  1. ladytigerfan, how about some info on C.A.K.. What are their strengths & weaknesses? Thanks for any help.
  2. Unaka travels to C.A.K. on Fri. for a repeat of the substate matchup from last year. Does anyone have info. on C.A.K.. I know about Brockman but who's the threat offensively and what is their defense like?
  3. Univ. High is led by Cori McVeigh who throws hard and has good control, however she has nothing off speed. Tell Rockwood hitters to be patient at the plate & look for something to hit. Offensively, the catcher Megan Backers is their big threat. Keep the ball away from her & she can't hurt you. Their lead off hitter who's name escapes me right now has speed, and the shortstop is good defensivly & cover a lot of territory.

    District 2A

Does anyone know who the top two teams are in Dist. 2A? I know Unaka & Univ. High in Dist. 1 play these two teams but no one seems to have any info on the teams or anything about them. Thanks for any help!
  5. Just curious. Who was named coach of the year in the Watauga Conference?
  6. District 1A 1. Unaka 2. University High
  7. I have to agree with Coach17. Two years ago, two key players saw the handwriting on the wall at Eliz. & went to Unaka. There's no question in my mind that the only reason the Cyclones didn't get past Unicoi Co. in the regionals last year is because they didn't have Ryann Musick who went to Unaka because of the politics at Elizabethton. (then Coach Keys) Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying that Musick is any better than Edgar or Robinson, but Unicoi Co. has always had trouble with Musick. I think even Unicoi would admit that. The defection of Keys has probably helped Eliz. mentally at least. I also agree with the other post, leave the girls alone & let them get back to having fun. That's what softball is supposed to be. I believe that would probably improve their game more than anything else right now.
  8. Unaka did play well at Tiny Day. They beat Cocke Co. 13-3, Greeneville H.S. 7-1, & lost a tough one to Oak Ridge 1-0 in what was surely the best game of the tournament. Unaka gave up one unearned run in the bottom of the 1st inning & that was it. A real pitchers duel. Unaka just couldn't produce a run but you must also give credit to Oak Ridges pitcher. She threw very well & had a good rise ball that gave the Unaka ladies trouble all night. If memory serves me, I think Buckshot was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.
  9. Does anyone know exactly how or when the stress fracture happened?
  10. I heard yesterday that Cyclones pitcher Mary Edgar is out for the season with some type of stress fracture. If this is true, it will definetely hurt the cyclones even more. She is a good pitcher & infielder & also hits & runs extremely well. I'm not sure what's happened to Eliz. this year since they have the same team (except for Keys) that they had last year & came within one game of going to Miss. for the TN state tournement Hope they turn it around. - Good luck Cyclones!
  11. I guess the umpires can carry anybody. Unaka got a small dose of home cooking in the last inning at D. Boone yesterday. It's scarry how close Unaka came to beating Boone even though Boone's pitcher gave up only one hit. Final score was 2-1. Musick held Boone to 4 hits against argueablly one of the best hitting teams in E. TN. Ariel Dye popped up twice & struck out swinging once. Musick is dominating for Unaka right now striking out 20 & walking three in two games. Never say never but right now, I don't see Cloudland playing with Unaka.
  12. Very interesting discussion. I am also in the boosters club here at Unaka in NE TN. We charge $4 and the school gets the money to spend on the program. I think some of this also depends on the size of the school. We're class A and we don't get much support from any other resourceses other than a very small amount of advertising. If schools aren't charging for their games - it may be because they're funded well from the school system? I wish we could do this but if we didn't take gate money - we probably wouldn't have softball for very long!
  13. I agree with BigShow. It depends on the pitcher. The good ones know there's really no off season. They keep in shape & they keep pitching to stay strong. You can always tell which ones are which at the first of the season.
  14. Unaka has D. Crockett to start out & then Central & Va. High. A tough start but I believe Unaka can win all three if they come to play. They beat Va. High last fall 2-1 in the Winged Deer tournament in a great game. If I remember right Unaka beat Central twice last year & Unaka only lost two from last years team. I really don't know much about Crockett so no prediction there. - Go Rangers!
  15. Dosen't South have a new left handed pitcher? I can't remember her name but I know she worked a lot during the off season with Jarfly Dugger in Elizabethton. I love them leftys!
  16. I don't think any teams have dropped out as of yet but I know Coach Hicks at Uanak had to adjust the schedules some because of the weather. Everyone will now get three games instead of four. Keep your fingers crossed and lets pray for good weather!
  17. Kayla will only be in the 8th grade this year. Next year, Unaka will have both Winters and Musick - a pretty decent pair of left handers!
  18. If Hampton could get Scotty Bunton to coach that team they would stand a chance of building a program. Bunton played fastpitch in the old men's leagues for years & knows the game. I think he still coaches at Hampton, maybe baseball? Anyway-good luck Hampton!
  19. Does anyone know how many players Unicoi has returning this year? I know Elizabethton returns almost everyone except for one pitcher who transferred to D. Boone I think. Eliz. is so deep at pitching that I don't see losing one hurts them. They still have three that are very good.
  20. ok - I'm new at this & I'm home with a toothache taking really good drugs for the pain so if I mess this up just bear with me. Who will it be in upper e. tn. in a & aa? I think it comes down to Unaka & Univ. High in a & probably Elizabethton & Unicoi Co. in aa.
