What I find funny is how long this post has been up and only 1 or 2 people comment but then I mention the lack of information or effort to input results and everyone comes to respond. All I’m saying is don’t act like I’m supposed to have all the rankings accurate if the information is not out there to provide info for the rankings.
I have literally posted an email on the rankings I did last year for information purposes to help with rankings nobody responded so I have continued doing the rankings with the information that is provided on track. If you want a girl noticed and given respect then get the information out there. Until then agree with them or not but I can explain my reasons for who is ranked where at any point. If you are undefeated yet have wrestled no hard competition then it’s going to be hard to make the rankings in my book.

I will speak for myself. I’m not involved with rankings nor do I care to be. When you put your stuff out there for the world to see you should expect some criticism. Take the criticism with a grain of salt and keep posting your opinion. If every time someone disagrees with you and you get upset about it it just adds fuel. Just ignore them and keep posting. If by the end of the season you are correct and they are not then so be it.

I will add a little something by saying girls programs don’t spring up over night. They start small and gradually build from there. It is very difficult to get girls mat time when you only have a couple and you can only find Saturday events for them.  As a boys coach primarily I find what I can for the girls when we have them. We are fortunate to have 3 coaches so when we do have a girl competing we can get her mat time and it is usually as a member of another team as wrestling in girls duals are not realistic or you only do Saturday tournaments. Some programs can’t afford additional coaches so it leaves one man to do both. Do you see the problem?
In retrospect, arguing about it with someone else isn’t going to make it better and permitting your self to be antagonized will only raise your blood pressure. Keep doing what you are doing but expect a little criticism. Who cares what others think.

Right like the tournaments on the east side literally have less then 40 girls show up to them. It can’t be too hard to run a tournament on track with 40 girls. I’m sure it’s the lack of coaches who don’t care about their 1-3 girls in their program so they don’t care to take them to girls only tournaments when a varsity tournament for boys his being held somewhere else.
Or the coaches who hold a girls tournament but promote it for only 15 days notice for other teams to go to it.
there is literally a spreadsheet for tournaments and yet some tournaments are not on there but are promoted on coach T 2 weeks before the tournament.

Attacking the coaches surely won’t help your cause or your argument.

I wish more coaches would enter results on track.  If it is that much of a burden, have a manger do it.

It is the responsibility of the head Coach to enter the data onto track. Not the manager.

Bryan Knepper. But i dont remember him doing any sort of rankings.

Yes that is his name. He did it during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.
I found one from 2005-06 while doing a little research. Can’t find the others but I remember sending him data those two seasons.

Thanks!  I noticed that Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and a few other states do both a ranking by division and then an overall rankings (combined public & private)  for each weight classification.  I seems like someone did that in the past for Tennessee but I may be wrong.

Would that have been the former coach of MTSU who moved to Toledo? Can’t remember his name. It was under TWA. Maybe it was called Tennessee Wrestling Association or something along those lines.

I’m not trying to dog the kid as a person. I’m just telling you how I seen it during the game. He got pushed all over the field. Maybe he’s had better games and was just having a bad game, but he got pushed up and down that field by numerous players. Simple as that.

Perhaps it’s time to move along to this weeks game and put last Friday to rest.

I'm glad that someone started this topic.  I absolutely believe that sports can play hand-in-hand with helping another.  At Fairview the Football program has won 100 games since the start of the 2010 season (100-33 Overall) during that 11 year run of success.

Most schools offer Basketball during the Winter and Baseball/Soccer during the Spring.  At some schools if "Football players" don't excel at those sports then they begin the off-season weight program in January upon returning from Christmas Break.  Our Basketball and Soccer programs have been highly successful in past years.  Our Baseball program just experienced one of the school's most successful seasons.

The majority of our Football players compete in Wrestling during the Winter and then run Track and Field during the Spring.  Fairview High School has produced State Champions and competed for State Championships at both sports biggest stages and we've had several players attribute their growth and progress as Football players to what they did in other sports seasons.

I feel like a lot of coaches nowadays cringe at the thought of "their players" being actively involved in other sports.  At Fairview, for those who have seen, our weight room is a tremendous facility for a high school program and our head strength and conditioning coach is one of the best in the business.  The players who do attend off-season workouts from Day 1 will grow and progress as athletes.

At the same time though our other sports programs (Basketball, Wrestling, Track and Field, Soccer, Baseball, Etc.) are also a big part of our team's growth from one year to the next and they all play a role in watching our guys progress as athletes.

Actually this subject has been broached more than once but every time it gets shot down by people that really don’t want to believe the truth. I’m glad he brought it up and hopefully he will not end up with the same response I got every time I did.

Kids and parents need to understand just how much Wrestling enhances a football prospects resume, rankings and recruitment by D1 coaches.  James Howard’s overall recruitment has been greatly enhanced by his wrestling resume. Same goes for Parker Peterson who has already reported to Tulane.  Lance Williams recruitment is being heavily influenced by his wrestling background.  The list goes on and on.

College coaches especially D1 coaches really like big lineman who have a wrestling background.
I think as a sport we really do a poor job of communicating that fact to our big kids across the state at a young age.

Pitch it on the football boards.

Brent Dorris coached 7-8 grade last season and is not on staff at the school.  If they are not going to go outside the current staff then the only person on staff that deserves the job is Greg Cotton. He would be a great choice but I am just not sure what the rest of the Goodpasture Community will think about it.  If given a shot he will do well. Goodpasture will take a step back this season but by all indications, Cotton is doing a fantastic job of recruiting current students.  Goodpasture has to get their numbers up before success can be had.

I agree. He’s a great motivator and the kids love him. Kids will give more of themselves immediately to someone they love, respect and believe in than someone they aren’t familiar with. It takes a lot of time and work to get kids to buy into your system but if you are already there half the battle is over.

What about the former Sycamore HC?

Why not Coach Cotten? He’s in the building, he has a great relationship with the kids and he expects discipline. He is a great motivator and he has his wrestling team heading in the right direction by having football players wrestle. Seems like a no brainer. Hey Principal Dearing, can you hear this?
