  1. Of course you are in. We will meet Friday before the tourney starts and submit our brackets. You and King can bring your wager ideas.
  2. We must have seen two different versions, but i will say i dont think i saw him have to go past the mid point of any match. Guess I should have better explained - what i saw was a kid on offense the whole time and he showed some explosion on shots when i saw him. If he can't got 3 solid periods Griffen will wear him down. May need top re-think that pick. Wasn't sold on it from the start. We can do that for sure. I will have mine when i see you up there Friday evening. Hopefully no one tears down any brackets this year like they did at state last year. That always makes me laugh.
  3. Yeah now that the brackets are out it does changes things in some cases. Hate that Atlas and Bryan got put on the same side @ 106, but thats why matches matter thru the season - seeding. 113 has a deep group with 5 returning qualifiers, 2 former Region 1 champs, and Boatman, Whitaker, and Hudgins have all been ranked thru the season by Bray / TWF only lists one as ranked. 120 doesn't have flash but it sure has depth and some tough kids. Should be a fun weight class to watch. The 126 winner of the Vance / Storm match may not feel like a win with Armstrong being next in the finals. 132 should have a good match between Gobble and Taylor. Keep an eye on Wallen - he could place here. 138 matches between Hodge amd Carlson and Jaynes and Jesse should be fun to watch. If Bagley/Cline and Callahan/Frye are the semi matches then they should not disappoint. Watch out for Deaton Myers though - bracket buster possibly. Porter and Broyles could really go either way. I saw Porter more than Broyles and was impressed with his motor. I dont see anyone beating Palmer though. 160 is a class where the top 4 seeds should all finish top 4 for sure. Bond and Jones could be a pretty good match up and could go either way. Marshall Brown will be tough to beat at 170. Looked really good the 2nd half of the season. Same case at 182 as 170 - Brailan Brown should dominate. TWF ranks 3 guys at 195 / Bray lists 2 - that is still really good for a Region 1 weight class. Should be fun to see the Bunson / Shropshire semi match. 220 should be Hayes's weight class to own, but if Campbell can get to the finals and keep it close, watch out. 285 is another deep group of fairly decent wrestlers. Dont know how it will pan out, but Cuddebeck/Lawson in the quarters should be interesting. Ruth and Ariaza are two athletic big men that could do well also. Championship matches 106 - Fagundes (GR) vs. Poore (SEY) 113 - Boatman (GR) vs. Whitaker (SE) 120 - Hurley (TN) vs. Dammann (SH) 126 - Armstrong (SS) vs. Vance (GR) 132 - Vaughn vs. Taylor (TN) 138 - Stooksbury (SEY) vs. Carlson (GR) 145 - Bagley (SH) vs.Callahan (EL) 152 - Begley (DB) vs. Porter (ME) 160 - Buck (EL) vs. Bond (GR) 170 - Brown (GR) vs. Caldwell (DB) 182 - Brown (JC) vs. Goins (SEV) 195 - Begley (DB) vs. Brunson (ME) 220 - Hayes (SH) vs. Campbell (DB) 285 - Cannon (SEY) vs. Lawson (VOL) 3rd/4th matches 106 - Bynum (DC) vs. Brockwell (SS) 113 - Hudgins (SH) vs. Kerlin (SD) 120 - Morris (HV) vs. Chase (SE) 126 - Williams (ME) vs. Lane (SH) 132 - Gobble (SS) vs. Shannon (JC) 138 - Evon (JC) vs. Hodge (SE) 145 - Frye (DB) vs. Cline (MW) 152 - Bryles (MW) vs. Bowman (GR) 160 - Jones (TN) vs. Hamilton (SEY) 170 - Elliot (SE) vs. Spangler (TN) 182 - Alston (SE) vs. Hardin (SH) 195 - Shropshire (DBNE) vs. Barnes (SEV) 220 - Hayde (JC) vs. Baldwin (SEY) 285 - Araiza (SEV) vs. Ruth (DB)
  4. Undisputed state A/AA champs defeating #2,#3, and #4 finishers. Congrats Greeneville!
  5. My two cent prediction: Round 1: Pigeon Forge over MLK Eagleview over Stone Memorial East Ridge over Sycamore Hixson over Greeneville Consolation Round 1: Stone Memorial over MLK Greeneville over Sycamore Championship Semis: Pigeon Forge over Eagleview Hixson over East Ridge Consolation Semis: East Ridge over Stone Memorial Greeneville over Eagleview Championship Finals: Pigeon Forge over Hixson Consolation Finals: Greeneville over East Ridge (should be extremely tight and could go either way) 1. Pigeon Forge 2. Hixson 3. Greeneville 4. East Ridge
  6. Ok newcoach where is this list you promised?
  7. If he can beat Brockwell then he could be there in the finals. I dont see him beating Fagudes if they are on the same side, but you never know. 106 is a decent weight this year as far as depth. Not many state contenders, but a deep group of pretty good wrestlers. The top 4 will be interesting.
  8. Good hard fought match on both sides and the excitement in the gym was great. Good crowd that even brought some outsiders in to watch these two teams battle it out to the last match. Greeneville looked focused and finally healthy at all weights. Hopefully that can carry over to Franklin. I have to agree with King that Greeneville, if they wrestle like they did last night, could have a decent showing at state. We will see how it plays out and maybe Coach Shelton can conjure up some ninjas for my boy Humor - that was a good one btw.
  9. No arguments there. Storm can hold his own and I wouldn't describe as fat. 120 is really a wide open weight class. Saw Damman from the Hill at 120 tonight so throw him into a deep weight class.
  10. I will be there - a must see. I agree on the margin. Buzz19 no one really cares that much. No sleep lost over that for sure.
  11. I don't think he changes the top 2 of Begley and Broyles. I believe everyone is chasing those 2, but anyone can get caught.
  12. Sorry I didnt know Porter had gone to 152, but really your point is that I dont have Jones and Spangler in there isn't it? I will take Bond instead of Porter and Bagley still. I really think both classes are thin and Jones and Spangler could be there, but just because you push them constantly I will stay opposite for kicks. I don't know if I will sleep tonight with you thinking I'm half right. It is an opinion, get over it and make your own list if you want to voice your choices.
  13. I will give what i think will be a finals list for Region 1. Scores i will hold off on: 106 - Brockwell (SS) vs. Fagundes (GR) 113 - Boatman (GR) vs. Whitaker (SE) #2 vs #4 in the state per Bray's rankings 120 - Williams (ME) vs. Hurley (TN) should be a tight match 126 - Armstrong (SS) vs. Smith (SE) 132 - Vaughn (SH) vs. Taylor (TN) 138 - Stookesbury (SEY) vs. Cline (MW) 145 - Bagley (SH) vs. Callahan (EL) 152 - Begley (DB) vs. Broyles (MW) good match same result 160 - Buck (EL) vs. Porter (ME) 170 - Brown (GR) vs. Bagley (SH) could be a couple others there 182 - Brown (JC) vs. Elliot (SE) 195 - Begley (DB) vs. Shropshire (Boone) #2 vs #4 in the state per Bray's rankings / watch Brunson (ME) though 220 - Hayes (SH) vs. Allen (Sevier) 285 - Cannon (SEY) vs. Araiza (Sevier)
  14. If Smith is back at Sullivan East, he is probably the most likely to be in the finals or maybe Morris from Happy Valley. Dont see much depth at 126 this year and i don't think Andrew will have much trouble in Region 1.
  15. Depends on to what extent you want to consider true offseason work. Many wrestle a couple folkstyle tournaments after the season. A few will wrestle freestyle and greco tournaments. After that there are maybe a couple that wrestle up until the season in out of state tournaments. ETWA and Team Tornado provide many opportunities for kids to go wrestle big tournaments against great competition. ETWA had kids go to OH Tournament of Champions, Super 32, and state and Southeast Regional Freestyle/Greco. Team Tornado had teams in Dixie Duals and Militia Duals and then also had kids in freestyle/ greco state and regional tournaments. Not enough local kids take advantage of these opportunities.
  16. He has been named on the last page by me, but honestly he is 18-11 and got pinned by Storm Williams. He has beaten Lane (Hill) and Cutshall (Boone) but that's about it.
  17. Agreed. With Lane (SH), Williams (ME), Cutshall (Boone), Icenhour (SE), Hurley (TN), Davis (DB), amd Hinshaw (Sey) you can about throw them all in a hat and anyone could win on a given day. I will give the edge to Storm Williams if he is at 120. Hurley and Lane are right there also IMO.
  18. Only will make them better. There was a 106 placer last year that was a 95 something qualifier as a freshman. You have to take your lumps to get to the top. If you feel the kid can't handle it then that is a parents responsibility.
  19. The idea is excellent, but the planning/funding and participation is where I fear it would fail. 1. Where would this grand tournament be held? Obviously the threads regarding the Ag Center versus UTC would resurface. 2. And aren't we all pretty confident TSSAA won't be in favor of this? They want the money from the masses, not the few. And if they felt it was best they would have already done it. It is about money. 3. With 1 and 2 said who will run the tournament and pay for the tournament location? I would assume there are very free neutral site locations. Then whoever may decide to run it has the agony of dealing with the planning, working with staff and refs and some fan who always has something to complain about. Plus the insurance may be a little steep unless it is run as an NCHSA or AAU type tournament, but I'm not so sure those can be run as anything less than open tournaments. 4. Will the placers that qualify for this even take advantage of the opportunity? Mom and Dad will hae just spent around $1000 to $2000 for one trip to Franklin (if you are out of town and could be as high or low as your prefer and depend on family size). Can they afford another trip across the state? I would fear the participation interest especially from the lower placing wrestlers may not be as high as some think and if such a grand tourney was created surely we want full brackets. Also I believe some kids just wont be interested for whatever reason or we would see more TN wrestlers at the national tournaments after the season. 5. This is an unproven risky investment of money being new - who is going to step up and fund it? While i will not say it couldnt make money, i do believe it is a risk and would never be as profitable as the TSSAA tournament (remember the masses). It is a good dream, but until someone or group with the funds, plan, and drive try to make it a reality I will not be holding my breath.

  21. Bond wrestled at 160 yesterday at the GIT and placed 4th I think. Marshall Brown wrestled at 170 and took first and was upper weight MOW. Boatman won 113 and Armstrong won 126 and lower weight MOW.
  22. Greeneville, Science Hill, and TN High are all I have heard of that will be at Alcoa Duals.
  23. Good I'd hate to see that about a state placer. Understand.
  24. No Buzz 19 did it earlier and I'm no Boone guy but I just feel Shropshire deserves more respect than that.
