    BA @ MBA

I wouldn't blame this on the MBA injuries. The fault lies with the MBA DL. No push, no penetration, no aggressiveness. Therefore LBs can't make plays and the secondary is having to do all the run support AND stop the pass. Three juniors and one senior start on DL and my guess is that someone(s) will go to the bench. MBA's SS has been the leader tackler in every game this season. Because the D can't get off the field the O is always playing catch-up, one dimensional O. Additionally, the MBA O-line has gotten no push at all so, forced into 3rd and long, the qb is running for his life. MBA lost one O-lineman (a back-up also went out against BA), a tailback, and the fs/wr who will return this week. Games are won and lost up front though and right now there is no "up front for MBA. I will add that I am afraid the DC is in over his head. On the positive side BA ripped MBA last year too. Hope springs eternal and with some personnel moves and player improvement over the season who knows? Several years ago Ensworth annihilated MBA early in the season but the Big Red beat them in the playoffs. Now if Baylor puts a whipping on the Big Red the wheels may come off. Morale is quite low as it is.
  2. MBA has just completed perhaps the worst two weeks of football in school history comparable to the losses a couple of years ago to Ensworth and then BGA at Homecoming. I'm not sure those were back to back losses however.. Last night's first half was worse than the Trinity game the week before. BA closed shop in the second half and pretty much stuck to the ground game or it would have been MUCH worse. Losing fs and wr Blackwell hurt but not this much. I've watched the Big Red for many years and don't think I have ever seen a weaker DL, a poorer scheme, a more helpless secondary, and in general a horrible D. MBA wants to sit back and try to match speed for speed. There is no push up front, no penetration, no pressure on the qb or in the backfield. The results are agonizingly predictable. Very poor strategy and perhaps poor personnel though the consensus was the MBA would be significantly improved this year. Not sure they have the right people in the right places yet. John Bachmann will set a school record for tackles at the rate he's going, and he's the strong safety. Not good.

TB Jackson is likely out for the year (ACL), OL Mitchell I don't know about. FS and WR Blackwell is doubtful but may play some offense tomorrow night. He had a minor meniscus injury.
  4. MBA lost their starting tb early in the game. Probably out for the season. More costly however they lost their starting fs, Blakcwell, who also plays wr. The domino effect on D was devastating. SS had to move over and assume primary responsibility for Quick, Trinity's 5* wr. But the battle was really lost up front. MBA's D-line and linebackers were nearly invisible and certainly ineffective. Not enough speed there. The vast majority of tackles were made by the secondary. Trinity never punted and seldom had a 3rd down. MBA went with 3 down lineman much of the time, a questionable scheme imo. QB ran for his life most of the night and threw several ints. Trinity was fast and flawless. Kickoff man put it into end zone nearly every time. MBA performance was disappointing. Too many good players not to be more competitive.
  5. Dylan Hall is the qb, has apparently beaten out Simonis. Dylan has a good arm, runs decently well, will throw into trouble at times. MBA strength will be OL with Bars, Robertson, and Bradshaw leading the way. #23 is Gary Jackson, good runner who has been a little fumble prone the last two years. Other tbs are Jamail Wright and JeTarri Donald. Best runner in spring practice, according to Coach Davis, was John Bachmann, but he has been moved to safety (Jackson missed most of spring practice). Still learning that position but projected starter. Once he learns that position he may see some O eventually. WRs will be Best, Birdsong, Blackwell for the most part, all good players. Best probably has the best hands, no pun intended. TEs will be Einstman (basketball player) and and Robertson but sometimes Wilson Johnson will fill in too. MBA D-line will be very solid with Kevin Murphy leading the way. LBs are stout with Kay, Morphis, and Hamilton (a bit small) but not the fleetest of foot. Corners are Beckner and Hooper with Wright backing up. Safeties will likely be Bachmann and Blackwell, two basketball players and good athletes. Punter will be Clint Smith, backed up by Bachmann and punt returner will be Best. Players love Coach E! And by the way his son is a 9th grade stud qb. Oakland is down this year so its hard to tell how good MBA really is. Strong potential though. A LOT of really good athletes. Big Rdd will be faster and better on D his year.
