  1. I remember scrimmaging oak ridge and playing them. Tough Squad always but always classy. You guys somehow were not considered a "tough team" by other fans. I don't really understand that I think most people that have paid attention realize oak ridge is always competitive and can always beat you if you don't give them respect. Good luck to Powell in Cookeville. Coach Lowe deserves a trophy he's put everything into that program.
  2. Congrats henry co. Everything I've herd is you guys are a tough squad. Looking forward to a great game with you guys in cookeville next weekend.
  3. are those official? Sounds pretty accurate, trying to get a rough read on how much he'll need for the record.
  4. They held him ok, he had 90 yards in the first half... He should need under 200 for the state record now. Good game all around. I hate to say it (actually i love to say it) but it appears to be the west fans that were shocked. I guess the talk of "powell hasn't seen a Defense like west all year" didn't mean a whole lot when it came down to it. I was pretty convinced the entire week powell would be able to control the game which they did fairly well tonight. Hope the injured west player is okay. Can't wait to go to state next week.
  5. West might have the best defense powell has seen (oak ridge was good) this year. By no means the best this group has ever seen, they scrimmage alcoa every year dating back to when brandon warren, dustin lindsey, randell cobb, etc were there. This group has seen some VERY solid defenses. Not to mention this was the team that beat maryville as freshman at powell. Granted it was freshman but generally maryville teams don't loose from the time they are 3rd grade on up. This wont be the toughest defense they've ever seen. #2 is averaging over 13ypc. In the first 3 play off games his average is still over 10. I believe he continues this. Maybe not 10 ypc but he'll get close. I personally think the Rebel fans on this forumn will be in for a surprise Friday. Can't wait to watch it
  6. Powell has so much experience they will not implode. They are seasoned team and coached very well. Such as Tspoon said they did not implode when they got behind against a very good oak ridge team. They held their composure, stayed confident and played their game. They would do the same against West. Powells entire backfield are three year starters, going to be hard to rattle them.
  7. Devrin is clearly faster then Mobley. My only point was Mobley is not exactly slow, he runs away from plenty of 4.6 guys...just look at how many runs he has for 40+ yards this year. LC def played a bad first half. They got much closer then they ever should have and they deserve their credit. But it is also 3rd round of the play offs they should push powell more then any team has.Ready for a great game Friday. Goodluck to both sides but I've got the panthers in this one.
  8. Birdie Told me that the UT coaches said if he runs sub 4.7 at their camp they would offer him, alas he did not lol. However, Kentucky has offered him, he ran 4.54 laser at MTSU and powell coaches had him at 4.47. He has some speed. Not to mention a lot of coaches are colleges are going away from laser time based on their reliability. Thats information from Nike clinics.
  9. I've seen them both play and I still find it hard to compare who is better. Devrin has more lateral quickness there is not doubt, this allows him to split defenders. Furthermore, he has great burst so once he splits them he's gone. Mobley has good one step and two step burst he will also run through arm tackles and rarely is brought down by one guy. Devrin his sr year was 5'8 165, Mobley in comparison 6'2 210. Quite a bit of difference in bringing down those 2. Not to mention Mobley runs a 4.4, he has some speed with him. If you sit and look at the Bearden Schedule it compares very much so with Powells schedule. He was not playing THAT good of teams. He averaged just over 10, still very impressive and very solid. But to say the strength of schedule played a role, it probably did a very small amount. Might be the difference in that 3 ypc average difference they have. Not to mention Mobley has just over 200 carries on the year. Just different backs in my opinion, Mobley is the better true tailback. LC made an impressive late run, but before half way through the 3rd they had I believe 10 yard of total offense. I wouldn't say they gave us all we could handle I say the same thing happened as what did in the Ooltewah game. Powells defense let down around the 28-7 mark, exact same thing happened against Ooltewah when powell went up 35-7. They will have to fix that also. I do credit LC they pulled Powell up late to get the ball back multiple times.
  10. I saw the game. A lot of MoWest was them making stupid decisions or for instance once they had a bad handoff and west recovered it. To add, Powell has 35 take aways on the year. Both defenses are solid.
  11. West is a very solid football team. This will be the toughest test of the playoffs and probably the year for powell. It is the 4th round so it should be. However, I feel comparing Devrin Young to Mobley is not accurate at all. Lets not forget what Powell has around Mobley, McPhetridge, the O-line, a lot of threats out of the WR corp. Not to mention Devrin Young and Mobley are very different style backs. Devrin was clearly a shifty scat back type. Mobley is very north and south with a few good moves mixed in. Mobley is a big strong TB that can run well. West will give Powell some fits upfront, but as we've seen before if one lineman, one LB gets blocked and theres a crease Mobley can break it or just pick up 10 yards. He is still averaging over 13 ypc. Which is incredible this late in the year. Mobley will get his yards even if its on his own, just like he has all year. At times the O line was to credit at times Mobley just made something happen. Therefore, for someone to say well Devrin Young did not do well against West so Mobley probably will not is ridiculous. Mobley is chasing the state record and is on pace to break it, Devrin Young did not get close. Whats that tell you? Powells D will stand strong as they have almost all year. Hopefully, they will eliminate these 2nd half let downs they've been struggling with the past 2 games. West will get some yards and get some points. If Powell can keep from shooting themselves in the foot over and over (such as MoWest) then Powell is the favor. Prediction: Powell 34 West 21
