  1. I would agree with you SB1976 on your top top three choices for nomination. Not in that order but certainly agree with the list. BBfan1, thats good information and statistical data. No doubt he's a solid player. Will be curious where he decides to play college ball. All three would make sense for the nomination but in my opinion Marberry is hands down the better choice for the award. Just an opinion mind you. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 2. Players shoot good some nights and some even have streaks that span several games. When it comes to this award it's the guy who effects the game both on offense and defense, day in and day out. A kid who makes the other kids around him better. PPG doesn't even come close to telling the whole story. I'd argue that a D1 college coach recruits the entire package and not a kid who has an outside shot. I'd also argue that shooting percentage sometimes outweighs PPG. Unfortunately, fans don't have access to the percentages and can't see who shoots 15% and who shoots 60%. I wanna know if he stayed in the game for the fourth Q and put up double digits against an opponents JV squad. Did he shut down an opponents main players or was he hanging around cherry picking shots. Is he good enough to play in college and if so, are they hanging around making offers? Does he even want to go to the next level. Does he love the game? These are just my opinions and not pointed at any particular player. I like Marberry because he demonstrates many if not all of the qualities it takes to succeed at the next level and his past performances have indeed made the players around him better. 3. Burton Sampson- Knox Webb, Best team leader by far. Makes plays happen. Smart player. Devin Sibley, Karns, Will make an opposing coach weep. Big potential. Brock Rowan, Stone Memorial, Classic shooter. Outside guy who can get the shot off in time. Alex Fountain, Wartburg, Long and can play way above the rim. Put anyone else you want with these four and you have a winning team.
  4. I watched part of that game too and I'm not sure it would've mattered in the end if all their players were there or not. FRA played really, really strong. Rob Marberry was, well big and Chance Bouldin too...Then there's an army behind them. Ensworth has the Fleming boy and he's solid but he couldn't carry them. Having another body on the court may have lessened the spread but thats about all. Corn or not they don't have the depth to counter FRA. Marberry was like 10 for 11 or something like that--played half the game--sat down when they were up 40. I may agree with you that the teams in the middle and east need to step it up. I'd say that after the Christmas tournaments they better be in shape or not far from it. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 5. Well this is going to be down right exciting! I wish I a better understanding of the west teams so I could make a prediction or two. I know DCA is the hot ticket right now in the east but ECS is no lay-down. If ECS can successfully utilize their post player(s) while neutralizing DCA's guard play...they win. If not...time to kick back and watch. USN has their point position back in play and the wing shooters are strong as ajax. Someone fill in the blanks on St Georges please.. FRA pulled out a close one over Harding during the holidays. One or two I believe. Lets see who learned from that experience and who wants it more. As i recall the guard play from FRA won the game. Lausanne is the hot ticket out west and I hope someone responds with a good scouting reports for us fans. Knox Webb can slow the game to an absolute crawl as they demonstrated twice this year. Lets see if Lausanne has an answer for that. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 6. Allow me a word or two. First let me say the refs I know on a personal level are STAND UP gents and I trust them to call the game as they see it, fairly. Not perfect but fairly and as they see it. I don't always like the calls but for the most part they're better than I could do on any given night. Now...Refs can absolutely effect the outcome of a game to the tune of 20 points. I've personally seen it. I've personally seen "adult vendettas" taken to the Bball court from a ref who has a business relationship with a parent. I've personally heard a ref tell a player he'll T him up before the game is over. I've personally seen a ref walk across the court, stop a game, confer with the other refs and overturn a call that ultimately swayed the game. I absolutely know for a FACT there are some refs that the other refs can't stand working with because they know the game will be full of "marginal"?? calls. Again, better than I could ever to hope to do, but I'm not a ref paid to be fair and unbiased. I suppose it's like any line of work with respect to personalities, skill sets, tenure and ethics. You can seek out the best in people and still be let down from time to time. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). To say or imply that ref's cannot sway a game 20 points is just plain false.

    AAU

Mislead people? Obviously you didn't or couldn't read my post. I'll try again and this time I'll try to use smaller words just for you. First, I never once mention any team at all. I merely stated that a parent should look hard at the parents of ANY team/people he was going to expose his child to and also to avoid people that would otherwise negatively impact his child's experience. (that means bad people, baller) Second, Well, there is no second. I can spell it out but I can't understand it for you. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). AAU

Hi Gotcha, It's not that hard to find an AAU team around middle TN. I will suggest you give a little more info and maybe someone on this board can help you. Also, I'm going to assume your player is younger so don't take offense to my suggestions if you're a veteran at this. 1. Age...Specify the age of your player. 2. Skill set...Specify if your player can compete at a high level with a lot of travel or just want to have tons of fun playing locally. Don't be discouraged if you have to look at several teams before finding the right "fit". LOOK HARD at the parents on the team. The "involvement" from the stands can really make for a long season for your player if it's negative in nature. Parents that encourage from the stands can make it the best time of his/her life and keep the game in perspective for a young mind. Avoid postings like the one above bashing other teams. Some people have absolutely nothing better to do than drag you (and all who read their spew) down to their level. Typically it's a cut player parent or ones that have a problem with coaches for whatever reason. Sometimes the lack of grammatical skills would indicate they're a child trying to stir up trouble...Again, like the above posting. In all cases, avoid them and you're better off! Hope you find the team you're looking for and hope to see positive input from you here in the future. Take care, BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 9. I hear ya WarEagle on the Skal kid. I'll differ with you on your picks due to this. An opposing coach will spend more time worrying about Marberry than Nash. I respect your opinion though. 10. I also agree Hooper. Though it seems Glover is a shoe for this award and deserves it, Marberry is a talent that can't be overlooked. Marberry is a beast! If we could put them head to head on the court I'm not so sure Glover would come out on top. Just MHO. But four years of play and a winning record would justify Glover getting the award for sure. Who knows...maybe we'll see 'em go toe to toe soon and let the stats talk. Marberry brings a passion to the court, even as a sophomore, that we love to see. Very coachable from what has been said demonstrating leadership qualities not often seen at such a young age. Someone else said it earlier,,,,Marberry will win this down the road. I couldn't agree more. He Should. As far as Hodge goes....I don't see it. All the chatter has all but eliminated him. Again, MHO. Welch? What a standup kid that needs to be talked about. He stepped up when his teammate dropped the ball. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 11. "Great" win for DCA over FRA. DCA played very well start to finish. Guard play was good and they shot the lights out from outside. 8 three pointers i think. Boom! Fans were good and it underscores the sportsmanship of DII-A Middle. Exciting game to the very end!! Way to go DCA! BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 12. Are you sure about this?? Not questioning you but I find it hard (amazing in fact) to believe this is the case. I won't repeat what I heard the original issue was but I can't imagine USN would turn a blind eye to it...No way, No how. The school has some exposure in this as well. The old saying is true that it's not what you did or didn't do, it's what you should have done. Same goes for TSSAA. I hope the young man finds some help. In the meantime it'll be interesting to see what happens on the court. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 13. Great topic Showcase. Although I'm not tired of hearing about Lindsey and Marberry, I do agree there are some serious players in the mix for 2014. Andy Shumpert is the real deal. I may be mistaken but in that game he had multiple 3's AND put it on Poythress. I've watched this boy for years and he's solid as a rock. Agree too with Jake Alsmiller. Another great kid with huge potential. Absolutely a top five'r in my book. He's also got the marketing machine of Maddux behind him as does Lindsey. This can't hurt. Be very interesting to see where he plays summer ball. This young man needs to be seen! BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 14. I don't see how they could bring him back. I think it may be out of the schools control at this point. It's unfortunate that a kid with a bright future gets caught up in the wrong stuff. We adults should use this as an opportunity to talk with and advise the kids we come in contact with. One bad decision...One wrong turn...and poof it's over!! USN will figure it out and backfill the spot. Smart coach and smart kids left on the team. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 16. Austin Gee is going ham out there! I couldn't be happier for the young man. Solid player and solid individual!! BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 17. Well, Dgeeman it was great idea anyway.. I'll be waiting for POSITIVE updates throughout the year from you and will do my very best to deliver some as well. Not sure, but you probably have the ability to delete posts from these morons on a thread you started. Idiots like them need to learn to read the topic before spouting off at the mouth. And what the heck is an ensworth guy posting on DII-A thread for anyway? Morons! BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 18. Man i couldn't agree more! i look forward to watching these boys grow into better Bball players and more importantly better men. Men that we can be proud to say "we knew them when..." I'll comment on the boys i know on the CPA list above that are in DII-A. OK, so Josh Erickson is just showin off! I watched him play a game this fall and wondered what he was on-and where I could get some. Kid's gonna be hard to control if he get in a zone. Austin Gee is a playmaker,,plain and simplejack simple!!. I like the maturity he brings to the court even as a sophomore. he'll get lose and then its game on! Great kid, Great family values that show through. My prediction is he'll average north of 16 per game with double digit assists all the while keeping his squad focused. Can you say triple threat? Rob Marberry, Kessler Bell, Chance Bouldin. When's the last time we got to watch three kids all over 6'4" on the same team and all with an above average Bball IQ? Kess Bell will get his, bet dat! get him the ball on the low end and watch him work. Work Kess work. Chance Bouldin is the kid that scares the wee wee out of an opposing coach. You just don't know how to play against him. Big or small, he can posterize an opponent. 15 year old Sophomore Big Rob Marberry will have a few eyes on him this year. Word on the street is he's already being courted pretty hard. Kid just goes all ham down low with thunderous dunks and mean blocks. At 6'7" and a scrapper, he continues to grow into what we want to watch on Saturday. BoyHowdy will remain an AC (anonymous coward). 19. After so many dishes served every way imaginable, I've found that crow is an acquired taste and fits right in with my diet during basketball season. Guys I cant wait to see these boys play! The West shows up today to two very hungry teams. DCA was STRONG in K'ville and I expect them to be as strong today. FRA is just as strong and they're hungry for the win. dgeeman said it best...all four teams from the M/E are basically equally matched and can win at any given time. I suspect the west is the same. We'll see.. The last few weeks I've had a "crow deficiency" so i'm going to go out and say DCA wins big and FRA wins bigger! DCA by 10 and FRA by 18 or more. Open table at Le Restaurant de Corbeau gents but you can't sit down without making a prediction!!!
  20. WOW!! What a fun tournament! Congrats to FRA for the win as they proved they can win big games. This tournament came down to depth and strength. FRA happens to have the strongest bench presently and it showed big time. Substitutions had little effect on the drive. Freshmen post players capable of scoring AND pushing seniors around in the paint is a luxury other teams don't have. A sophomore class with height, hops, and double digit scoring ability? Whaa? Juniors and seniors with an "in your face" drive to win, win, win. Popping 3's and driving the lane all weekend. Their senior class is close knit group and this year is their year! Great coaching too! A shout out to all four teams. The weekend showed me that ALL of these four teams are capable of winning at any given time against the others and that we shouldn't take anything for granted in this division. Every single game down to the wire! It's fun to see these boys (all teams) grow, on and off the court. They're providing a source of entertainment to us old folks that they'll not appreciate until they're in the bleachers and our grandkids are on the court.
  21. Great post! i'd like to add my 2 cents. Starting from the bottom up if I may: Freshmen Totally agree with Rob Marberry, FRA. Monster D with a sweet shot @ 15ft. Needs to be more aggressive going to the rack. Higher Bball IQ than most seniors. Really gave Big Ben (terrific young man) fits at MJCA. My pick for best freshman, period. C. Kennedy, DCA, strong, strong shooter. Sophomores Kessler Bell, again, agree on that one too. Big point average, auto-mode, but needs stickier hands down low, imho. Austin Gee, Ezell, Yes VERY exciting indeed. Plays big in big games. Can't wait to see him start draining 3pointers on a more regular basis but he's got time to work on that. Chance Boudin, fra, long reach and goes hard in the paint. Fluid. Juniors Nilan Hodge, usn,. He's a Machine. Zack Jenkins, yo. Ezell. If his feet get set outside, my moneys on him! Kyle Kennedy, DCA, is quick and intuitive. Bud Cannon, fra. Crazy Hops and high IQ for the game. Scores big in big games. Cham Cham, webb. Just a great athlete and fun to watch. Ben Wankel, MJCA, Man he's big! Seems very fundamental. Makes free throws as good as any big guy out there. Gets a little frustrated and it shows at times but gets his job done. Seniors MIles davis, webb. Big scorer and aside from Cham Cham really about all they have from a points perspective. He fights to last second of the game. Connor Flippin Maitland, He really wants to win. Will mix it up with anyone at any time. Goes very hard in the paint. Trey Brassfield, fra. Defensive stud who scores some too. TJ Roberts, MJCA. I Got to watch him hit his 1000th point!!
