  1. Croz, how bout an honest to goodness evaluation of the team so far; i.e. bigger, faster, stronger? Have they had any scrimmages amd/or 7 on 7's, if so, how did they do? Will they be able to replace Vincent @ wideout? Are all 23 seniors (back on the team) working hard? Any new wrinkles this year or is the offense still the I and base 50 D? Lastly, if its even possible between seasons, has the team matured any as far as composure is concerned?
  2. I'm ready for a great seaon that will hopefully end in a championship. At least I'm praying it does because I'm tired of my wife referring to my team as the "choking tigers".
  3. I have had sleepless nights since the end of last season while looking forward to this years team. I dont get alot of news because of where i live but i ran across a post on another site that said Mccoy is no longer on the team. Is this right? I guess it was wishful thinking to hope all 23 seniors would be contributing this year, but you hate hearing news that such an important part might be missing.
  4. Not sure when the voting for Mr. Football is over but you could put together a 10 minute (mr. Football or college) highlight reel just from Tyler Coen against the next 1a sate champ. Coen was in the pirate backfield all night. Made a ton of tackles and on O, was hands down the best blocking lineman of them all. When he pulled, to lead a run, he put a world of hurt on some people, all night long. That is one junior that deserves to be the winner of the mr. Football award. Dominating, just ask those two 300 + pound tackles from South Pitt!
  5. Congrats to Friendship from a Gordonsville alum. Ill be rooting for you next week. Represent the 4!
  6. I had visions of 21 to 20 dancing in my head only to have that balloon burst. Congrats to south pitt in their precursor state championship tonight. You definitely won the war, but we did win the battle between class a lineman finalists. I thought Coen proved tonight that he is head and shoulders (literally) above blevins. Enjoy your championship next week and keep it warm for us for next year.
  7. I expect to look across the field tonight during warmups and see the pirate fans in awe, but remember this, "THOU SHALT NOT COVET THEY NEIGHBORS KICKER!" I have a feeling tonight that you're going to wish you had one.
  8. FRA was in 1986 in second round in a sleet storm so this guy doesn't know as much as you and I Oldtiger. Also, I heard today that Coach Marshall will be on TN Prep Weekly tonight on 1045thezone.com at 8:00pm How long did it take you to look that one up? Yea, im sure that you are head and shoulders above me in football knowledge. At my age, i get a pass on which year, what happened. I was just trying to prove i wasnt a west jasperite.
  9. SP 56 Gordonsville 14 Bahahahahaha! Really? Hahahaha!
  10. Fyi, Gordonsville had more "visiting" fans last week than Eagleville. And supposedly everyone in eagleville was at the game. Friendship may do the same to you this week.
  11. If you were around in 84 then ill tell you a couple things from a couple games from around that time that only someone that was there would know. In the 87 playoff game against Greenback, TE Eric Manning missed a stinking wide open pass over the middle that wouldve won the game and sent us to another championship game. Then the next yr's playoffs at FRA was one of the coldest games i can remember. A fan of another team wouldnt have known those little nuggets.
  12. Well, great. I am a loyal tiger fan and ready to see a great game friday night. Ive been super pumped about this one. I'll have to admit i was a little nervous last week facing an undefeated team, eagleville, but this week i know exactly what to expect. Game on!
  13. No one reveals their name. I was hoping that the info conveyed would show that im not an imposter. Are you from Gordonsville? Did you not recognize those names? Lets just say this, i have probably averaged seeing 8 ghs football games per year for a good 30 years.
  14. Brad Cowan Terry Manning Jamie Angel Etc Etc. Not an impostor!
  15. From another Tiger fan, who happens to live in Lebanon, good luck to the Commanders. Hopefully, we can both represent in Cookeville next weekend! Go Friendship and GO TIGERS!
  16. In all sincerity, both teams have explosive players on offense and defense. Each also have great coaching staffs. The only obvious advantages are home field advantage and kicking game to Gordonsville. Anyone who picks a blowout in this game, in either direction, is a fool. I have a ton of respect for this rivalry. As a matter of fact, i just finished writing a kids book where i reference the Gordonsville/South Pitt games. Coming to an Amazon near you.
  17. Croz, that's how you get West Jasperites to kiss and make up. Have a nice day!
  18. I just hope you're prepared for a rude awakening. No rattling the cages necessary this year. Its put up or shut up time. Nothing we say or do will change the fact that your journey ends Friday. Enjoy Thanksgiving because Friday is going to be a long, sad day for your team and its fans.
  19. FINALLY, the Tigers have come back to the semi's. Football fans, this isn't your every day, ordinary Tiger team. As a fan, over the past 12 years of meetings between Gordonsville and South Pittsburg, I always had hope but was always unsure whether or not the team had the confidence to get the job done. As honest as I can be, this is the Tiger's year. I have no reservations whatsoever, that this is the team to get the job done. Not only this week but next, as well. To my South Pitt brethren, this Tiger team is about to show you that, contrary to what you might think, you are indeed in a rebuilding year! And while you sit there watching your team get dismantled right before your very eyes, remember this, you will see an even better Tiger team across the field from you next year. Buckle up those chin straps boys, because you're gonna need it. With all due respect, we have the better team this year. Gordonsville's offense is ranked second to only Grace Christian (remember them?), and there are no weak spots on defense. I even like our chances in a close game because South Pitt has shown all year that they will give up points on special teams, either by way of missed two point conversions or lack of a kicker. Gordonsville will capitalize on any and all special teams gaffs that you want to give us. Someone earlier in the thread picked South Pitt by 3, well i hope you weren't counting on a field goal to be the deciding difference? The part that takes Gville forever to adjust to every year is that blasted 3-4 defense. It's not personel, we match up better at most positions on the field, it's that blasted scheme. But this team is ready to take it to you this year. Blevins this, Blevins that, blah, blah, WELCOME TO TEAM FOOTBALL, TIGER BALL! I am so ready for this one! It is about time that you get to take the trip of shame back home, for a change. Welcome to the jungle baby! And have a safe trip, both ways.
  20. From what i understand, per the Herald article, Eagleville is a mirror of us, package-wise. They also run the I with a base 50 D. One big difference that seems to be a point of emphasis, in the newspaper articles, is the difference between their I offense and ours is that, we look to score on every play from anywhere on the field, and Eagleville is all about ball control. They 4 and 5 yard you to death. If we let them play their kind of game, we'll only have limited possessions. That's what doomed Columbia Academy. Eagleville marched down the field and killed clock, while CA didn't take advantage of what chances they had. That game could've just as well been 21-21 if not for turnovers. All that I can gather on the Eagleville team, from a fans point of view and with no video of them, is that they go as their qb goes. Stop or contain the qb, and you're 3/4 of the way to shutting them down. He's their workshorse on offense and defense. Has almost 1,400 yds from scrimmage rushing, not as effective passing (averages about 5 to 6 passes a game). If this game goes like I think it will, GHS will key on the Jernigan boy and Eagleville will have probably put in some wrinkles in their O-package to offset the barrage of blue, just in case we are better at stopping him than they thought we'd be. If you start seeing gimmick plays, early and often, it could be their best chance of beating us.
  21. After reading the newspaper article on Eagleville, I had two thoughts. 1. The article just described the atmosphere that has surrounded Gordonsville football for at least the 34 years that I've been around it. 2. they had to get this article out of the way before this weeks game, or the article would've meant nothing after Friday when the team would now be 11-1. I have watched all but one of Gordonsville's games this season (I had no desire to see Pickett Co. play our jv), and even though I think GHS has had better teams over the last dozen or so years (at least 2 teams should've won state if not for poor coaching decisions, usually against South Pitt), there is something special about this team. If they are one thing for sure, it's SOLID. Honestly, I didn't think this was their year. I've been telling people all year long (those who cared to listen anyway) that next year is the year of the Tiger. I for sure, am expecting a championship next year! My prediction, Eagleville puts up a valiant fight before being worn down in the second half. The depth, speed, leadership, coaching, dominating O and D lines, and more than anything the lack-of-pucker-factor of playing in a HUGE game will win out in the end. I'm also taking into account that if Eagleville has even one weakness, the GHS coaching staff will look to exploit it all night long, whether offensively, defensively, special teams, or tendencies. On the counter punch, I see no such weakness in any part of Gordonsville's team this year. They are solid in every aspect of the game, including depth. Redkuda, I'm sure you've asked your son about how Gordonsville looks on tape. I'd love to know his response? Eagleville will have to play a perfect game to beat this team. I do think it will be closer than most people think, but not because Eagleville is being overlooked or disrespected. Our boys know what it takes at this stage of the game. Final score GHS 22, Eagleville 14. While I'm at it, the prediction for the winner of the South Pitt/Coalfield game is almost the same as this game synopsis. Coalfield, without use of their suspended players, (roster now at 28 players and without a coach) will play hard and put up a good fight to begin with, but adrenaline can only take you so far and South Pitt eventually wears them down. If all goes according to plan South Pitt at Gville next week will make my Thanksgiving complete. Especially with a shot at going to the title game! Just the thought of that rocks! I'm now a believer that we can keep the train rolling, and I think this week is still our game to lose. (my honesty continues with this p.s. I think Gville repeats what they did in 83 and 84. Just like 83 against ECS, we make it to the big game this year and lose to Huntingdon or Wayne Co., then next year, just like 84, the Big Blue rolls over everyone, including Smith Co.) See you tomorrow night and Cheers!
