  1. Now on to the other region 1 (SHHS) wrestling. Sam Lane SHHS at 126 big congrats on beating Williams in a tough match great job getting to the semi finals! Hunter Bagley at 170 SHHS - great job getting to the Semis I knew Elliot was not able to beat you, Damman at 120 shhs is looking focused and strong gonna be tough to beat, Other SHHS wrestlers look pretty much as I expected good solid job the wins and the losses were all hard fought, may be peaking as a team! Today is gonna be a real tough test...
  2. I know that making weight is as important as the match in this sport, but I feel sympathy for Bones if that is the case, He is a great wrestling representative for this region and everytime I have seen him and talked with him at a tournament or at a practice over the years he has been very pleasent, open, and respectful.
  3. Agree great to see Coaches making the right call on the more important character and consequence issues! Good Job Soddy on more then producing wrestlers but most importantly working to produce good men! Having gone through a similar situation as these young men (not knowing the exact circumstances) it is a learning situation for both the punished and the innocent and speaks volumes about the coaching staff's character!
  4. Sux seeded and get Soddy first round...
  5. not everyone... Saw plenty on here that made realistic and well thought out close prediction, however King is also right on in his explanation, I would say in watching previous years of DB - Sci Hill matches that DB was on par with their previous years, Not taking anything away from the DB individuals who we all know are very good, always seem to be 4 - 5 kids that are good in my recollection just last year those kids with a few exceptions ran into Hill match- up problems. just my calm two cents...
  6. I have seen what Sommers is talking about - Florida wrestling came late with northern transplants who fostered it and demanded it at our schools and it grew from those original seeds with usually teams entirely made up of northern transplants such as my own. Brandon was a great example of that, and now after many years of being great they have local kids who dream of being great wrestlers and love wrestling - like the current climate in Chattanooga the younger gents tend to focus on the more recent branches which have continued the development and progress
  7. It was great to see such a close meaningful local match. Some kids - yes my own struggled and made critical mistakes. Good thing is team stuck together and were supportive of all and came through for those who didnt. Glad to see Hayes gut out that very important 3-2 win near the end, along with the other excellent wins of course! Also the team composure during certain instances was good as well... Congrats Toppers!
  8. I will be there of course, have to sit all by myself just ended my bout with the flu... no matter the outcome it will be good to see the competetive fire stoked.. Hope everyone wrestles their best, clean, and with no injuries - and let the chips fall where they may
  9. Ah ha its all comming together...
  10. If this were facebook you would get the like bomb dropped on your comment here from many! Any of us can add our own lists as well right??? we all have different perspective and influences upon our perspectives... step out of the shadows and put your guess on here thats what this fun thread is for...
  11. Bagley and Frye are neck and neck - I went Bagley not because of the obvious but becuase of Soddy tournament 6-1 Bagley head to head, no disrespect to Frye intended if I had listed two kids per weight class I would have had Frye with Bagley I think the two should be 1 and 2 seed and should meet in regional final. Tonight may help muddy the water further or clear this up
  12. Then Buck through me off as our freshman turned him and the mat should have been slapped he was quite sloppy, could have just been one match or the unorthodox freshman with a ton of fight... but it was the reason I switched to Bond, no biggie
  13. I will try - based some on record and who they wrestled (stookesbury) but most I have seen Here is my shot at it region one 132 - max vaughn 138 - william stookesbury 145 - austin bagley 152 - joe begley 160 - jared bond 170 - M. brown 182 - B. brown
  14. Tim thanx, and your kids are toughening up great job!
  15. anyway here is my prediction for tonights big match... 40-33...
  16. I dont understand the issue here anyway (FAN) they will wrestle soon at any rate. What should tuesday in a easily decided dual matter with our 182 out the coaches coach we watch and encourage... heck what would you be saying if they did wrestle? did it really leave you that unsatisfied? Is a match against a Freshman who doesnt touch the mat outside of wrestling season what you base your enjoyment of the dual or your 170 lbs success on? silliness! I assure you the kid doesnt choose to duck anybody he is pretty even keeled in that manner and pretty much takes a loss when he is beat with grace and acceptance much like he does a win. Instead I would crow a little about how outstanding Hurley did even as a Sci hill guy I was impressed and happy to see his dedication and hard work paying off. Thats what should be the subject of this thread regarding THS wrestling right now and it is a big positive!
  17. what drama ? just a bunch of folks who love our local wrestling and seriously follow it like some people love UT football, heck this is fun and certainly not meant to offend anybody... If you go to enough region one matches you can pretty tell out of the small group that goes to every match their team is in who we are... Lets keep it light everyone and to who I offended I apologize didnt mean it to be hurtful at all, I will be more sensetive in the future - Smile you all this will all be over soon then a bunch of us will start counting the days again till preseason again... Hope this region and as many kids from these teams as possible really come through this year and in the near future at the state level no matter what team they are on!
  18. Crank - Confession time Austin is the same way, dont know many of the top wrestlers that dont have that edge as a participant in this civilized combative sport and dont at times drive their opponents to frustration. Lordy i wouldnt be offended one bit at my statement about my kid it wasnt trash talking, maybe you misunderstood my statement - remember aau state the last year they were both in it together Palmer left more then one kid crying or pounding the mat in anguish heck I remember one kid that everytime Palmer put him in legs would scream so loud the match would stop to reset (cause thats all the kid could do to keep in the match), some kids bring that out in their opponents... that was it in a nutshell - I feel Plamer is the best kid at his weight in this region for sure...
  19. My guess only - SHHS 182 was out and they bumped him to fill the hole and go for the certain 6 - y risk the loss or the 3? Post season will come soon enough...
  20. I dont put blame on Palmer over many years i have seen him bring out the worst in other wrestlers he frustrates many of them and is cocky enough/confident enough to get under their skin mentally as well... Sure it goes both ways too when he is in a tough scrap... I dont think you trash talked nor did I. Just is what it is...
  21. U mean Palmer was involved in a tough match that had a unsportsmanlike element to it??? Gasp! well I never ...
  22. Come on Brooks its obvious u have an opinion y wait for everyone elses so u can jump on it? No one knows who u are its ok just let it out ... we wont bite...
  23. yes of course this will be subjective and dependent on the kid in some cases ie. a Senior who is fairly muscle mature vs a young 16 year old or 15 year old for example. Having wrestled many tough five match tournaments and recovered painfully at times over the following days I find myself recently as a father thinking more and more about the cummulative benefit vs wear in regard to a developing body...when does the number of matches cutting weight included of course in a short season become a problem?? and possibly lead to a decline on the bell curve in strength and ultimately wins and most importantly personal health? I looked in tssaa handbook and cannot find the answer on the subject and do understand and appreciate the five match rule, is a day defined as daylight or 24 hours?. Obviously different for a mature college wrestler then it is for a growing boy... just curious on the thoughts and if there is science on the subject anybody knows of. thanx
