I think the point everyone seems to be missing is this: You don't always get to play for the coach of your choice! No one said Rick Martin isn't a good coach or that they didn't have a good program. There are a lot of excellant teams and fantastic coaches in this state, but you don't get to choose who you play for. If every "talented" basketball player in this state "moved" so that they could play for the "best" coach or team, girls basketball would be irreversably damaged. Don't forget the "average" player who may get bumped from a position by someone "moving". How many average players have grown into great players because of the opportunity to play and improve. At what point are we as fans, parents and coaches going to say ENOUGH! We seem to forget that there is more to the sport than winning a state title. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a state title banner hanging in our gym, but a what cost?
In my opinion a truly great coach is one who year after year takes what they are given and creates a winning team. That is who I would want my child playing for.
