kids coached by great school coaches in middle school and high school and not had to use club. I would have loved to kept all that money and vacation time and used it for something else like college tuition, home improvements, new cars, or something else. But, my kids love to play and want to learn the sport to the fullest, and play it more than just 3 months a year. We are having a good time with high school. Our coach really tries and does a pretty good job for the amount of support we get. My only gripes have been playing seniors instead of the better players, but that is not much to gripe about. I have only reponded to posts that I thought I had something to say. I cant talk much about going out of town with our school team and competing with middle Tennessee teams, or finishing in the top of our district with the chances of going to regionals and state. Thats not going to happen. But its OK. I just like to see activity in the threads.
  20. I just dont understand how a high school coach can ask her team to give 100% if the coach isnt willing to as well. The players are trying their best to pass, set, and hit the ball. They are doing everything in their power to help their team and get a point. If the coach is not playing the ones that are the best players on the team (at that given time), then the coach is not giving 100% and letting the players down.
  21. As far as HV goes, I heard their jv has beat their varsity. If that is the case, then I would say the coaching is not up to par because they are not playing the best players. That is one thing I left off about my opinion of high school ball is the coach's desire to play upper classmen above better players. I totally understand school ball is about learning the sport, playing times, etc. I think that all plays a part in middle school, junior varsity, practice, play days, etc. But, varsity games should be only about winning - period. Even so there are approx. five clubs in the area, The two front runners seem to be K2 and Phoenix Rising. I have looked on the SRVA website and noticed that most if not all "1" teams from K2 were ranked higher than any of the PR teams. If you have a player that may be a little weak in the position she wants to play in, you are probably better off with a smaller club, because you have a better chance to talk to the coach and have her play the position she wants as opposed to a larger club that has a larger "pool" to pull from and may have her playing something else. This club may be perfect for us and not the best fit for another. Luckily, most tryouts happen in a way that you can go to more than one club and get a "feel" before committing.
  22. No I am not a Farragut parent. We like club ball because of there is much less drama, much better teams to play and better tournaments, and because everyone on the team is committed to volleyball instead of just playing it because it is in the season. Most of the time, from my experience, high school coaches are not as good as an average club coach. Schools like AC are the exception because of being able to take mostly non club players and teach them to beat teams that play volleyball 12 months a year. Is it worth the cost? Depends on your goals I guess. I do think that if your going to pay for club, then you might as well find the top club in your area. No reason to half-do-it.
