  1. More truer words have never been spoken. I tried telling people years ago that we needed to figure out how to develop QBs and nobody wanted to hear it. Being one dimensional is fine when you have the horses but eventually the barn door gets left open and soon you wont have as many if any horses left...at that point you've got to change your game plan. Rankin isn't a bad coach. You don't win as many games as he does being a bad coach but he needs to take a lesson from the fella across the creek and start adjusting his coaching to players he has. In 16 years Ive seen GQ run at least 4 different base offenses while Rankin has stuck to the Power I. The Power I is just fine when you're playing inferior teams like Scott Co, McMinn Central and any other Northeast or Southeast Tn team but eventually you're going to run into teams like CAK, Fulton, and CPA who also have big boys and also have speed and if you just "stick to your guns" and want to duel it out....well, even John Wayne has lost duels before. As for people giving crap what I assume people are calling the goon squad (haven't been here for like 2 years so its new name to me) understand that *most* of these guys at least know football some have even played it. While I understand they dish out crap and they deserve to take it when Alcoa loses some of you people also need to remember how they're giving praise for a CPA win. Even in the CAK threads after defeats they were gracious in defeat. If you really want to hear terrible fans, come to an actual Alcoa home game.....then you can sit in the stands and here the midgets coach call Coach Rankin an idiot and call for a goal line formation on 3rd & 14.
  2. The State Championship game has been played in the 3rd week of the playoffs for the past few years. I think everyone deep down honestly knows that. The only down side is the loser doesnt get a silver ball. I look forward to seeing CAK again in a few weeks.
  3. Alcoa-35 CAK-20 CAK will move the ball on Alcoa *some*, and score points but not every time they touch the balls The problem for CAK is Alcoa has their slow, methodical running offense that will keep the ball out of CAKs hands. I expect a low scoring first half (7-3 type thing) with Alcoa's depth and size slowly wearing down CAK's defense as well as their running game.
  4. There's nothing you can do. Sadly I think the way you took what I was saying is "Alcoa is looking for a cheap way to a state title" when in reality what Im saying is Alcoa is way out of AA and AAA TSSAA league. Im not blaming Alcoa for it. They play the schedule TSSAA gives them and they try to pick up games here and there to fill out the schedule. You cant blame Alcoa for being too good or blame smaller schools for not having as much talent...Its just a danged if you do and danged if you dont thing is all. However, the blowout games are no different. If you're watching the Jets vs Packers and its 47-0 in the third...chances are you're gonna turn it off, mow the lawn, work around the house...why? because the game is boring. Anyone that can say they honestly can sit and watch a 50-6 or 42-0 ball game and be entertained and give the game their undivided attention the ENTIRE GAME...well props to you.
  5. Where did I say I wasnt pleased with the play calling? I think you're just trying to reach for an argument. It would be very very very hard for anyone to convince me or anyone else that Alcoa plays a hard schedule. Every year we start the season with a good game (Maryville) and as of late end the season with a good game (CAK) but you're a fool if you think everything in between is entertaining. We play cupcakes. Maybe they're good teams for 2A/3A TSSAA football teams but they're still very very rarely even remotely on the same playing field with Alcoa. Scores like 42-7, 56-0, 51-0, 48-0.....They're snoozefests. Maryville games, until they moved up to 6A, were pretty much the same way. At least now they're somewhat competitive but still Alcoa and Maryville are still miles a head of 98% of the state when it comes to tallent. After 25 some odd years of beating up on the likes of Rockwood, Harriman, Scott, Kingston and Chuckey Joke....It gets repetitive and boring. I go to support the team and the players on it and to spend time with my friends but outside of Maryville and CAK games, I honestly cant remember the last time I was actually entertained by an Alcoa regular season game.
  6. As long as it's before the whistle has blown then its fair game (unless there's something in TSSAA rule book that I dont know about). I can see being upset over a play though but to actually jump the fence and try to get on the field to either physically harm an official or a young adult shows a lot of irresponsibility. Not only that, if he would have gotten to the player, #57 would have probably suplexed him too...Gotta know where to pick your fights LOL Overall, it was another route by Alcoa. Another game honestly not worth my $6 but I dont mind supporting the program. I do enjoy watching Kingstons band though. Just wish they played better music.
  7. I need to start hanging out in Maryville threads more often. There's always talks of good old school rasslin in them. Thats what I like! Also, I dont understand why anyone still picks, well anybody, to beat Maryville. I heard the stat the other day that the last team not named Alcoa to beat Maryville in the regular season was Morristown West........in 2002!! If ever there's a lock on a team, just put all your chips on Maryville.
  8. I hear he's from Maryville. Ive never personally met the guy. Ive never heard anything but good things about him so its nothing personal I guess....Its just like nails on the chalkboard to me though. LOL
  9. Easily Maryville's....I love the field, I love the scoreboard, I love the tradition, I love the Coach but I cannot stand people that say Merry-Ville......Im not one to find myself "country" or "redneck" but I hate how he says it. Kills the whole atmosphere of a game there for me.
  10. I would strongly disagree. Coach Ironside (and even Coach Phelps) had teams just as good as the 2000 team but couldnt do squat with them. It was a case of the stars alligning. I would say Meadows brought Alcoa back into the spotlight of HS football but Reid's weight program really boosted them up. Reids discipline wasnt half as good as Rankin. That was the final piece missing and thats what Rankin brought in. It all pieced together after that.
  11. Its the same thing from every fan of every team in every state. It just depends on who you're around. Trust me the small section I always sit with never sits there and says "Next year is our year". It all depends on what kind of people you're around. Trust me.
  12. Reynolds is by far one of the most biased officials Ive ever seen. How he always gets to ref Alcoa-Maryville games.....Ill honestly never know. However, I dont think he or any of the other officials are going to be much of a factor here. Alcoa still looks pretty one dimensional to me with the Phillip Fulmer run the ball every down offense. I know that's the bread and butter of the team and thats fine when you're playing Scott Co, Loudon or Cumberland Gap....its not going to cut it with Maryville though. GQ is not only the best coach in the state but he's also one of the best business men. Maryville will make sure it stays fairly close (cause 21+ pt blow out on National TV doesnt help you) but will still play typical Maryville football, keep a comfortable lead of 10-14 pts and quiet some of the "haters" it gets from people throughout the state/nation that says "they dont play anyone."
  13. That GD blocked punt in the Semis will live with me forever. I should have two State Title rings!
