I think its cute how everyone in the state counts out teams from West Tennessee when it comes to the football state finals. The last time a Middle Tennessee team was even in the state finals was Davidson vs Harding Academy. (a West Tennessee team) Davidson did win the game but they have been in a drought ever since. Ill give credit where credit is due, Webb is a very good football program and has been for a while. Im not knocking them because what they have done in our league over the past 7 years has been nothing short of amazing! But, every year everyone gets on this message board and talks about BGA, Webb, Davidson, (what have they done since Coach Wade went to Ensworth?), DCA, FRA, and FCS. BGA, DCA, and FCS moved "down" to our league and hasn't sniffed a ring. A West Tennessee team has been in the state finals every year since 2008, which, if I'm not mistaken was when this league as we know it today was formed. So keep talking up the Middle Tennessee teams... West Tennessee teams will keep beating em! Tonight's games should be good! The four #1's are still breathin and only two will play for some bling on Dec. 4 in Cookeville. Good luck to all!

Webb beats USJ and ECS. St. George's beats FCS and DCA. Therefore, Webb and St. George's will meet in Cookeville on Dec. 5 for the gold ball. How does everyone see this one playing out?

DCA beats BGA and St. George's beats FCS to move on to the TSSAA state semi-finals. They will play @ St. George's on Friday for a chance to play for the gold ball in Cookeville on Dec 5. How does everyone see this one playing out?

To my knowledge Long did not miss an offensive snap last night. FSC met an extremely motivated St. George's team and got beat. Commanders go home, Gryphons move on.

FCS travels to West Tennessee this weekend to play St. George's. Who do you all think will come out on top of this one when its all said and done?

So, you think FCS making to the next round is a given? You think they roll right past St. George's?

Aight, heres the deal for me. If there was a team from Memphis in the state championship, 9 times out of 10 I would want that team to win. Thats not just football either... thats basketball, baseball, wrestling, whatever. I want teams from the Memphis area to do well. However, in this case I can honestly say that it would do my soul good to see ECS lose in the state championship game this year. It chaps my tail to know that team cheated to get to where they are. I watched the game, and it looked as if Coach Walters talked his way into making the refs believe that HE was right and the REFS were wrong. And the result was that they took points off the board, a loss of down and the Gryphons missed a 35 yard field goal. Now, if that wouldn't have happened, would have SG won the game, I don't know? However, with all that being said, shame on the refs for being intimidated by a coach and making him talk them into or out of a call. I hope that "dawgtenn" is right about that crew getting suspended. Looked liked they shouldn't be working a game in week 4 of the regular season much less a semi-final game of the state play-offs. As for Walker Jones. The dude is a really good football player. Will he make a difference in the game, maybe. The jersey number that Webb needs to be worried about is #19. Brent Rooker, the QB. That guy is a baller! To bad he is going to Mississippi State to play baseball and not football. He a D1 athlete... not a doubt in my mind. He is a nightmare for defensive coaches. He can hurt you with his feet and his arm! If that guy gets outside of the pocket, hold your breath... something big is about to happen. If Webb can keep where they want him (that should be in the pocket) Webb wins, period! ECS's defense is par at best. Never thought I'd say this but, Good luck to Coach Meske (sp.) and the Webb Spartans. My prediction: Webb: 35 ECS: 10

I will say this (and this is from personal experience) the only thing, I think, that will stop Covington right now is Covington. They are their own worst enemy! Some of those kids on that football team have never even been out of west Tennessee. So, going to Cookeville and playing in a college football stadium and in front of that many people could be a big shock to some of them. Covington has speed, they have size, and they do the two most important things in football pretty darn well, which is blocking and tackling! I'v got purple & gold runnin' through my veins! Yeah, Harding has good speed on defense! I don't think Webb will be able to march right down the field on them simply because they are faster. However, I have to believe that Webb's O-Line knows who to block every play... there a good football team up front. Webb's discipline will more than likely overwhelm Harding. That's where Webb has the biggest advantage!

The Covington Chargers seems to be rolling this season. Their sitting at 11-0 right now and face Shefield Friday night in hopes to move on to the quarter finals. All of their playoff games are at home this year! They look like a strong football team, Coach Wheeler seems to have them on the right track! Could this be Covington's year to finally put a gold ball in the trophy case at CHS? Thoughts?

Webb should not have a problem with Harding. They have a physical back, a big OL, and somewhat of a salty defense; once Webb starts pounding the ball down the field with Blance and Kelly... Webb should roll. Webb wins and goes on to face USJ in the semi's. Webb - 47 Harding - 14

St. George's and University School of Jackson will face off once again. The last time these two teams met was in the 2011 Division 2-A state championship in Cookeville on Dec. 1. As you may remember SG came away with the victory in that meeting. However, when they met in the regular season it was a different story with USJ beating SG handily 31-7. On Oct. 12 these two team unbeaten teams will meet in Collierville and decide who the #1 team is in their district. SG has the week off and USJ is @ FACS this Thursday night. (A game they should win) What are you thoughts about these two unbeaten teams? Who do you think will come away 8-0 and who will finally add a number to the losers column?

I hope that you are not right about that but I guess every dog has his day. I know that Harding is losing a few, the three tech # 25 is graduating, the big receiver #9 is gone and the QB is gone as well. They do have some cats that are coming back though. I know #8 is only a JR this year, he should be very good for them next season. ECS will be good next year, but I don't think they will be what they have been in the past. Saying that they will win the State Championship is a stretch for them at this point. The word around Memphis is that their enrollment just isn't doing well. It will be interesting to see what pans out over there for Walters and the Eagles. SG is losing a really good group of seniors. Of course, the Williams kid, and the the big tackle that committed to Alabama. If I am not mistaken there is only one maybe two coming back from the o line. They will struggle without #16 in the defensive backfield, he seemed to drive that defense. I also think there losing a couple of key pass rushers as well. SBEC loses Kimberland and Greer. I think that really all you have to say about that group, it seemed at times that those two were the heartbeat of that football team. Coach Kimberland will have his hands full getting the Trojans back to the play-offs. Does anyone know if the Blance kid will go back to Webb next year?

So, now that the smoke is cleared and the fat lady has sang, what are some things that we look back on and say, "That was a turning point in the season for that team." or "That was a big win for this team."? Also, its never to early to start looking forward to next season. What are some teams that you feel like are gonna be not as good next year, or some teams that are getting a really good group of seniors back? Are all coaches in our division staying where they are? The St. George's Gryphons are State Champs! For all the people who thought they couldn't do it, for those of you who doubted them, disrespected them, or "de-friended" them at one point or another this season all I gotta say is I told you so!! pinnheadlarry, movinonup, usjbruin, I don't hear much talking anymore! Covington is back on the right track!! As a former player, it makes me feel really good to say that! I have taken a lot flack over the past few years about Covington falling off the deep end. I haven't even read all these posts and I don't know anything about Maplewood so I don't know what all has been said but I am gonna say this, Maplewood is about to be shocked. Traditionally, when the Chargers get in the playoffs and get rolling they don't take any prisoners. Nashville is about a taste of some good ole fashioned West Tennessee football! Good luck to Coach Wheeler, his staff and his team! GIVE EM' ALL THEY WANT!!

SG has seemed to have settled down a little and is back to playing good football. I think the game next week will be closer than everyone thinks. (I think all the kids at USJ are already getting sized for their rings.) USJ is having a special year, 40 and 15 are freakin' studs! However, SG is coming together at the right time. Its like John Calapari used to say, "It ain't how you play before the tournament starts, it's how you play when you get there that counts." I agree with "lovedafirewater", its gonna be Williams vs. Mayhall on Dec 1. Which ever one of those kids shows up with there game face on that day will more than likely come out on top. NINE DAYS CAN'T GET HERE FAST ENOUGH!

On December 1 SG and USJ will travel to Cookeville to battle for the DII-A crown. Who will win? What will the score be? I know that USJ put a whoopin' on the Gryphons earlier in the year, but SG's Williams seems to be clicking on all cylinders right now as he rush for right around 350 yards and five touchdowns vs Harding in the semi's. USJ's Mayhall also had five touchdowns vs Webb in the Semi's... It sounds like both teams have their hands full on defense. Let it all out DII fans, what do you think about this years state championship game?

First of all, great job USJ! I don't think anybody in this state (besides Mickey Marley and the Bruin faithful) thought that you were going to go to Knoxville and beat Webb like you did. I hope that I get a chance to get my hands on that film. Secondly, what about two West Tennessee team playing for the state finals this year? It has been a long time, but I think its OK for me to say that I think that the west side of the state had better football that the middle and east this year! LOL!! Simmer down fella's! I will have to admit, I think it will take more than Mayhall (sp?) to beat the Spartans, but USJ does have more than just him. They have a couple of big time possession receivers that can hurt you if your not careful and their QB is salty. Webb is gonna have their hands full this Friday night! Also, we all know that the seating is not ideal at Webb, I know its what they've got and we have to just roll with it but you would think after all the success that they have had someone would step up and say, "Hey, here's some money, go build some visitor bleachers." Gah-Lee, is it Friday yet?

USJ v Webb USJ is a very solid football team this year. I think that their QB is as good as the Overby kid was last year, I don't think he makes the decisions that Overby had to but that's what coaching is all about. I think that staff has done a great job and letting this kid do what he does best, and I think he throws the ball better than Overby did. Webb is a solid football team too. I have seen film on them and they have a ton of team speed, it is almost scary how fast they are. Jackson to Knoxville is a long bus ride but it is even a longer drive back when your coming home after a loss! If USJ can somehow slow down Webb on O and D, play lights out on special teams, take care of the football and stay away from stupid mistakes... they will have a chance! (I think this is going to be the case with any team that plays Webb.) It should be a great high school football game, I wish I could watch it... if it were in Jackson I would! I think Webb wins by 14. SG v Harding Harding is coming off an unimpressive win vs a very average 3-7 Davidson team in the second round of the play-offs. What is impressive is that they managed to score 63 points! They seem to be doing all the right things right now. SG traveled to DCA last week and upset the #1 seed in the quarter finals. Omar Williams rushed for (if the paper was right) 250 yards vs a very solid DCA defense. This game should be interesting from a standpoint that SG beat Harding in the regular season by 10 @ home. Now they have to go to Harding and beat them again. Now, everybody knows that it is hard to beat a team twice in one year, so with that said let me say this... I don't think that either team is the same team that they were at mid season. Both programs seemed to have settled into the respective schemes and are playing at a much higher level. Just from my personal opinion, Harding's coaching staff doesn't do a very good job of making good decisions when it counts the most, so I think they will keep Harding from doing what they need to do in order to be successful Friday night. SG wins by 10. The state championship with be a rematch from last year with SG and Webb making it to the finals. Once again, you gotta love high school football!

Gotta say, I am pulling for the Chargers! It has been a long time but I feel like they are back to where they once were ten or twelve years ago. I hope that they do well. From what I heard, the last these two teams met they couldn't stop each other on the ground. However, is the rumor is true with Williams back in a purple and gold uniform if could be T R O U B L E for the rebels! I really wish I could be at the game to see them play but I have a football game of my own to attend to. Good Luck to Coach Wheeler and the Chargers... shock the world, baby!!

If the right SG shows up vs DCA, I am going with SG... 21-7

SG has to first get past Ezell Harding. I think they go to SG. I think SG should be able to beat them. I have seen SG play a few times this year and they do have trouble moving the ball on occasion, but if they get in a steady balance of run/pass they can be explosive! They moved the ball really well against Harding earlier in the year. I think SG CAN beat DCA, depending on which team shows up.
