  1. George Bullock the P/PK from West is really good and will definitely have a chance to make an impact at UT in the coming years.

Karns has a D lineman who is fast enough to line up at RB for any team in the area.

Other than that I thought the jamboree was boring and drawn out. Most coaches seemed content with pounding the ball on the ground in hopes of a 1-score victory, and very few took any shots down the field. With a market of sports fans the size of Knoxville's, and with UT not in full swing yet, I think the organizers could do a better job putting together and exhibition that truly generates excitement for the upcoming season.

    Your thoughts...

  2. And to the not so anonamous AG if Farragut is so confident why did they place themselves in the weakest pool for their own tourney while they put AC, Dobyns Bennett. Blackmun, GPS, Karns and the other strong teams together? I guarantee that AC wouldn't have done that. If you are so confident why not replace that TOUGH matchup with Powell that you have in pool play with AC?

    Didn't think so?

If you want to be taken seriously play the tough teams.

Well, this has obviously got you a little upset. I never took any direct shots at you or your team, so get off my back. All I said was that Farragut deserves to be mentioned when the conversation relates to the best teams in Knoxville, and they DO. I'm a fan, I do not play and I do not have a child on the team so there is no "We" as it relates to me and Farragut volleyball. I think some people on here need to take a step back and remember that they are not on the team either. As for the tournament, I can't answer that. My justification however is that we already played and beat them ON THEIR COURT, so why play again? That pretty much sums it up for me until the season starts. I can't wait for new storylines to emerge.

PS - you spelled anonymous wrong

  3. Farragut's schdule is brutal coming out of the gate with DB at home and @Oak Ridge the next week. The OR game can make or break a season when played that early imo, but I don't think the Admirals can afford to look past DB. The student section at Farragut will be sporting the togas again this year against DB as is tradition for seniors at the first home game of each season.

  4. I have been a Farragut fan for many years. This scrimmage against Alcoa should be a concern for any Farragut football follower. If the team doesn't learn from this and significantly improve they are in for a long season.

The first team defense could not stop Alcoa period. It didn't matter if it was a pass or run.....first down after first down and then touchdown, every time they got the ball. Alcoa's running backs, didn't matter who, ran at will. Farragut's offense was the same as previous years, mainly using the same plays over and over again whether they worked or not. Future teams will know exactly what's coming and can easily adjust.

Even the difference in coaching on the field was apparent. Alcoa's gave animated immediate instruction when a player made a mistake or needed to make an adjustment. I wasn't sure if Farragut's was even there.

If they played a full game the score would have been 49-7 or worse.

    "A concerned Farragut fan"

Farragut did not look as bad as this post indicates. First team D made several stops early on, but as I said earlier, they have NO depth. And as always, what you see is what you get with Coach Courtney; not much diversity in play calling on offense or defense.

  5. I'm not trying to start a AC/FHS battle here, just stating facts. Farragut and AC scrimmaged about a week and a half ago at AC and the results were as I stated earlier. The key players for Farragut all play for the same club (which K2ruth should know) and do very well. They are senior laden and have all played together for quite some time, so they don't need a lot of coaching up. That was proven last year when they ran though Knoxville (aside from Karns, they were real good) and fell to a DB powerhouse in the sectional during Davidson's first year as coach.

  6. Alcoa's running attack is back. RB#29 is small, shifty, and fast and is a tough runner to bring down. RB#33 is bigger, and very quick as well. FB#44 is a bruiser and an effective lead blocker, but he fumbled a handoff behind the line of scrimmage in the first possession. Alcoa's QB#15 is also a very dangerous runner, especially when he is able to get to the outside. As far as passing goes it looked as if he was having trouble seeing down the field. He was able to connect on a 70 yd TD to #34 partially due to a busted assignment. Alcoa came alive on the ground against the second team defense.

Alcoa's defense was able to squash a less than effective Farragut passing game. The D Line struggled in the middle as Farragut was able to gain possitive yards consistently on the ground. Although Farragut had trouble passing it looked like the Alcoa coaches weren't pleased with something they were seeing out of their secondary.

Farragut's offense is a heavy helping of QB zone reads, end arounds, and off tackle runs. QB#4 had some good runs of 8-10 yards but also made some bad reads in the zone schemes. RB/ATH#14 is a fast runner who finishes his carries surprisingly well. Farragut did not appear to have any down-field threats at receiver, but did complete a 25 yd pass down the middle to TE#34. Their passing game will most likely consist of inside crossing routes to small, speedy receivers. P/PK#17 will be a weapon this season with FGs and punts. His best punt was 48yds and landed inside the 10yd line.

Farragut's defensive front did a good job with run-fits and getting a push up front. The secondary, however, is a glaring weakness at this point. The defense as a whole lacks depth which showed when Alcoa had consecutive runs of 38 (#29) and 32 (#15) yards on a scoring drive.

  7. I think Farragut is the sure-fire favorite to come out of the Knoxville area this year. They are one of the top teams, if not the only top team, in Knoxville that is not facing rebuilding challenges. I've seen alot of AC love on here, but Farragut beat them 3 strait this summer without playing great volleyball. Not saying they will finish on top, but they should be the pre-season favorite.

  8. I had forgotten about the Prevo kid at Maryville. He's just a sophomore if I remember correctly. I watched him light it up last year against Bearden. Him behind an experienced O Line and Robinette passing effeciently and tucking the ball when neccessary will make for one of the most explosive offenses in the state imo. This year's Alcoa/Maryville matchup is definitely must-see action.

  9. I never said that we were. I am just not ready to say that Courtney is the premiere HS Coach in the state yet. Despite beating us 5 years running.

Had I said CEC was the premier coach in TN that WOULD HAVE BEEN LAUGHABLE. But I didn't. All I said was that becuase of his experience, and his understanding of the rivalry, he will not let his players looks past OR.

  10. Who takes this game? Oak Ridge is playing at home and is said to be much improved. Farragut is riding a 5 yr winning streak over the Wildcats...

Winning at Blankenship is a traditionally a benchmark for Farragut football squads. However, with the recent success against the Cats will the players look past OR? I think not. Coach Courtney has coached way too many games to let his players get ahead of themselves before Oak Ridge, and his Ads are bringing back alot of talent and experience. Admirals 28-10.

  11. Thanks Admiral. Looking forward to the trip and the kick off of the season.....

I had read that there is an O lineman at Farragut getting lots of interest from the D-1 schools and then there was a longer thread debating which Farragut kid they were talking about. You guys must be stacked again up front. I am certain that Coach Courtney will have them primed and ready. Did Cody start the season at QB last year and then get injured or was he out all year?

I'm having trouble remembering now, but it seems like he played at least a game or two.

  12. This should be one of the better games in the area that night. I know Farragut had a couple of players out of last yrs game with injuries but are back this yr.

Im going with Farragut in a close one at home.

    Farragut 24- DB 21

No Admiral representation on here so I'll give it a go...

Farragut's offense should be sound and more than able to put points on the board. The O Line is solid and the Admirals will be happy to have Cody Rule (Sr QB, 2 year starter) and Jacob Johnson (Sr ATH 2, year starter) back on the field after injuries sidelined them during their junior campaigns. Jonathan King is a Jr punter and placekicker that Coach Courtney has plenty of confidence in. I don't know much about the defense other than that they are trying to build depth there, so there may be some young faces getting PT this season.
