  1. One thing is for sure. A D1AAA champ had to do a lot more wrestling to get there.
  2. I was lucky enough to see this match. I'm certainly not as knowledgeable as many on this thread. It was a slam. The only problem I saw with the whole thing is if the kid could not continue how , by rule , can he then advance? Cant continue should mean can't continue. I think the spirit of the rule is to have kids that may be down on the scoreboard to not have a motive to hurt someone in order to advance. I get that. But when you put this in the hands of coaches to make that call not all coaches will react with any other motivation but to do whatever they can to advance their kid. Its a side of our sport that can get ugly, but for some its all about the W and integrity is not a major determining factor ,as it should be.
  3. Wouldn't the revenue from the additional wrestlers returning to medal rounds in another 16 bracket offset the additional cost of the extra bracket by bringing those families back who would have otherwise been eliminated? That seems to be the driving force in the other divisions. It would seem another bracket would be more revenue. Regardless, I'm sure you' re correct in saying the T$$AA would never go for it. Kinda sad its more about money than about kids having a good experience and wrestling on a level mat within all divisions. During states I had a conversation with a kid I knew from a school close to us whom we had faced in a district dual.He was volunteering to help tap and work tables for free. The match we happened to be watching was a d2 that was in this kids weight class and it was well past the rounds necessary for d2 to medal. Come to find out this kid who was not good enough to place 4th or higher in our region had pinned the kid out there on the mat at an open tournament in 18 seconds of the first round.
  4. What about splitting d1 aaa into east and west , or something to that effect ? 2 16 brackets? With d2 and aa splits already making championship medalists not unified state champs , what would be the difference?
  5. I guess you can always put your house on the market and move into a aa district.lol
  6. point taken. But it is kind of dis-heartening to see kids working tables with volunteer shirts on, in matches to which they are a lot better wrestlers than the ones on the mat. I guess a true competitor loves the competition but it would be nice to see, time, expense and effort rewarded equally and not see some really good kids not get any recognition because they go to the wrong school..
  7. Thanks , I may need to do my homework. Just wondering about the criteria for determination of double and triple a . It may not have been an 8 round but Im pretty sure it wasn't a 32 round.
  8. Why are schools determined to be AA when in many cases the number of students and the location of schools are similar? Can anyone with insight shed light? I know of a kid who has a best friend who attends a school right up the road. Kid A had to wrestle 2 very tough matches at states to get to the quarters and his buddy came to states and started at quarters. The two schools are very similar in location and number of students but school B be is in an easy aa district and has a cakewalk to the round of 8 in states and school A is in a very tough aaa district and has a brutal 32 bracket at states. Why is this?
  9. Its amazing the difference one bad call can make in a tournament. That being said , many who stand on a soap box when its someone else's kid if put in the same position would use any rule or call to advance their kid to the next round. The officiating and the bad use and interpretation of a rule are at fault here. Even though it was a bad situation and your heart breaks for the Russo kid, don't blame a coach for advancing his kid. Blame a bad rule and a bad call .Many will disagree with this opinion, but there it is.
  10. I'm out of the prediction business after regions. I'll leave it to those with more insight.
  11. I'll give it a whirl 106-Manivonk 113-Dooley 120-Fuller 126-Shrader 132-Remillard 138-Butler 145-Knott 152-Rowland 160-Strong 170-Carney 182- toss up 195-toss up 220-Vought(upset) 285-Hancock
