  1. i understand your point, but i would say the top teams in the state year in and year out would argue that it is a team sport first and foremost. Bradley Central seems to be set-up as team first from the outside observer and the wrestlers are better for it from top to bottom of the line up. Individual titles are quite an accomplishment and due to relentless hard work, but team titles are the ultimate honor and group endeavor - for many since they could walk they have wrestled together to earn that team title. I have no issue with any kid missing state for any flagrant call that would lead to a DQ. They should know better at this level and show the discipline wrestling is based on at all times on and off the mat. not much on 2nd chances for dirty wrestlers. That is a reason many kids dont understand right from wrong anymore - no consequences for their actions. Just my opinion.
  2. Always tough figuring out who will make the finals, but i will take a shot without seeing some schools wrestle and not knowing the health staus of all. This is just my opinion based on what i have seen so no disrespect for any solid wrestlers i may have left off. 103 - Boatman (GRV) vs. Hudgens (SH) 112 - Armstrong (SS)vs. Baker (S.Doyle) 119 - Schurlknight (SH) vs. Madison (S.Doyle) 125 - Hall (SEY) vs. Schurlknight (SH) 130 - Vaquero (DC) vs. Knowles (SH) 135 - Tapia (SH) vs. O'Brien (DB) 140 - Williams (SEY) vs. McKinney (SH) 145 - Ruggiero (GRV) vs. Churchman (JC) 152 - Snyder (SH) vs. Dierden (S.Doyle) 160 - Johnson (JC) vs. Carlson (GRV) or Brimmer(MW) 171 - Stull (SH) vs. Bradley (JC) or Gaskins (TN) 189 - Vaughn (SH) vs. Baker (HV) 215 - Carlson (JC) vs. Bryant (DC) 285 - Hayworth (DB) vs. Thayer (Boone) or Malone (GRV) No matter who is in the finals it should be a great tournament.

  5. i think Luke Hall (Seymour)is probably in the best position of any Region 1 wrestler at state. He has a good opportunity to win the whole thing. As far as clear cut Region 1 champs - 103 Jon Boatman (Greeneville) and Hall are the clear cut favorites in their weight classes based on region competition levels and their skill level. 103 is not very deep in Region 1 this year not to take anything away from Boatman. He is a freshman will get better and better. For the others - 112 Armstrong (SS), 119 Schurlknight (SH), 130 Knowles (SH), 135 Tapia (SH), 140 Williams (SEY), 145 Churchman (Jeff) or Rugerro (GHS), 152 Snyder (SH), 160 Johnson (Jeff)* could be in the clear favorite list on any given day just in a tougher weight class, 171 Stull (SH), 189 Vaughn (SH), 215 could be Carlson (jeff) or Bryant (DC), 285 too tough to call but Thayer is having a good year for Boone. How everyone does in state will come down to how they are wrestling at the time and the seeding matchups.

  7. A good tournament Saturday in the snow. Greenback, Tuscola, NC, and VA High missed, but still some really good matches and teams. Ruggiero (GRV) and Churchman (JC) put on a show in the 145 lb championship. Many favorites won including 125 lb Luke Hall (SEY) and 215 lb Tucker Carlson (JC). Some of the lighter weight classes didnt offer stiff competition from top to bottom, but 103 lb Boatman (GRV), 112 lb Sheikh (HIX), and 130 lb Teaster (HER) looked a step above the competition in their weight classes. The 189 lb Crowder (HIX) looked good also winning 14-6. Top teams: 1. Hixson 195 2. Jeff Co. 189 3. Heritage 171 4. Greeneville 137.5 5. Seymour 127
  8. Anyone made a mid-season favorite list for the region 1 individual championships? There are several good wrestlers around from what i have seen. Here are some that have to have a good shot at being region 1 champions (dont remember some names): 103 - Boatman (Greeneville) 112 - Sevier Co. 112 119 - Sullivan South 119 (think he was 119) 125 - Hall (Seymour) and Schurlknight (Science Hill) 130 - Bishop (Sullivan East) and Knowles (Science Hill) 135 - Tapia (Science Hill) and O'Bien (Dobyns Bennett) 140 - Williams (Seymour) 145 - not sure yet 152 - Johnson (Jeff Co.) and Snyder (Science Hill) 160 - Stull (Science Hill), Carlson (Greeneville), and Brimer (Mtown West) 171 - Fullbright (Science Hill) 189 - Vaughn (Science Hill) 215 - Carlson (Jeff Co.) and Bryant (David Crockett) 285 - Hayworth (Dobyns Bennett)
  9. Does Greeneville have any wrestlers that can win their tournament? Which weight classes?
  10. Football players will help for sure, especially in the upper weights. Greeneville will be strong in several weight classes for the region. Greeneville should be tough @ 140 and 160 with veterans there. the 103 kid is a freshman but solid. 215 and 285 may be better than expected. Not sure they are stacked enough from top to bottom to compete outside region 1. Their core is very young though and Greeneville should be more in the mix over the next few years.
