  2. Creek Wood's starters did not touch the floor. Harpeth played absolutely awful and the only reason they won is because Creek Wood received a technical for calling a timeout with none left. Creek Wood is going to be tough to beat in the tournament.

  3. McEwen can win this game, but they are the underdog. Because this isn't an elimination game, nerves will be less. McEwen definately showed some nerves in the MTCS game and I see them playing better in this game. Should be a great game, I see Hobson showing up major in this game. GOOD LUCK McEWEN!

  4. Camden beat Harpeth by 7. Johnson is 0-3 in region play. He has lost twice as a 1 seed to 12AA's 4 and once as a 2 seed to their 3. He's consistant. I don't think it's a lack of talent.

What is up with Harpeth? They never perform in the postseason. Going back even further than Johnson, they lost some some substate games they were favored to win. No one could have predicted all of these outcomes tonight. Especially Sycamore taking Bolivar to OT. I want to hear details about this game.

  5. I agree. Slowing the game down, especially against a team that likes to play kinda fast and a team that hasn't saw that all year, can be a huge advantage. I just didn't know if they took that long with their normal offense. When, they had the long possessions, they turned it over or McNairy jumped the pass. They ran the offense really well, just seemed when they took longer, they got a little sloopy. Are you post players Frosh and Soph also, it looks like you have some decent size.

Yeah most of the size are freshmen and soph post players. A few were dominate in Junior high and I think will be ready next year. We only lose 3 seniors this year. And there are no juniors on the team. Prince is sophomore and two of the leading scorers are freshmen. That offense did work well tonight, but sometimes it is frustrating to watch. You have to shoot to win the game. That's why I am such a girls basketball fan. There are so many tactics you can use to win games, regardless of speed, size, talent, etc.

  6. McNairy is better than what they played. They missed alot shots underneath that they usually make. They do have some outside shooting but Waverly's offense really made them try to speed things up. They made alot of bad passes trying to push the ball up court and forced alot of shots because Waverly took alot of time off the clock running their offense. I don't mean to take anything away from Waverly's Defense because they caused some turnovers with their trap. Is that Waverly's normal offense?

Waverly has a good young team and Katie Price( I think that's here name) is a really good player. You guys have some good 3pt shooters. Good Luck to Waverly next year.

I have not seen McNairy play this year, but it was obvious that Waverly's offense had them a little thrown off. They adjusted to it a lot better in the second half. Sometimes slowing down a good team is a huge advantage. Yes Waverly most always plays this offense. They do not have a true post and this is their way of making up for that. They have 4 girls that can hit the 3 all day long and they count on that. But yea I could tell McNairy was not operating at full potential. It was a good game for Waverly, but they usually have less than 5 turnovers in a game. I think both teams had 15-20.

  7. Waverly led 11-6 at the end of the 1st after McNairy started out up 4-0. McNairy led by 2 or 3 points at the half. McNairy led by as many as 7 in the 2nd half and Waverly tied the game a couple of times in the 2nd half. Each team had a ton of turnovers. Probably the most walks I've saw called in a game and a ton that did not get called.

What was the refs like in the other games? They were really bad in this game. They were the worst I have seen so far this year and we have some bad ones in our district.

    Anybody know the Camden/Harpeth score?

This was the most oddly officiated game I have ever seen. First you have nothing being called whatsoever in the first half. Then you come back after half time and the refs go on a walk-calling spree. I bet 20 walks were called in the 3rd quarter, some were, but most were not. Then you go into the fourth quarter and it's like a new game. No longer can you reach in, push off, or anything that they were letting go throughout the game. However, I was still okay at this point. But in the last minute of play the ball went out on McNairy's point guard and Waverly went to set up for the inbound and somehow it was still MC's ball. Maybe I missed something, but then the real kicker was the charge call on Prince. The only charge call of the game mind you.. and there was hardly any contact. Looked like the refs wanted to end they game. I enjoyed the game nonetheless. I think Waverly prolly went 70% from the field. McNairy has excellent defense and a couple solid guards.

  8. Yes, I'm definitely a Waverly fan. And I doubt that Waverly will get too heavy for her since they have a lot of good young players on the team. I looked at the roster the other day and counted 10 freshmen and sophomores on the team. So looks like the best is yet to come for the Waverly girls.

It is amazing that someone doesn't know me huh, redneck?

Not taking anything away from any player.. Collump and Prince are the only players on the team this year that had any prior varsity experience at all, whatsoever. They lose three seniors this year and no one next year. Like you said, they will get better. There are also some solid 8th graders coming from Lakeview next year. Waverly should be able to contend for the district title for the next few years.

On a side note, Prince does carry the team at times, but there is not one at Waverly Central High that the girls would rather have as their leader and go to player. Kati's load will lessen next year when she and the other players have improved. It will be interesting to see how much she dominates over the years with a more experienced solid team.

  9. I assume from the nickname your a Waverly fan? lol yes, Prince is a very good ballplayer, and yes, if she keeps maturing she can be better than Walker. She carries the team now. They might get too heavy for her.

You are so dumb and negative. Just stop posting /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />

  10. Well, this will be the last time these 2 districts will get together. I've enjoyed some of the disagreements with some of the posters over the past few years /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> . I hope everyone who is taking the long road trips has a safe one.

Let's hear some predictions. Here are mine.

    Harpeth over Camden by 8

    McNairy over Waverly by 12

    Southside over Cheatham by 5

    Bolivar over Sycamore by 18

    Waverly over McNairy by 4

    Cheatham over Southside by 6

    Bolivar over Sycamore by 20

    Harpeth over Camden by 7

  11. I've always been a Waverly fan other than when you play Harpeth. I know several people from that area and one of the coaches there went way out of their way to help one of my children so I'll always be thankful for that. Extremely proud of the Lady Indians and what a second half performance. Good win for Waverly also, but now it looks as if we might match up for the 4th time in the region semifinals. Will be hard to beat you 4 times. How is Camden? Congratulations to all the teams and best of luck in the regions.

Camden is a slightly above average team. Waverly split with them during the season, but there is a huge rivalry factor between these two schools, I think that always makes a difference in play. Harpeth should beat them, but should in no way overlook them. If Camden gets hot from the shooting field it is tough to keep up, but they lack in defense. Harpeth is a more solid team.

  12. There is certainly the possibility of WHH beating Community ( anyway I really like NeWbLuE, enoyed sitting with you at out District Tourney ), Forrest certainly should handle East Robertson, now IF the game is between WHH and Forrest ( if they both win their home openers), I wold have to pick Forrest by 10....also if Community beats WHH, I would have to pick Forrest..............now on the other side of the bracket MTCS should handle Houston County and win pretty easily, I see the McEwen, VB game as being the best chance of a win by 10A, but then if McEwen wins, they run smack into MTCS and I honestly think MTCS is the stronger team here.....as we all know this is Tourney Time and anything is possible, but I really think it should be Forrest and MTCS again contending for the Region Championship and a Sub-State berth....now Clarkrange will be at state no doubt and any team that makes it that far is going to run into a raging buzzsaw (for lack of a better term), they will be tough to beat by ANY A team in the state, but hey 3 years ago, Forrest was the dark horse against two 7A teams, RBS ( who had beaten Forrest by 20+ earlier in the year) and JC, who EVERYONE thought would win State and guess what WE WON STATE!!!!! My point is...... anything is possible this time of year, let's play some great basketball, no injuries, and Good Luck to all the teams and of course.....................GO LADY ROCKETS!!!!!!!

I say the first round goes 2-2, With Forrest and MTCS being blowouts, and McEwen and WHH being close games. The next game will be the test for McEwen. How bad will they want to beat MTCS?, because they can if they bring everything to the table. Like I said earlier, McEwen did not play an intensive schedule and that will hurt them in the post season.

  13. There are a few things I have learned over the years from Cheatham Co High School's girls' basketball program.

    1. You may never count them out.

    2. No matter what the talent level, they will still win ~20 games in a given season.

    3. They play better in high stress, do or die match-ups.

    4. If you get ahead of them by more than 10pts. They lose composure.

With that being said, I am changing my original prediction to Cheatham. I do think Harpeth has the most raw talent in the district, but the seniors of Cheatham Co. have the drive. Look for both of these teams to host a sectional game.

    Cheatham by 4.

As for the consolation game... If Bliss is playing, how much of a difference will she make? Judging by semi-final performances, I say Waverly takes it and travels to McNairy Central.

    Waverly by 4.

Does anyone see Waverly or Sycamore winning Friday night when they travel west? Waverly faced Bolivar last year in a close game, but that was a completely different team. The top 3 from 12AA each have good records, but does that matter during tournament time? 4 Seed Camden isn't bad when they are firing on all cylinders.

  14. If winning five games in a row, beating two of the top four in your district (including your beloved Cheatham Co.), finishing tied for second in the district (when most felt they would do good to finish seventh), and play Harpeth to an even score with four minutes to go is luck then so be it. For whatever reason you feel the need to insult the young ladies from Waverly. If you had a clue you would know that this is a team with almost no experience (13 of the 16 players are 10th or 9th graders) including 9 freshmen. It would appear to me we are talking about a team that has worked for what it has gotten like all other successful teams. It is fine to feel one team is better than another but to fail to give credit where credit is due shame on you. One who is not clueless recognizes their own teams success and the success of you opponent. You should try it sometime. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Excellent post. This team has done far better than expected and I would not count them out yet.

  15. Cheatham by 5

I see Waverlys luck ran out.

Game was tight the whole way. Harpeth is a good team and will go far in the region tournament. They will beat Cheatham in the final.

  16. Totally agree with you. As I have said in the past this is the weakest this district has ever been. Very disappointed in the Indians performance tonight, but I've been disappointed the past few years. I think we now finish in fourth and get a trip to Bolivar. Creek Wood avoided the upset tonight as I thought Waverly played a good game. We don't match up well with Waverly and I've thought all along that Waverly has as much or more talent than most teams in the district, but for whatever reason they keep underachieving. However, I'm afraid the Indians can start dusting off the baseball gloves in a few days.

I do think Waverly has the best all-around raw talent in the district, but they can rarely make it all come together. One reason may be their size or the fact that they don't have a true "go to" player. I see them sending Harpeth to Bolivar, which would be a nice change for Waverly.
