  1. Just wanted everyone's opinion on how they think Covington will do in the state play-offs this year. I know they did much better this year in the regular season than in the years past. Does Marty Wheeler really have the Chargers back on the right track or will it be another one and done showing for them?
  2. Thank you... I was kinda wondering the same thing, Memphisprep1.
  3. I do not think SBEC stands a chance against Webb either, #5 is a baller and has the ability to completely take over a high school football game, I just hate it for the Trojans that he doesn't have a good supporting cast. I think ECS will be able to beat FRA, SG went to Nashville week 0 and beat em. Ha, I think the fact that you think Harding will "cruse all the way to cookville" is hilarious! Harding is a good football team but has little to no play-off experience, I see them making it no further than the semi's.
  4. Trojan Fan, I think you hit the nail in the head with the bracket. Usjbruin, your right as well, the top half is loaded. I think what is interesting about the whole thing is Davidson getting in @ 3-7! WOW! I think JCS has a chance to beat Davidson if they go to Nashville and play a good football game. Sounded like FACS almost pulled off the upset last night against SBEC. What happened? When is the TSSAA gonna come out with the real bracket? Let the play-offs and the smack talking begin, boys!
  5. I would like to think that they would give Major at least another year or so to get his stuff together. He really has not done that bad of a job since he's been there. But, if he is gonna be out I think first and foremost you have to say that Coach Heinz would be the front runner for that job. He might not want it, he might be happy being an assistant. The other guys you mentioned, Chubb, Vogel, and McFerran sound like good possibilities as well. Plenty of good coaches here in Memphis, not sure if the administration would go out of town in search for other coaches. However, I don't see Coach White leaving to go be Saint any time soon. This is interesting, something to keep our eyes on anyway!
  6. I think this game could go either way. Depending on who shows up. S.B.E.C. is fresh off the win against E.C.S. and S.G. is still mending there wounds that they suffered against U.S.J. last week. S.B.E.C.'s Josh Kimberland is one heck of a football player, it sounds like he put his team on his back last Friday night in an effort to beat E.C.S., and as everyone knows he was successful. He could be the difference maker this week as well for the Trojans. It seems like S.G. may have a few key players back this week in and if that is the case it may help the Gryphon's get back on the winning side of things. This should make for a very interesting high school football game! As for the play-off situation, this game should not have any negative consequences for either team win or lose. I think all it will do is more determine who is number one in the three way tie for first with E.C.S., Harding, and S.B.E.C. It does look as if U.S.J., E.C.S., WEBB, and either Harding or S.B.E.C. could all be in the upper bracket. If you don't love this game, something is wrong with you!
  7. warhawk, I think you hit the nail on the head with this quote. I think I huge reason as to why Webb and E.C.S. seem to be better than everyone else in this league is because they scheduled harder non-district games though out the year. Now, S.B.E.C. beat E.C.S. last week, (S.G. beat them last year) so you have to say that the competition is slowly but surly becoming more even each year. However, E.C.S. played C.B.H.S. and Briarcrest this season while Webb scheduled Maryville and Ensworth. Those are four teams that not a lot of teams in this state want to play. I think it hurts them during the course of the year from a win/loss standpoint but helps them tremendously when November rolls around. I am sad that season is almost over but I am pumped up about the playoffs being just around the corner! I cant wait to see what unfolds!
  8. This is one of those games that we all love about high school football! Two teams getting after it and looking for a win on a Friday night! U.S.J. does a lot of things well offensively, #40 is a breast and they will have to know where he is one the field at all times. Their QB, #12 is also a great athlete. He makes some impressive decisions and makes other teams look foolish out there at times. What I think this game is going to come down to is which team is going to stop the other team from doing what they do best. If U.S.J. can stop S.G.'s running attack with the occasional throw here and there... advantage U.S.J. If S.G. can slow down the air attack of U.S.J. and make them keep the ball on the ground... advantage S.G. Personally, I think if S.G. comes out, plays their game, and dictates the tempo of the football game, they will go back to Collierville with a "W" in their pocket. As mentioned earlier, this game means everything from a play-off standpoint. I am sure both coaching staffs are driving that into these kids minds as the week progresses. You gotta love high school football! May the best team win, see you in Jackson!
  9. I agree with you as well, Vols12345678. The Blance brothers are very good football player, and the fact they are in the same back field makes Webb a very scary football team. Im sure it doesn't sit well with SG that one is a junior and the other is only a sophomore. However, I have watched a number of Webbs games this year and the D line that they have faced are PARR at best. I think that if a d line is coached well and taught how to take on the pull and bounce everything to LBs and DEs then SG should be fine. I thins SG is a very well coached football team and I feel sure that they are going to have a well thought out game plan to take on those pulls and kick outs. I think if SG can keep the big play in Webbs pocket then they will have a much better chance at winning this game. They have to make Webb earn everything they get. On the other hand, Webb has has got to be prepared for the multiple sets and formations that SG is capable of lining up in on offense. I think that preparing for the wishbone alone is a tall task in itself, let alone worrying about everything else. I don't know, I am really ready to see what happens on Thursday. It is going to be a great high school football game. Maybe the best of all eight games!! THURSDAY CANT GET HERE FAST ENOUGH!!
  10. I think there will be a lot of factors that go into the game on Thursday. Does Webb have speed? Yes. Does SG have speed? Yes. I came through a very good football program in high school and one things that our coaches always harped on us is that speed kills! There is A LOT of truth to that, but you have to be well coached as well. I think both teams are well coached & and both teams have good dicipline. Webb has two major things going in there favor going into the game. 1. Webb does not have to spend the night in a hotel. I dont care what you say, there is something to be said about sleeping in your own bed. 2. Webb is bigger than SG. Up front, Webb has the potential to man handle the Gryphons O & D lines if they let them. Dont get me wrong, I am not doubting Webbs speed, however SG has speed too. I think everyone is getting really caught up on the Blance brothers. What happened to the the running back from FRA and the Williams kid from Davidson? They didnt have near the games that they nor the people in the state thought that they would have when they went to SG in the play-offs. I dont think that either one of thoes kids had rushing yards over 100 when they played the Gryphons. Who will win? I am not sure, I think it will be a well played game on both sides. Good luck to both teams, but I feel that it I HAVE to make a prediction. With that said... SG 21 Webb 17
  11. All of the above posts make valid points. I do not think SBEC is a very good football team and DA only ended up beating them by, I believe the score was 20-7. I think SBEC does have a good defense, but their offense is very poor. I look for DA to try to pound the ball with 40 and 2, if they control the clock and keep Blake Edwards and that St. George's offense off the field, this could be the end of the road for the Gryphons. Going back to the goal line stops... if I recall SG had two huge goal line stops last week against FRA. I heard the one that they had right before the half was the momentum that carried them into the end zone on the first drive of the second half. I would venture to say that SG defense is better than SBEC's, so with that said, I do not see 40 having 40 carries this week too, not to mention a 200+ yard game. They will have to spread the ball around and keep SG's on their toes. I think the whole reason why he had 40 carries last week was because that was the most rest he has had on that bum knee all season. St. George's is doing a decent job of spreading the ball around on offense and getting the ball to their playmakers. I agree with SmokeStack, with SG hosting this semi-final round, I think they will be hard to beat. Im gonna say SG wins by 10 and moves on to play the ECS v WEBB winner on Dec. 2 in Cookeville.
