  1. He was offered job in 2006:

"At the end of the 2006 season, Brentwood Academy, a nationally known prep school in Nashville, Tennessee, contacted White about becoming their head coach. He visited the school, went through the interview process and was offered the job. “It was a great school, and it would have been very beneficial financially,†said White, “but it would have been a big change for me and my family.â€

New coach for BA, new era for BA.

Thats very interesting that they turned him down in 06, he goes and has a 58% win percentage(check my math, 34 - 24, 34/58 = 58% right?) in TX in the interim, and now he's their man. It certainly does seem to be a new era for BA. Guess they gave up on catching up to Ensworth.

Good luck to you Coach White.

  2. Hey smart guy...were you around in 1995? How would you know what was needed at that time? Parents not involved with the kids' school and life has led to the inner-city problems. In 1995 Brentwood had a coach the was a good guy but was in over his head. As example after a particular game where the opposition ran a particular play he was asked why we did not make an adjustment. He stated there was no need to make an adjustment as the other coach will make a counter adjustment and you are back where you started. Yes the parents asked for a change and got it. If you will read ALL of my statement you will notice I said the coach dictated the parental involvement and it was constantly monitored with him. We asked them what we could do to allow them more time to do the important part of their job. We took over lining the field, mowing, etc. We handled the fund raising so they didn't have to hound the kids to raise the money. At the time the only parental involvement was a few, not many, of the parents came on Friday night. We only had an 8 page program so some of the parents got the paper and print time donated, lined up a photographer, and sold the ads. Prior to this "involvement" Brentwood wa 2-18 in 1995 and 1996....since then they have several regional championships, a state championship, and has been to the playoffs every year. There has only been 2 coaches during that time and Crawford was the senior coach in the county so the "parental involvement" was not too big a burden. Maybe you need to learn the difference between involvement and support.

What in the world does this have to do with inner city problems?

I think you need to heed your own advice. Every time you talk, coaches cringe more and more.

" Prior to this "involvement" Brentwood wa 2-18 in 1995 and 1996....since then they have several regional championships, a state championship, and has been to the playoffs every year." You really are taking credit for BHS success because of parental involvement? Way to save the program. Doesnt sound like you need a coach at it...you need a PTO president in charge of football. Great coaches are really going to jump at this job!

And dont get me wrong, you will get a good coach, but you wont get a great one.

  3. My information comes from one of the 4 prople that was on that committee, and the committee that hired Crawford......me. My info is pretty accurate. At no time did Ron say he did not allow input but since he was at Hillsboro you could tell he did not cherish it. The biggest concern with Ron was he was dedicated to the wing T and we had Whittemore and company in the wings. If Jack D had not accepted Ron would have had the opportunity. I'm not sure he actually wanted it since we had to send him messages 3 times to get him to even apply. It is the coach's responsibility to dictate how much parental involvement is wanted/allowed and it is the parent's responsibility to stay within that boundry. We were very careful to stay that course with Jack and Ron Crawford's initial years. The big problem with Brentwood prior to Jack was actually NO parental involvement or interest.

So the parents of Brentwood are not too involved...uhhh...right...

If I'm a prospective coach and i read this, I don't even consider this job.

  4. Fact: Aydellott was on the list to be interviewed when Daniels was hired (1 of 3 who applied; but never was seriously considered, and the impression was he never seriously considered the job. He was not interviewed when Crawford was hired.

Fact: BHS parents, nor the booster club, have a sense of entitlement towards the football program. They have traditionally been engaged and supportive of whatever the program needs. Boundries are set and seldom crossed. Crawford, Daniels, or any member of the coaching staff will support that statement.

And despite Williamson County's status as the 17th wealthiest one in the country, my experience is there is no tangible connection that statistic and what ever happens with the program. They are no more or less concerned about their son's playing time or what type of offense/defense is run, or what the uniforms look like than any other school's parents. The relative enthusiasm for contributing to needs for the schools above and beyond what is required is a hallmark of all the schools that feed into BHS; from the elementary level through high school.

Fact: BHS or Franklin never regularly scheduled BA or any other privates, nor were they compelled to play them at anytime: pre-or post Carlton Flatt. Scheduling is all about relationships, and during Crawford's tenure, Rutherford County teams were the regular out of district opponents- not the privates.

Opinion: The three premier (by tradition)programs in Willco are BA, BHS, and Franklin- in that order. BA is more concerned with Ensworth than BHS. Good stable programs, atmoshphere, opportunities, and academics attract players. Public education is not for every family. BHS holds their own quite nicely against the competition.

Fact: you just proved correct everything I said about Brentwood parents

Fact: Brentwood parents think that putting the word Fact in front of something makes it so

Fact: Brentwood will get a lot of applicants, but it is not the great job Brentwood parents think it is

Fact: There is no pre Carlton Flatt era for BA

Fact: Brentwood high school has never beaten BA

Fact: you are too close to the situation and too blinded by loyality to see the problems

Opinion: homers, including you, should probably shut up when someone with an outside and probably clearer perspective shares it and gives you an opportunity to learn something about your own school.

Fact: you will respond in a negative, condescending, entitled, homer centered manner and you will prove this final Fact correct for me.

  5. While I agree with a lot of what you say, I disagree with some of it too. BA going DII is as much as what helped Brentwood and Franklin improve as anything. BHS and FHS didnt have to play them any more and their programs, records, and self pride got a lot better for it. Its a stretch to say Franklin is a premier program when they have never won a state championship, do not have a supportive principal, and exhibit consistent classless behavior. BA and BHS, yes. They are great programs and a great job for any coach to get. Donnie has his work cut out for him at Franklin. I hope he rises to the challenge and gets some respect back for Franklin. Until the principal goes, he wont make a lot of headway on that front. He will win games, but the respect for the school and the program wont be there.

From both reading between the lines of what Crawford has said, as well as knowing a thing or two about Williamson county, I would not call Brentwood a premier job either. He made it very clear that the issue is more of Williamson county. What that translates to is lower coach's pay, more class demands, no athletic period for football players. At to that the griping and complaining of a lot of entitled thinking parents and a dwindling supply of athletes because of the privates close by, this job is not so great either. Someone said Brentwood is going to have 50 or more seniors next year. That is a nightmare scenario if not handled perfectly. Who wants pushy, entitled parents griping and complaining because their 18 year old is standing on the sideline the entire game when they think he is the best on the field? At Brentwood, you will have about 40 sets of those parents. And having gone to a couple of Brentwood games, the fan support is pretty weak. They dont have big crowds at all. From what I could tell of how many left at half time in a good close game, there were more there to watch the band than the football game.

Brentwood is not the easy/ cushy/ great job a lot of people think it is. Good program, but not a great job. The next coach wont last more than 2 seasons. You don't want to be the man to replace the "man." The replacement never does well when the outgoing coach has done so well and is so well thought of. Real coaches with wisdon and experience will want to be the guy that replaces Crawford's replacement. And most of those will not want to put up with the Williamson County bull. Has everyone forgotten how badly the hire for Ravenwood went last year? And they are a very similar school to Brentwood. Yikes.

  6. I have closely watched Tennessee football since 1995 and have seen many games during that time. I came to the board to post concerning the actions of Franklin's number 64 last night and the first thing I saw was this previous post justifing what I thought was the most unsportsman like actions I have ever witnessed in all my years of watching football. As the precious poster states the Brentwood QB was hit several times on option plays.....by #64. The problem being he was hit 2-3 seconds after pitching the ball, several yards from the action, and in the back. Only the third time it happened was it called. It was the most cowardly act I have seen on a football field and if it was sanctioned by the coaching staff they should be fired and Franklin put on probation.

Franklin High School = no instituitional control, in the building, in the student section, on the field. Franklin is very good at denying and hiding their problems, but not solving them.

Poetic justice is that they are playing a team in the playoffs that is much tougher and if the dirty play starts, Smyrna will eat Franklins lunch with it.

  7. Really kid...? If you actually do play in any of these games you need to shut your mouth and focus on the game. If you sit on the bench (that would be my guess) you have no business talking smack anyway...

Kind of funny how you hang around the Franklin boards so often and continuously throw out there about the student behavior... Dude get over it. They're high school kids. The stupid pranks Franklin pulled this year are far from the things that have come out of Centennial over the past several years (theres are reason there is only one public school in WilCo who has to wear "uniforms").

Good luck to Franklin tonight. Should be a good game. IF they can stay focused and somehow find a way to be disciplined they should walk away with a W. If not Brentwood will surely walk out of there with the W.

Hoping both teams stay healthy tonight!

Franklin has the worst behaved students I have seen in a long time. Independence runs a very close second. I haven't seen anything but positive and appropriate behavior from Centennial in the games I have seen. I admit, its only a couple CHS games.

Franklin students are foul mouthed, so are the Indy kids, but at least the Independence kids know when to cheer. Cant say as much for the Franklin kids.

Good luck to both teams tonight.
