  1. krbks, Here is a post of yours from last year as a response to the statement that you don't post half truths or innuendo or make insinuations. jett', on 13 Feb 2012 - 1:09 PM, said: "A very high order level of thinking for a group of parents, let alone a group of kids, without a coach’s direction or influence." I would definitely define the latter statement from you as an insinuation and use of innuendo to imply wrong doing. You offered no proof of wrong doing just an opinion of wrong doing based on the fact the kids played together and ended up at CPA together. Yet, many people on here have explained how this happened over a period of several years and the fact these parents knew each other and wanted what CPA had to offer and that they wanted to play together yet you conjectured the coach did something wrong to orchestrate it. Many people on here have also talked about the 20 other kids from those AAU teams that are very good players that ended up at different places. Yet, you've never talked about them or gotten statements from them about how they were treated by Coach Maddux. Your statement also insults these kids and their parents in that it implies they can't think at a "high order level" and understand what they want for their children on their own without a coaches' improper involvement. To my knowledge you have never apologized to them. You may not even realize how insulting and hurtful a statement like that can be. You also provide no proof, no names of those willing to testify and corroborate your accusations and stories, you provide no documentation like emails of any sort of a coach doing anything wrong. Have you even said he did exactly that was wrong that could be defined as "illegal recruiting". When asked for it your response is generally that no parent wants to get anyone in trouble and we have to accept that as a fact and accept your accusations the coaches did something wrong? How is that fair and balanced in terms of proof? Shouldn't you hear the other side of the story from the coach before posting your allegations as a fact? In this country shouldn't people at CPA be presumed innocent until proven guilty? I'm aware of the CPA staff, administration, coaches, and teachers taking very deliberate and painstaking steps over many years to make sure they don't violate TSSAA rules because they know others will think they do and they want to make sure they don't. I've posted about it numerous times here. It sounds like you are quick to point out in your past posts that you followed the rules while at CPA. Why did everyone suddenly change after you left? Why not comment equally about the positive things coaches, and teachers at CPA do so you can be viewed as having objectivity? Without sharing both sides of the conversation, without some sort of proof like a letter or an email....you are insinuating wrongdoing with what I believe to only hearsay evidence. You have to have some type of proof to make these kinds of allegations and then have them hold up. I for one would gladly apologize to you in public and in person if any of your allegations are proven to be true. I'm not attacking you. But I am defending good people at CPA that have every intention of following the rules and doing the right things. I am questioning your motives after 8 years of consistently alleging wrong doing over and over again without providing proof or saying anything positive about the kids, coaches, teachers or administrators at CPA. You compared yourself to a reporter but even a reporter has a responsibility to report both sides of the story objectively. Also, many times reporters will recuse themselves from a story if they have a conflict of interest or even a perceived conflict of interest. Maybe you should do the same when it comes to anything involving CPA? I do wish you peace. I am praying for you in that I hope one day you will be able to let this stuff go and move on.
  2. Krbks, My answer to your question is you should direct that parent to the headmaster or to Bernard Childress at the TSSAA. Posting on Coach T and implying wrongdoing is not the correct answer.
  3. I will 2nd that. Have had several friends comment what a great crowd of fans the Cascade Champions have. They have two good teams as well.
  4. CPA did not forfeit a single game due to Blackwell playing. He was originally ruled eligible by the TSSAA then ruled ineligible after playing several games. No games were forfeited. It Was not CPA's fault. The TSSAA apologized for their mistake. They vacated one win due to playing a different kid for 20 seconds at the end of that one game. CPA made a clerical error based on when he was eligible. Kid was a role player. Great kid and family. Played one game early. Played in spots the rest of the season. No other forfeits or vacated wins. Nothing to hide. I've seen the letter of apology from Bernard Childress on the Blackwell situation. It was the TSSAA ''s mistake. Family and CPA complied with the ruling. Several extenuating circumstances you likely know nothing about. I'm not going to argue if the rules are right or fair with you. Only that they were followed to the letter. I just think for folks to insinuate much larger issues or wrongdoing is just wrong but it's a losing battle to post against it. This staff and admin talk directly to the TSSAA before doing anything. They are not intentionally breaking any rules. They made one clerical error that was documented. Their desire is to comply with every rule. I can promise you that.
  5. This is very close might be off by a year on 1 or two but pretty sure it's right. Richard came 7th Bonds in 8th Lindsey in 8th Allsmiller 9th Blackwell 8th Blackwell is soph so he was two years later. Rest are seniors. All legally enrolled by rules. None received special benefits. Some kids and families already knew each other prior to CPA through basketball. All looking for same thing. Great coaches and mentors. Great Oppty to play basketball and be coached well. I'm not saying anything you can't read in a tennessean article as far as timing. I'm just close enough to situation in a small close knit community to know rules were followed. I wont debate TSSAA rules. Just can state rules as they are written were followed. It's pretty common for a K-12 school to enroll kids in MS. Families like public school options in earlier grades. They look at best options for college prep as they prepare to enter HS. Evaluate academically , spiritually, athletically, socially and decide to enroll their kids after looking at options. CPA is a great value and about $10,000 less per year than some other private schools that offer financial aid. These are the kids people talk about but team is full of other kids that contribute and work hard. These are great kids from great families that do not deserve criticism. Many kids not mentioned came for same reasons these did and just love game of basketball, or some other activity like fine arts or soccer or baseball. Parents made same decisions these parents made. These kids just happen to be higher profile but are no different than others in how they made their decision. Others on the team that contribute have been there since K. Nothing to hide. No grand conspiracy.
  6. How did the Kenwood kid do against CPA? Wish I saw that game. I thinks Bonds and Allsmiller are a great 1-2 and they ended up at Liberty and Ga Southern mainly due to lack of size and strength required to be a mid or high major. It's so competitive to be a college player and even great coaches miss evaluate talent and heart about 20-25 percent of the time as evidenced by transfers after 1st year. Stallings whiffed on Bradshaw. He would be best SG at Vandy this year. Instead he's lighting it up against ACC and SEC for Rick Byrd at Belmont. Hope to see CC in the playoffs. Sounds like a great team. Wish success to both CC and Kenwood and these players mentioned.
  7. Krbks, Did you allow non CPA students attend your summer basketball camp? To my knowledge those have always been open. Maybe I'm wrong. What if a non CPA kid's parent asked you about attending CPA at camp? Did you tell them they couldn't come because they attended your camp? What if they asked you about the basketball program? I've seen first hand how those inquiries are handled at CPA because I've had kids in those camps and clinics and the rules are followed. I've seen it in baseball, basketball and football. I'm very familiar with some of the kids and the families that have come to CPA that you seem to refer to in your posts. I know first hand in one high profile transfer it was 100 percent the kid's parents seeking CPA. They applied and almost enrolled two years prior to when he actually transferred. They Didn't transfer initially because they felt pressured by other local folks in their community so he stayed on their community hs team initially. But Eventually they changed their minds and reapplied and pursued CPA hard. They were getting away from a bad coaching situation and wanted a great role model and mentor for their son. They knew the rules before they ever applied and followed them every step of the way as did CPA coaches and administrators. Bernard Childress was consulted every step of the way as well. People on the outside cried foul but those close to the situation knew it was the parents and the kid wanting and pursuing CPA. Kid was 4.0 student and model citizen and a great athlete. CPA was wise to accept the transfer and the young man is a great and loyal alum that speaks highly of CPA and coach Maddux. Regarding AAU... Coach Maddux coaches his daughters teams now in AAU or local tournaments. He does do camps and clinics through Nike Elite camps. A few other CPA coaches coach young AAU teams 6th grade and below which is all perfectly fine and within the TSSAA rules. So many non CPA kids benefit from this program and these teams. My child played on one and did not attend CPA at the time. There were only 2 CPA kids on that team. I see first hand where Coach Maddux and other CPA coaches are great role models and mentors to kids that will never attend CPA through camps and AAU teams. Their mission is so much bigger than basketball though. There are service projects, team building exercises, character training and more. And oh yeah... Great basketball coaching. They are great ambassadors for the game. That should never stop. There are so many bad youth coaches out there that parents flock to the good ones. The world needs good role models and coaches. I'm just disappointed when people criticize good ones because they win. I'm sorry Krbks but the innuendo and insinuations you make on here don't tell the real story. the real truth you claim to pursue is not what you portray on here. The real truth is quite the opposite. Coach Maddux is a man dedicated to helping others. Yes, some of his former AAU kids ended up at CPA but as other posters pointed out 75-80 percent of the kids on those teams don't attend CPA. Other schools benefited from the coaching and mentoring he gave them. If you care about kids and their development then do something positive like coach, teach, and mentor. Don't waste your time criticizing other coaches on a message board. I know first hand that your false claims and half truths hurt kids and their families. Why do you want to keep doing that? Is it vengeance you are seeking? Test yourself. It's been almost nine years of you doing this so it makes people wonder. You're protected by free speech and just the fact that others at CPA just lack any desire to engage with you. So you can keep going for 9 more years if that's what you want. It's your choice and right. I just think about all those hours you spend reading and posting and wonder what would happen if you used that energy to help young people again rather than hurt them. Do you ever think about that?
  8. Krbks, I have no problem admitting that great players make great coaches look good. That doesn't mean he is not a great coach though. In fact in some ways it affirms it since most of the great players at CPA chose to attend CPA in part due to the fact that he is a great coach and a good man and mentor. I remember CPA winning 20 games in Coach Maddux' 4th season with no future college players on the team. That year there were church teams in Nashville that had more talent than than CPA. It was possibly one of his best coaching jobs that year and they probably lost in the first round of the playoffs. I've seen enough of his practices and camps to know he is a great coach. I've seen his teams execute. I've watched young men play unselfishly playing for him. I've seen brash young middle schoolers grow into men of Godly character under him. That's plenty to support that he's a great coach in my opinion. You're entitled to disagree though. What I don't understand is why you continue to attack and criticize him, CPA's players , administrators, and families for going on 9 years now on Coach T? At what point will you feel the freedom to just let it go? At what point will you allow yourself to forgive people that hurt you and move on? You're a man of great talent and incredibly smart. Seems to me your passion and energy devoted to Coach T posting could be used for good in so many other areas of your life that would impact the Kingdom of God for good. There are so many other positive things you could be doing with your time that would help people in need. Coach a team of underprivileged youth or something like that. There are people that need your coaching abilities more than the readers on Coach T. May God Bless you and release you from this burden you must feel. I really mean that with all sincerity.
  9. Corn was a special player at Ensworth. It was apparent he made Ferby and Fleming better. They seemed a little pedestrian without him. As good as Lindsey was for CPA...CPA seems to be doing just fine without him. Not saying they wouldn't love to have had him back. CPA actually lost a lot players from last year including Lindsey, Spann, and Parker Howell (shoulder) but keeps on clicking. I'm amazed at how well guys like Sam Johnson, Andrew Manuel, Micah Davis and Ben Dreher are playing in their places. Then CPA has Allsmiller, Bonds and Richard as seniors....that's too many weapons for most teams to stop. Ensworth would focus on stopping Blackwell, Bonds and Allsmiller on D and then CPA would whip the ball around to a wide open Richard who would drive in for an easy bucket. Just too many weapons for Ensworth to stop. Ricky is an great coach but he didn't have the horses to keep up. But don't forget....Maddux is a great coach too and he had a great game plan to attack Ensworth inside where they were weak and when they packed it in CPA has the ability to kick it out for 3. Hard to defend both well. Also, it is apparent that Blackwell has the highest ceiling of any of the afore mentioned players. He is a true high major D-1 recruit. You will likely see him in the ACC or SEC playing meaningful minutes in huge games early in his college career. He's that good. He has all the tools and measurables and is so versatile as a player. He can literally play all 5 positions well. I really don' see anyone in AA giving CPA a serious challenge the rest of the way unless they get into serious foul trouble and have an incredibly off night from the 3 point line.
  10. I heard McPherson was hurt when they played CPA. No other info.
  11. I was pretty amazed at the original thread actually. It took Mephiis fans to recognize Coach Maddux as a great coach. I appreciate them for saying that. It Seems like most CPA and Maddux detractors try to claim they win on talent alone. Most people have never seen how hard they practice or grasp how hard some of the sets they run and execute with precision are to run. Not to mention how hard it is to get that many talented to players to play unselfishly. Personally, I don't think Coach Maddux gets enough credit. That's why I liked the thread that got deleted.
  12. Maddux has plenty of tricks now that he has his depth back. They didn't have the bench to do everything he would've done in a normal game against Brentwood. Add Richard and Manuel into the lineup and the defense just got a lot tougher.
  13. Coach Couey is coaching MS That MS team, specifically 7th grade, is very good. I would add there are a number of great athletes/basketball players in the high school that played in the past but are not playing basketball this year because of the lack of playing time on varsity with the large number of seniors. You could see some of those 10th graders go back out next year. They are the kind of kids/athletes that might start at a lot of other schools.
  14. I don't think anyone would want Parker to play if he risked further injury and not playing football. I'm sure he's had an MRI and consulted his doctor.
  15. Heard today that Howell and Richard both will return. Johnson and Manuel already playing. They could use another big rebounder inside and Howell would give them that. He has great hands and textbook footwork for a big man. His drop step is very good when he is fed the ball down low. Richard is a great player. He has started since he was in 9th grade. Didn't play in 10th due to injury. He adds great defense and rebounding. He can score plenty when its needed. Freakish athlete. Ready to see them play with this group. Watch out AA.
  16. I'm hearing from a lot of fans that they think CPA is better this season despite losing Lindsey and Coleman Spann. Sounds like Paul Adams won't play and Parker Howell is/was going to have his shoulder scoped again and will be out. Not sure how long. Manuel, Johnson and hopefully Richard will be the only FB players playing.
  17. CPA defeats Briarcrest 67-50. Someone who attended the game please give a report. Thanks in advance. All I know is Allsmiller 19. Blackwell 17. Bonds 11. Manuel 11. Sounds like 3 ball was falling for Allsmiller.
  18. Brentwood did a great job of slowing the game down and holding the ball. They made every possession count and held the ball longer than a minute in some cases. They have had the best gameplan to beat CPA so far. Other teams have played a similar up tempo style to CPA as TCB suggested and CPA has pulled away in the 2nd half when they up the defensive pressure while bombarding the basket on offense. It literally rains 3 balls and dunks at times from CPA. Also CPA has great half court offensive sets when forced to run them. They have multiple 3 point shooters that spread the defense. They also have a great penetrator in Bonds. Blackwell can do it all....post up, drive, rebound, clean up the boards with put backs or shoot from the outside. He's a complete player. CPA is a very hard team to defend. They also practice harder than any high school team I've ever seen. There are a lot of talented basketball players at CPA that choose not to play varsity in part because practice intensity and frequency is so physically demanding. They hold two a day practices at times, they have six am practices, go to summer camps as a team, etc. Coach Drew expects a lot from his players and works them hard to get better. Not all are willing to work that hard, but the ones who do get better and perform well. Some people try to suggest that Coach Drew is not a great coach which is far from the truth. He's a great coach, great developer of talent, and a great leader/mentor for kids. I've been very impressed this early part of the season with how well last year's reserves have performed in key roles as starters and first guys off the bench. It's a testimony to their hard work and development. The CPA style works but you have to have shooters that can drain shots and ball handlers and defenders to execute it. CPA has developed a very deep bench behind their three stars. When last years 11th and 12th players are starting and sometimes leading all scorers it's a testimony to hard work and great coaching. I have much respect for those kids and their coach.
  19. F5, BC, Alcoa72, goon, and gang, I'm not on a witch hunt. If you check my post history, I haven't attacked Alcoa personally or any of you posters personally. This was a thread to discuss the balance of power to the East. I suggested two things influenced this more than any other. 1.) the number of DII powerhouses in Middle Tenn that offer financial aid to top notch athletes, and 2.) Open Enrollment I merely asked questions about the open enrollment practice and the numbers behind it. I can't speak for all posters...can olnly speak for myself. But I do see far more mocking and personal attacks in your posts than in mine. My purpose was simply to ask questions and potentially point out an inequity that is leading to lopsided scores. Alcoa has a fine program with great coaches and athletes. You've done nothing wrong under the current system. But after winning something like 10 out of the last 13 state championships maybe it is time to start looking into the impact of open enrollment on the competitive landscape. If 36% of your students are out of zone then you are getting an advantage over other schools. Moving up one class would allow you to stay in the same district and keep the same schedule...you would just compete in a different playoff division in football. You would remain AA in all other sports. It's a suggestion. But you guys don't seem to like it. It is something the TSSAA should consider is all I am saying. Go back and look. I've made no personal attacks on any thread. In the meantime, CPA and other 3A schools need to work hard to find a way to compete until something changes. We lost by 18 this year. Your closest game in 3A by a longshot. We'll train and work as hard as anyone to make it a different outcome next year. Would love to hear Rankin's opinion on the subject. He seems like a competitor. Seems like he would welcome tougher competition in 4A but the reality is you would likely win the state championship there too. Good luck and best wishes until we see you next year!
  20. 964 students is 4A. Alcoa would be 4A and get that game with Fulton they've been wanting...unless Fulton is also open enrollment and also got bumped up. Ha! This makes too much sense which is why the TSSAA won't likely pass it. I'm honestly wondering why Alcoa fans wouldn't want it?? Don't hate. Give an honest response.
  21. Thanks ICM. According to their hometown paper the facts show more than 1 out if 3 students pay tuition to attend Alcoa. 36% That means we should expect about 8 out of the first 22 or 16 out of the two deep on the roster were out of zone. No way only 3-4 players out of 193 play football. But It only takes 1-2 good ones to make a huge difference anyway. This is the logic for the multiplier for privates. Same should apply to Alcoa. Take 536 students times 1.8 = 964 Is 964 students 4A or 5A? Either way Alcoa should play that classification going forward. Point made. No hate. Just facts and logic.
  22. I'm not against school choice. I Think parents and kids should be able to send their kids where they want to go. I'm not saying Alcoa did anything wrong. They played within the rules as they exist. They have a great team. They deserve their championship. But I am stating that the TSSAA should reclassify open enrollment schools going forward. The rule should simple be if kids from other cities and counties can attend your school For a fee/tuition then a multiplier should be applied just like the privates. If it's 300 schools or 10 schools those schools have an advantage and should have a multiplier. Metro Schools and smaller county schools where this advantage does not occur should petition the TSSAA for this change.
  23. No one man enough to post how many OOZ kids in the first 22 on each side? Silence is deafening.
