  1. Yes! Do not bring his kid or family into this. His kid has a great talent at kicker and is going to be very good. His whole famy is exceptional. They are always classy. Sometimes the game just passes you by and unfortunately he has shown no willingness to change!

More truer words have never been spoken. I tried telling people years ago that we needed to figure out how to develop QBs and nobody wanted to hear it. Being one dimensional is fine when you have the horses but eventually the barn door gets left open and soon you wont have as many if any horses left...at that point you've got to change your game plan. Rankin isn't a bad coach. You don't win as many games as he does being a bad coach but he needs to take a lesson from the fella across the creek and start adjusting his coaching to players he has. In 16 years Ive seen GQ run at least 4 different base offenses while Rankin has stuck to the Power I. The Power I is just fine when you're playing inferior teams like Scott Co, McMinn Central and any other Northeast or Southeast Tn team but eventually you're going to run into teams like CAK, Fulton, and CPA who also have big boys and also have speed and if you just "stick to your guns" and want to duel it out....well, even John Wayne has lost duels before.

As for people giving crap what I assume people are calling the goon squad (haven't been here for like 2 years so its new name to me) understand that *most* of these guys at least know football some have even played it. While I understand they dish out crap and they deserve to take it when Alcoa loses some of you people also need to remember how they're giving praise for a CPA win. Even in the CAK threads after defeats they were gracious in defeat. If you really want to hear terrible fans, come to an actual Alcoa home game.....then you can sit in the stands and here the midgets coach call Coach Rankin an idiot and call for a goal line formation on 3rd & 14.

  2. Alcoa-35

    CAK-20

CAK will move the ball on Alcoa *some*, and score points but not every time they touch the balls The problem for CAK is Alcoa has their slow, methodical running offense that will keep the ball out of CAKs hands. I expect a low scoring first half (7-3 type thing) with Alcoa's depth and size slowly wearing down CAK's defense as well as their running game.

  3. So what do you suggest we do about scheduling? When we can't get anyone to play us because larger schools don't want to play us and if I'm not mistaken the TSSAA puts us in our district we can only play the schedule that we are given. This is an old argument but until teams step up and play us I guess you will just be bored.

There's nothing you can do. Sadly I think the way you took what I was saying is "Alcoa is looking for a cheap way to a state title" when in reality what Im saying is Alcoa is way out of AA and AAA TSSAA league. Im not blaming Alcoa for it. They play the schedule TSSAA gives them and they try to pick up games here and there to fill out the schedule. You cant blame Alcoa for being too good or blame smaller schools for not having as much talent...Its just a danged if you do and danged if you dont thing is all. However, the blowout games are no different. If you're watching the Jets vs Packers and its 47-0 in the third...chances are you're gonna turn it off, mow the lawn, work around the house...why? because the game is boring. Anyone that can say they honestly can sit and watch a 50-6 or 42-0 ball game and be entertained and give the game their undivided attention the ENTIRE GAME...well props to you.

  4. SO last year compained about not passing, now they are passing a lil more and u still arent pleased....

Where did I say I wasnt pleased with the play calling? I think you're just trying to reach for an argument. It would be very very very hard for anyone to convince me or anyone else that Alcoa plays a hard schedule. Every year we start the season with a good game (Maryville) and as of late end the season with a good game (CAK) but you're a fool if you think everything in between is entertaining. We play cupcakes. Maybe they're good teams for 2A/3A TSSAA football teams but they're still very very rarely even remotely on the same playing field with Alcoa. Scores like 42-7, 56-0, 51-0, 48-0.....They're snoozefests. Maryville games, until they moved up to 6A, were pretty much the same way. At least now they're somewhat competitive but still Alcoa and Maryville are still miles a head of 98% of the state when it comes to tallent. After 25 some odd years of beating up on the likes of Rockwood, Harriman, Scott, Kingston and Chuckey Joke....It gets repetitive and boring. I go to support the team and the players on it and to spend time with my friends but outside of Maryville and CAK games, I honestly cant remember the last time I was actually entertained by an Alcoa regular season game.

  5. As long as it's before the whistle has blown then its fair game (unless there's something in TSSAA rule book that I dont know about). I can see being upset over a play though but to actually jump the fence and try to get on the field to either physically harm an official or a young adult shows a lot of irresponsibility. Not only that, if he would have gotten to the player, #57 would have probably suplexed him too...Gotta know where to pick your fights LOL

Overall, it was another route by Alcoa. Another game honestly not worth my $6 but I dont mind supporting the program. I do enjoy watching Kingstons band though. Just wish they played better music.

  6. I need to start hanging out in Maryville threads more often. There's always talks of good old school rasslin in them. Thats what I like! :)

Also, I dont understand why anyone still picks, well anybody, to beat Maryville. I heard the stat the other day that the last team not named Alcoa to beat Maryville in the regular season was Morristown West........in 2002!! If ever there's a lock on a team, just put all your chips on Maryville.

  7. Not to disparage anyone, but half the posters on this site could have won with the team Meadows had. IMO it was John Reed (sp) who set the table for Rankin by installing discipline and conditioning. Coach Rankin has done a terrific job since.

I would strongly disagree. Coach Ironside (and even Coach Phelps) had teams just as good as the 2000 team but couldnt do squat with them. It was a case of the stars alligning. I would say Meadows brought Alcoa back into the spotlight of HS football but Reid's weight program really boosted them up. Reids discipline wasnt half as good as Rankin. That was the final piece missing and thats what Rankin brought in. It all pieced together after that.

  8. Couldn't agree more. I couldn't tell you how many times I've heard the AHS faithful on the field after a loss to MHS talking about how next year is their year and how it doesn't mean anything to lose to such a much bigger school rather than just saying good game.

It is strange how little chatter their is from that bunch this year though...calm before the storm?

Its the same thing from every fan of every team in every state. It just depends on who you're around. Trust me the small section I always sit with never sits there and says "Next year is our year". It all depends on what kind of people you're around. Trust me.

  9. Reynolds is by far one of the most biased officials Ive ever seen. How he always gets to ref Alcoa-Maryville games.....Ill honestly never know. However, I dont think he or any of the other officials are going to be much of a factor here. Alcoa still looks pretty one dimensional to me with the Phillip Fulmer run the ball every down offense. I know that's the bread and butter of the team and thats fine when you're playing Scott Co, Loudon or Cumberland Gap....its not going to cut it with Maryville though. GQ is not only the best coach in the state but he's also one of the best business men. Maryville will make sure it stays fairly close (cause 21+ pt blow out on National TV doesnt help you) but will still play typical Maryville football, keep a comfortable lead of 10-14 pts and quiet some of the "haters" it gets from people throughout the state/nation that says "they dont play anyone."

  10. I am not talking about when you go to church, I am talking about putting football on a sunday and pushing back sunday services

so the football teams can be on ESPN. The powers that be should have said we will play on thursday or friday or saturday night or not at all ! Sunday is God's day !!

God has the Hopper. He'll be watching too. Its ok.

  11. Stefan is a great writer. Not sure why he's not at the Daily Times anymore but I probably have an idea. That whole place, newspaper and all has gone completely down the crapper since it was sold a year or so back. Its always good to open the daily misprint and read news from 3 days ago.

  12. Wow I didn't realize that CAK was such a powerhouse that no one wants to play them. I thought Alcoa was the big dog in that region. I thought CAK was a soccer school. I sure bet everyone in East TN just hates the fact that they may have to play CAK, you know since they have all those championships. The coach probably doesn't teach a class so he has plenty of time to call all those schools and beg them to play. Hey, here is an idea, why don't CAK and Grace play about three times a year. I don't hear they name mentioned a whole lot except to say that they got caught cheating. "Imagine that"

If you take Alcoa out of CAKs district over the past 10 years,I could easily see CAK ranked in the top 10 for most State titles. CAK has had one big problem in front of them over the past 5 years......Alcoa

  13. The Warrior defense will be fine. Yes there will be some voids to fill but I'm confident The Bradley's will have the defense ready for the upcoming season. The loss of a 3 year starting LB will hurt, but the return of an All-State linebacker will help. Remember the 2010 defense? They had 2 members that were 4 year starters and another 3 year starter, the 2011 Warrior defense just needed some time to develop. The high scoring offense will allow the needed time for the defensive unit to come together and the leaders to further develop.

The Warriors will easily repeat as State Champions.

I think they will repeat but anyone that things they'll just easily repeat hasnt watched much football.

  14. Now you know how R'dale felt, year after year after year.................. <_<

What that really means is he is out of the running for the BA job and NO out of state jobs where his wife wants to go. :roflol:

Enjoy ONE more year. BTW Coach Henry did not come from R'dale with him. He was acquired from another school. Coach Rankin does have the ability to put together one of the best staffs in the state. Only Coach Q at Maryville does it better.

Its not just Rankin, its like I said in a previous post. Alcoa seems to be a revolving door for Coaches. Every year we have rumors of a coach leaving. Its good to have coaches that are wanted but I miss the days of loyalty. Its one thing I respect the heck outta Quarles for. Everyone and their uncle has come calling for him and yet he stays at Maryville.

  15. On second thought, there may be one thing. I vote for Starz as the new PA guy. I am sure the one now is a super guy, but the whole Merryville thing is just way out of place. When you have had as much success as Murvil, you need someone with passion about it, a hometown voice...I don't know what part of Ohio or Michigan the current PA guy came from, but he don't talk like the rest of us.

    :thumb:

I absolutely HATE hearing him talk! It completely ruins a game for me. I understand you dont have to say Murvil but still pronounce Maryville correctly not, as you put it, Merry-Ville. Its a "rival" yet I like everything about Maryville except their dagum PA announcer. Its even worse that I can hear him from my porch too!

  16. Alcoa will continue to win and I'll give you some reasons why:

    Coach Nix

    Coach Gamble

    Coach Adams

    Coach Gosset

    Coach Harris

    Coach Rainer

So its safe to assume that Rankin goes then Coach Henry is going with him? I was hoping he would stay but Id imagine he would follow Rankin again.

  17. Well well well, I should have seen this one coming a mile away. Rankin loses some and his ego is needing some serious strokin once again by pulling the ole "Rankin was seen interviewing routine." Guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Actually he must be needing to score a nice lil Christmas bonus that he does not share with his assistants. We folk in Rutherford County saw this played out time and time again. They even had the nerve to call ME once and ask for $500.00 to keep him at Riverdale! The joke is that my roots are with OAKLAND and there is probably no one in the state that gets my goat worse than rankin. After he lost to OR in the semis that last yr, no one was willing to "give" to the fund.

When the recriting rug was getting ready to be pulled out from under him, he bailed. He said he wanted to go to a school that would be a challenge for him. Yet, he chooses a team like Alcoa? Yeah right. Let's see him win at Red Boiling Springs and I will salute the guy. I could go on and on but I feel my blood pressure starting to rise......

Let's face it, just about anyone would love to coach at Alcoa and they could win in an open zone environment just like he did.

Just for argument sake, its something Ive always thought of. If Alcoa is such a great job (which I believe it is) why is it in the past 15 years only one coach (Meadows) has not left for another high school? Sometimes it feels more like Alcoa is just a stepping stone then an elite coaching position. <_<
