  1. That is the group I was talking about. There were a lot of really strong guys during that era. Even some of the skill position players were benching around 300. It really makes you wonder what some of the previous team could have done with the advantages that the current teams have. The 2002 offense was unstoppable, but there just wasn’t enough depth so West just wore them down with the power running game. And yes, Crosby was freak of nature.
  2. Care for a rematch now that we have all our starters back? DB definitely took it to us in that scrimmage, but I wouldn’t read too much into that. Greeneville played as bad as they could possibly play in that game. If Greeneville ran the offense they ran against Alcoa, then I think it would be a really good game. You didn’t see the real Greeneville Devils on that day. DB would still have a good chance of beating Greeneville in a real game, but it would go much different than you think. Just don’t get too cocky because you beat us in a meaningless scrimmage.
  3. That's one way of looking at it. I prefer to think like this, there are some starters on the county schools that could make Greeneville better by starting or being a valuable sub for Greeneville. I like my idea better.
  4. To me, that is what makes this coaching staff (including the McCurry era) better than previous coaching staffs. They have obviously made a serious commitment in the weight room. There will never be enough pure talent in Greeneville to be among the state’s elite every year without working harder and smarter in the weight room than everyone else.
  5. Whatever they are doing is obviously working. I was just curious to hear what they worked most in the weight room, since the bench press numbers weren't has high as I expected. Bench press is probably one of the most overrated weight lifting stats, but that is what a lot of people focus on. Thanks for the info.
  6. That kind of surprises me. I remember when I was in High School, there were probably around 10 guys who could bench press 300+lbs. I’m sure that the current Greeneville players are much stronger all around because they work out more, but I figured there would be more of them benching over 300lbs. Do you know what their primary focus is regards speed and strength training?
  7. Very true. The sad part is, the city versus county problems will likely never get any better. There are too many people from both sides that continue to instigate the negativity.
  8. You continue to impress everyone with your posting skills.
  9. I haven’t seen a decent football game in awhile, so I may come to watch this one. I say DB by 14.
  10. That is a very good point that shouldn't be forgotten. There have been many people that have contributed to the success of the GHS program financially, through various fundraisers or buying ads for a program. Obviously, the major contributions come from a select few, but it takes an entire community to keep the program going strong.
  11. I hope you are correct, but I also hope the players aren't thinking that way.
  12. I agree, I think Goode can be the real deal for Greeneville. I've asked here before, does anyone know what Culbreth's 40 time is?
  13. Ok, thanks. Just wanted to make sure his ankle wasn't worse than we thought.
  14. Just wondering, is that strictly a precautionary decision or is Shuffler too injured to play?
  15. Yes, and I wouldn’t take much of a chance with Stewart either. He is the player that makes this offense click, so I wouldn’t leave him out there very long at all to decrease the risk of injury. I would give the backup RB most of the reps. Maybe work on the passing game a little early in the game with the first team, but get all of them out quickly. Of course, I don’t claim to be a football coach so I’ll trust whatever this staff decides to do.
  16. Great year of football in Greene County. Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs.
  17. I agree. It would be tempting to make this week an off week for some of the starters. At this point, getting/staying healthy is far more important than getting reps against a team that probably isn’t going to provide much resistance anyway. I don't mean to disrespect Claiborne, but Greeneville's players can get higher quality reps in practice this week than on Friday night.
  18. Has anyone else noticed that Culbreath can absolutely fly?
  19. I should have made it clear that my post was just a general statement. It wasn’t directed at you specifically, my fault.
  20. Good point. The thing I don’t understand is this. There are teams all across the state that dominate their conference, but for some reason people want to make a big deal about Greeneville dominating in the BRAC. To hear some people talk, Greeneville should be ashamed to beat the BRAC teams like that and should play up a division to make it fair for the BRAC teams. I’ll never understand why people want GHS to apologize for being better than the other conference teams.
  21. I'd like to see them play in a better conference, but I don't see why they would want to move back up. As long as you are winning state championship or at least have a shot, then why change? We spent way too many years having to battle much larger schools in the old division. It makes you wonder how much success and how many championships GHS would have if they would have played in the correct division all those years.
  22. Thanks for your contribution to this thread. I'm not sure what we'd do without you.
  23. That is correct. The county schools have it much better than Greeneville in that regard.
  24. Thanks for the compliment. Good luck to you as well.
