  1. endless fun, if only someone would sponsor a round robin of at least all three 1st place finishers and if you like expand it to include all 2nd place as well with one additional at large for each weight to include young men like Russo. I know you say it cant be done, but seriously y not - three hours three mats... And wouldn't the wrestlers being champions look forward to settling it?
  2. Boy don't we wish it could be settled on the mat one way or another... Come on TSSAA, some day find a way to settle it... Not going to defend circumstances matter. But wouldn't it be great If someone in this state held a March or April (to deal with dead period) invitational tourney for state placers 1-4 in all divisions give 5 pounds but must wrestle your division...
  3. I assure you 220 would not be a given to D2 Bagley gave up 2 escapes at State in five matches, one on purpose to try for a major, while he wrestled well under weight all year he was still the strongest kid in the weight class physically and mentally, My money biased as it may be, would be on Hunter, he has mastered how to manage a match for the W. His only mat loss came after a grueling overtime semi with a physical specimen from SC with nothing left in the tank for the final at the fandetti. Was tailored for a stall a thon counter type win in the final for a relatively fresh opponent. His other loss was in a tie on injury time when he hurt his knee first match of the season with the South Carolina State Champ (another physical beast who had to cut hard to make 220). No accounting for the fight and competitive spirit in that dog...
  4. when I was young in a different state we had a district, regional, then state individual tourney, but we didn't have a dual tourney, I think I prefer the value of a dual tourney for the team building aspect it helps reinforce. That said a 32 man tourney is huge, and with broader regional tourney or call it a sectional tourney wouldn't you expect to really start to shake loose the best 16 man bracket for a state championship. I have no dog in the fight anymore, just my thoughts. Further - (thurs, fri, sat night) is tooo long!
  5. wrestling has definitely improved in the Region. So proud of the fight in these young men, this shows the willingness to take on tougher teams out of region and travel offseason and in season pays. As a dad yes I'm going to give a shout out to Hunter publicly, your toughness and competitive drive have been an example to your young teammates and have made a big difference in showing these willing young men how to be tough and how to win, you have contributed to the future of the Hill greatly! Congrats on a terrific Senior Season to remember!
  6. Amazing and gratifying for these two teams is probably not stated well enough! These two teams had serious challenges compared to the field one in age and the other with holes in the lineup. It is fair two say the competitive streak these two bring out in each other has helped lead to this outstanding result. Iron sharpening iron! Yep they are both ready to be among the top teams in the state, keep building guys! proud of both teams!
  7. Congrats go bring home third, what a run shorthanded!
  8. I have to say the mutual respect and relationships between parents coaches and some of the kids in this matchup make it bittersweet. No team in the region we would rather share the stage with from this parents perspective I assure you! Best of luck Region 1!
  9. how great is this for Region 1 - I predict Science Hill by 4 pts on the rubber match! For better or for worse the Region1 crown is going to be determined today! what an awesome way to end the dual season!
  10. your team is very good as you know, I too wish it would fill out. Incredible what you all can do with the forfeits and injuries, great heart and toughness!
  11. Wow talk about a return!, with the youth Science Hill has they are BACK! Huge Congrats kids, coaches, and supporters! Your development and growing toughness is Special!!!
  12. Holy smokes Science Hill into SEMI Finals!!!! Terriffic!!!! Toughness and Grit!
  13. how exciting was that for the young Science Hill Toppers! down to the wire win!
  14. Yessss!!! great win for our young men! Congrats Toppers!
  15. now that's a great response! so many take themselves too seriously... Ha! Good luck to your young men!
  16. Science Hill is going to surprise either Blackman or Heritage if they don't get by Blackman by limiting bonus points and sneaking a few... Teams going to prove they have learned through the trials and show the toughness I know each of these kids has inside.
  17. last night I checked on track though no bracket it did represent the first round matchups in text Said Wilson Central top of 1 Bradley bottom of 16 etc. I guess that's seeding however I cant imagine Bradley being number 2 to anyone this year, however I am sure it will all work to the correct conclusion at the end, did notice Science Hill Blackman matchup per the row description. thought for sure if this was set it would showup on TSSAA first, but what do I know could be preliminary...
  18. agree, your coaches have an excellent core of dedicated talented kids that many of us have known and respect, and the coaches have done very well to compete at a high level with the forfeits, great dedication in your program! And Congrats Science Hill on the win, took care of business! Solid effort, bonus points as needed and in even the close wins and losses, the kids stayed strong and competed to support the team goal!
  19. yep I misread I was clearly talking dual state for some reason (cause I was day dreaming about tonights dual match) and I gave an opinion about filling out from top to bottom. Completely agree with both of you, maybe even not out of the question to approach top five in (Individual) state with the kids who should make it into medals this year, next year looks good to. Both of your teams do a great job of traveling to become better with your sacrifice sharing your "off time", that is paying off for sure!. Wish more non wrestling youngsters and parents could have been introduced to the sport tonight, great passion and fans whooping it up, was fun atmosphere.
  20. not that I see, unfortunately, individuals will break through and should be a good year for some state placers and two to three individuals that could win it all with a decent draw. However when your best teams and big schools cant attract solid top of the line big guys or forfeit multiple weight classes in general it says a lot about the draw and interest locally. I don't understand it, Its a sport where big manly guys should want to come out and contest and be challenged... and wrestling balance and toughness leads to superior big men in football... But look at any local paper in NE Tennessee and you see what is king - Girls and boys basketball - in that order... (tells you volumes) My two cents...
  21. It's a coin flip tonight and again at regional duals got to win the coin flip. If science hill can control certain matchups they win, if not Tennessee High could win close.
  22. Cant believe this is the home stretch of the last year having a kid in the sport, to try to coach, watch wrestle, and grow up match by match. I have watched the boys develop internal strength and self reliance no other sport can muster or foster in the same manner that will help equip the young men for life. Never wanted to imagine this time, ten years gone and they are nearly grown. Many of you know through experience how much I am going to miss this, from the early trips to Chatt with two little boys, to Nashville, Virginia, and tourneys all over the southeast, never minded the road trips win or lose we shared good time. I remember the excitement and nerves of the annual AAU state appearances and now the last six years of two brothers in High school, with the elation and despair a moment on the mat can bring... Austin and Hunter have exceeded and continue to in so many ways, I am a proud dad I have good clean kids that the sport has helped to shape! I am also proud of all the kids we were connected to through this sport and process who have grown and achieved so much, from the early learning and flailing days and building of personal competitive rivalries to the kids hanging out together with mutual respect and smiles after the match. God I am going to miss this..! Never been easy but always been memorable and worth every up and down moment! I have enjoyed the parents and coaches I have met and share time with over the years locally, at tourneys, and at state from all corners of the state, and always smile when I think of how your kids have grown to become decent respectful young men as they moved on from school to real life. Thank you to the coaches and parents who cared about my boys and treated them like family along the way. Not the end but drawing near, finish strong kids, mine and yours! Marshall Bagley
  23. http://jcnewsandneighbor.com/toppers-results-mixed-at-duals-tournament/ been a 50/50 type tough start with this young team but seriously tough and sound young wrestlers developing out of this schedule. I see it every match in the low to mid weights - a new wrinkle, new skills, and developing confidence, coming along nicely!
  24. As I read the link about Chad Solomon (congrats), it also recalled to my mind Skyler Boring, a colorful vibrant kid cut short. The Rooster scholarship is a nice tribute to him. Being reminded by the article though I didnt know him well, I was able to recall him and my oldest son Austins matches and positive interactions through AAU and traveling teams in high school. A nice reminder!
