  1. Just for the record. Ken Sparks successor is already at Carson Newman. Carl Torbush was brought in as Assistant Head Coach last year. If you don't remember Torbush he is the former Head Coach at North Carolina and Louisiana Tech, he has also been Defensive Coordinator at Texas A&M, North Carolina, and Alabama. He was hand chosen by Sparks to be his successor.
  2. No, I mean the West announcer. I am sure of it because the main game I remember him annoying me at was a playoff game against West. I haven't been to Cocke County in a long time but back in the early 90's the guy that did it always said THE BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED after everything. That got old really quick. Someone once told me that a good PA announcer is one that doesn't get on your nerves throughout the game. That made alot of sense. Sometimes less is more.
  3. I am just glad we don't have to listen to the West PA announcer. I know home pa guys are supposed to be homers but that guy takes it a little too far.
  4. If you are just basing it on what they did in high school then I would have to say that Dustin Moore was the most dominant high school player I ever saw play.
  5. Some people need a map to see where East Tennessee starts and ends. I haven't been in a while and would assume it is not the same since there program is down. However, back in the late nineties Elizabethton had the best fan support and an incredible atmosphere. They would feel up there entire home side plus over half of the visitor side. It was down in a hole so the sound just echoed. Add the black and orange yard lines and it made for a great high school football atmosphere. Also always thought it was unique that Burley Stadium in Greeneville is surrounded by a cemetery and a funeral home. Must make visitors wonder if they will get out alive.
  6. Especially considering she deserves alot of the credit. I am in no way taking anything away from Coach Crumbley as she has done a great job. Just stating my opinion that Greeneville is darn lucky to have Coach Skeen on that staff.
  7. This is from tssaa.org. Adams had two blocks in a loss today so now stands at 288 blocks in her career. Most Blocked Shots in a Career 382 Sarah Woods Coalfield 1998-2001 289 Rikki Baughman Elizabethton 2002-2005 274 Nikki White Harding Academy 1994-1997 144 Aretha Fason Melrose 1985-1986
  8. Creekwood's 6'3'' post Samantha Adams has moved to 3rd all time in the TSSAA blocked shot record books and is 3 away from the 2nd positions. Congratulations to her.
  9. I was in no way trying to bash Jack Blair. I was merely trying to give credit to Coach Crumbley. When she first got here many people didn't even want to give her a chance. A season after losing Lyons and Manuel she takes them to the final four and that was remarkable. This season she loses Forney and Anderson and has the Lady Devils in the top 5. My post was in no way a slap at Blair, just a compliment to what Crumbley has accomplished in her short career at Greeneville.
  10. To jump in late with a comment and a question. First, While Whitney Carter is never going to win any skills competitions or WOW any college scouts, if you take her from her soph. year to now no girl on that team has improved more than Carter. Secondly, the question, speaking of being weak at the at the 3 spot. What happened to Lauren Anderson? She was the best athlete on the team, a above average shooter from 3, and the 1st or 2nd best defensive player. Don't know why she chose not to play her senior year but she is missed and that hole will show in the post season. As for the coaches, Greeneville has 2 of the best assistants around and I think Coach Crumbley is better than the Lady Devil faithful give her credit for. She took them further in her first year than Blair did in 30.
  11. I didn't realize any of the county schools still had athletic programs besides South Greene.
  12. It is definitely not impossible for him to wind up at ETSU. A couple of Examples. VMI (D 1) head coach Duggar Baucom spent several years as a high school coach, came to Tusculum College (D 2) in 2004 and led Tusculum to 2 straight conference titles and appearances in the NCAA D 2 tournament. Bruce Pearl was at Southern Indian (D 2) from 1992 to 2001, went to Milwaukee Wisconsin (small D1) in 01 and I think we know the rest of the story. Anything is possible and I would never underestimate George Pitts.
  13. You are talking about the South Atlantic Conference which includes Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee, Carson Newman in Jefferson City, TN, and next year will include Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, TN. Other members are Catawba College, Presbyterian College, Wingate University, Mars Hill College, Lenoir Rhyne College, and Newberry College. It would be difficult for King to join this conference because they do not have football and the SAC prides themselves in being a football conference. LMU was only permitted to join because they are supposed to add football in the near future. FYI: there is a huge difference between NAIA, which is the level that King competes at and NCAA Division II which is where they hope to move.
  14. From what I have read about Mooney, Greeneville may have trouble getting the ball into the front court.
  15. Its more like David and Goliath's whole flippin family.
  16. When you talk as much smack as the Powell fans did before the game, you have to eat the crow after the game.
  17. Yeah I am sure if you asked them if they wanted to go to the state tournament and play the best team in the state they would say"No thanks, I would rather get clobbered in substate and stay at home for the state tournament." No wonder they looked so bad last night. You have to strive to beat the best, to be the best. No, Greeneville does not have a very good chance of winning against Hamilton but the USA didn't have a good chance against Russia in Lake Placid either. It just takes one off night, and with the heart that the Greeneville team plays with anything can happen
  18. Game over. Greeneville absolutely dominates from start to finish. Greeneville has won 9 games in a row and 18 of their last 19. It was a team domination, not just Wiggins. Moore, Wiggins, and Anderson all in double figures. Greeneville scores 46 points in the first half and then stiffens the defense in the second half. Powell looked like a deer in head lights in the first half. It was obvious that Powell had not seen a defense like Greeneville's. Hats off to Bill Duncan. Greeneville had been to one state tournament in school history before he came and in his 6 years Greeneville has been to 3. In my humble opinion he is the best coach in the State. A little old 800 student school has beaten Science Hill, Dobyns Bennett, and Powell in succession, not bad for the little school from Greeneville.
  19. The point probably won't guard Mooney. In the substate game they put a cross country runner on the star point guard player for Farragut. But if Mooney is that good of a defender then you are right, Greeneville will be in trouble.
  20. The key to Greeneville winning or losing all depends on the point. When Greeneville's point guard faces pressure and turns the ball over the Lady Devils have no chance. Hopefully she will step up to the challange.
  21. I for one am glad to see South Greene make it this far. Not since the years of Benji Hawk have the Rebels made it this far. It will take a great effort for them to make it past Alcoa, but no matter what happens congratulations on a great run. PS there is nothing wrong with playing for Walter State. They have produced there fair share of D1 athletes. Just ask Alex Kragel, he went to Walter State and then went on to start in two NCAA tournaments for UNC Ashville
  22. I take you don't support the Lady Panthers. If you did you would know what a fine facility Greeneville has. The Powell girls just played there substate game against Morristown West at Hal Henard in Greeneville.
  23. as opposed to the cracker box at morristown west as opposed to the cracker box at morristown west. lady panthers have spent the last two christmas at the Greene County Bank Ladies' Classic, so they are no strangers to hal henard.
  24. Final Score Greeneville 47 Science Hill 44
  25. 11.4 seconds, Wiggins at the line to shoot 2 Greeneville 45 Science Hill 44
