  1. Yes, I think they will, they always have...I agree their coverage this year was next to none. As I recall it's usually done after all the Basketball hoop-a-la. I'll keep watching for it.
  2. The Mid State Dream Team is selected from the combined divisions by the area coaches. (eg. Whitt is D-II) The Tennessean usually comes out with their all-star wrestling team and most likely they will have the team divisions separated. The special presentation to Whitt was in recognition of his spring and summer committment to SouthSide Wrestling Club. Bobby Davenport always presents a plaque to any of his club's wrestlers who recieve the honor of being selected to the Dream Team.
  3. In the past the issue regarding school singlets has been addressed by allowing the kids to wear that singlet inside out...so that no logo or school name shows. The reason being a liability issue ... not wanting to implicate their school in any manner while acting under an outside insurance. The wrestlers are wrestling for themselves and/or their club... not a SCHOOL team. Colors are irrelevant.
  4. Over 700 wrestlers competed in the 2005 TSSAA State Wrestling Tournament at McKenzie Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. After it was all said and done, only 28 (14 each in the public and private divisions) individual wrestlers could call themselves a champion in their respective weight divisions. MatMan predicted 11 of the 14 D-I CHAMPIONS in addition to recognizing 60 others who would ultimately take home medals. Of the total 84 medalists, he nailed 71 of them... Awesome job ~sld

Hamm has made some corrections to the Rankings posted today on http://www.tennwrestling.com/welcome. the page has been updated....sorry for the confusion. ~sld
  6. I got the same invitation... (what kind of wrestler am I ?) more info http://www.studentambassadors.org/
  7. Proud Daddy - David Scott remains a genuine hybrid cross between Jim Carey and Robin Williams...totally unconventional...totally unpredictable...a humongous heart...and a total nut. Clint - I know what he put in Mike Craft's bag ... not very nice... who else would even dream of doing that? (those were the days) seems everyone has gotten too serious any more. Once I unknowingly passed him on the road going to Chattanooga...he immediately had the driver of the van pass me... then and there... he mooned me in broad daylight, in the middle of I-24. As I sit here typing, I am still laughing ...what a guy.
  8. David Scott is a Metro/Nashville Firefighter and also graduated from Vandy a couple of years ago with his Masters in Nursing, continued his studies and is now a Nurse Practitioner in addition to his firefighting duties. I know he got big press a while back for saving a dog. He also had to jump from a burning building a few years ago... broke his foot ... his charred helmet hangs on his wall. Never heard why he took the leap, but ... it wasn't the dog story. When he's not jumping from windows, he works on a psych unit and you know he cheers up more folks than another ex-wrestler, Robin Williams in the movie 'Awakenings'. He remains his same funny self. delaWarr - I know I originated my post on the wrong thread, clicked the wrong button...but hey... thumb
  9. Clint you were always an outstanding ref. I heard that you quit (?) I always enjoyed our post tournament get togethers at Brentwood.
  10. Sure do remember Shawn O'Neal (the master of injury time outs) but what great wrestler...he played tag with the Johnson brothers from Chattanooga Central in every tournament he went too. They were a tough pair.
  11. About Eric - Duahhh.... now I read the part..."NEVER PLACED at state"...well, I am still very proud of him then and now. PS - He learned the 'fireman's carry' by wrestling bull calves for castration back on the farm... you had to be quick because either the calf was up and running...or the momma cow was on top of you. ~ Louise
  12. I'm not biased in anyway ( Ha,Ha) but I would have to include Eric Davis, Brentwood, '90,91,92 in this discussion. He placed all 3 yrs at state. He was ineligible his freshman year due to private to public transfer. He held the school record for pins for 2 years...and was known across the state for his expertly executed 'fireman'. His senior year he was injured during the championship quarters, but continue to wrestle against the advise of Coach West to a 4th place finish. He was the freestyle state champ for 4 years during this period and repeatedly beat Brentwood's Justin Zapp, his teammate who became Brentwood's 1st state champ in '92. With his exposure in freestyle Eric was recruited to wrestle for Clemson, but the program was dropped that same year. He then recieved a wrestling grant to Carson Newman where he competed for 5 semesters until the love of his life won his last match.
