  1. IMO- appointing Potter as AD was a serious blocker to Flatt being able to influence the program in any way. I saw Coach the other day- looked in very good health and energy. With him living right next to the school- he is bound to play a bigger role. what part do you not see happening? Flatt as AD, current assistant as HC, or former BA quarterback as HC?
  2. Good post. Also, TSSAA has more playoff games in 8 divisions partially because it generates more TSSAA revenue. Barbecuing a unicorn- funny!
  3. With Coach Flatt involved in the decision, I still think he would look hard at one of his former quarterbacks or one of the current assistants. No better way to get back our roots than to get Coch Flatt's influence back in the program. I think getting Coach back in the middle school program was the 1st step. With all of these young coaches at BA, I forsee Coach getting much more involved back in the program to help mentor these guys. Not as a HC- but possibly as an AD.
  4. If this is the case, then what about individual sports? If a D2 athlete is the fastest athlete in the state, yet wins D2, do you still call him a conference champion? No, they are a state champion. Unclassified sports, or a true playoff would determine the best- but who has the time or patience. After a couple years of the egos, everyone will be back to classifications anyways. There is plenty of honor winning state in anything.
  5. D2 is a whole different ballgame than the public schools. It is almost not fair to compare the two on large team sports. There is plenty of honor in winning a title in 1A-6A, why do people always want to unnecessarily compare the two?
  6. Any highlights from the parents meeting? Please dont share anything meant to be kept within the family- just looking for overall topics.
  7. Agreed- uhhh public school poster dude.....that chapter has been written. Check out the BA history book, combined with Baylor, MUS, McCallie, MBA and Ryan. It wasn't pretty- especially in unclassified sports for the public schools in most cases.
  8. I hear a lot of good things about Coach Pittman. What is his background, and what makes him a strong candidate? Sorry, I have recently returned to the area after being away 20 years.
  9. I think gofans was saying that Potter was giving a strange backhanded compliment of McCallie's values in the paper unfortunately at the expense of demeaning the values of what he experienced at BA. He alluded to it as an opportunity to get closer to his personal mission. Not sure that is what gofans meant- but that is how I took it.
  10. With 2 posts promoting Brian in less than 12 hours, I humorously assumed it was Brian doing the posts himself. I know it wasn't Brian- it was just a (very) sad attempt at humor. It looks like he is doing a fine job encouraging, growing and unifying the Centennial program- all due respect to anyone taking on the role of a high school coach to mold these young men. GG85
  11. Brian, I would go to the website to apply. www.brentwoodacademy.com.
  12. Good post! That's the BA I know, similar stories through the years of many that played in college, many that didn't- yet played way over their forecasted capability. Too many to list- I bet there are many of these at the school currently as well that need to be recognized more or given an opportunity.
  13. BA has never been about bragging about your pedigree. It is about earning everything you get and getting the most out of your God given talents to His glory. You proudly cleaned your school out of pride and respect. You have key milestones along the way such as making your first travel squad, getting to ride on the bus versus the van, or earning your Red practice jersey- which signifies you earned every step of the way. The first starting lineup- wow. You pray and remember Alma mater after wins and losses, you seek the higher meaning in every test, lcompetition, event. You learn to give things to God and You never took anything for granted- ever. To put BA in a box simply means you don't get it. Many of our parents gave up everything financially so we could have the chance to learn from these teachers and coaches. Parents still drive almost 100 miles each day and work night jobs to make this happen. The stories are amazing of the sacrifices- that's the BA I know and believe In. I now have further clues to why there was such a culture mismatch. In Nashville, there is a place for talking about endowments and scholars down off Harding at MBA- but I never hear them talking about it. They also have our respect and compete with class and fortitude. You might be more welcome on their boards comparing your accolades (even though McCallie doesnt come close to matching up) But keep your self promotion to yourself, and comparing BA to another school with a few bullet points is insulting to us that have been around a while.
  14. Just hoping for some kind of stability for the seniors- another firing would be tough right now IMO. Don't make a fire mid-season- if they needed to replace the coach it should have been done after last season. Let me preface this by saying I am not close to the basketball team, or the inner situations. From an outsider pov purely.
  15. Yes, someone ought to change the title if they feel led. School has 2 critical positions (Head FB and AD) to fill and we need to get behind our existing coaches- including our basketball coach, who I might add is a quality alumni with a family with deep roots in school and community. Just a friendly request, but I know this is free speech and place to voice opinions
  16. Jeff Brothers is an outstanding man. Regardless if he gets chosen, he is a leader of men- with a personality and drive that is highest quality. As my QB in 88', i would run through a brick wall for him. One of my favorite people in the world, personally and professionally. I remember his 1st snap as a QB as a 145 lb junior, and saw him excel at the SEC level- at a position he never played in HS. Perennial overachiever, even from a young age. Not trying to make this a Brothers commercial- nor trying to set him up criticism- just wanted to say he is one hIgh quality person.
  17. I must say I was taken back by the comments in both the Nashville and Chattanooga paper. Blogs are a good vehicle to anonymously compare thoughts, viewpoints and feelings on subjects we feel passionate about. I agree they should be respectful, but hopefully people with common goals can have conversation in a common room without judgement or personal attacks on anyone, including coaches. I think we fully agree there were many good things that h occurred over the last 5 years, which comes with the job. He is obviously an outstanding man that never would have been hired if he wasnt outstanding. Much respect to he and his family for their service to our school. It is not an easy job for both coach and family. It does feel good, however, to know there will be a new chapter in our book that will unify and move our program forward.
  18. Well- good to look forward! Too many great BA kids at stake than to worry about the new McCallie coach. Hope the search goes well that will bring our program up to the top level in this challenging league- will definitely take the right hire to attract talent, install the right systems, rally alumni and parents, and get back to winning c-ships
  19. It makes me wonder, however, how excited an outsider such as Rutledge or Rankin would be living up to Coach Flatt's legacy. Maybe it is like Notre Dame, where the prestige is so high the honor of coaching the Eagles would be enough. However, it could be like coaching the Dallas Cowboys as well . The good news is that the school has some outstanding minds- and we have had several experiences trying things different ways after Coach Flatt retired. History taught us some valuable lessons. I am confident the right call will be made. It would be nice if the school would ask input- even if it were a mere formality.
  20. I think the school needs to stabilize the Athletics Director, Football, as well as solidifying Track after Harper retired. Wow, this is a big challenge for seniors.
  21. What is the possibility of Coach Flatt back as Athletic Director with a different head coach? Also, any former QB of the Eagles would be welcome for me. Kent Austin would be ideal, Jeff Brothers is an outstanding coach and man(turned around a NCS program quickly- and knows talent a la Golden Tate) Mike MacIntyre would be obviously welcome, John Patton would be a possible assistant? Trust me, I know nothing about who would be the best- for I am not an expert in 15-18 year old kids and the current situation needed of the school. I am just seeing people's thoughts of the former QBs bringing it back. Also, who is leading the track program now that Harper has retired?
