BTW will be in the hunt for the Crown. Even with the loss of there top 2 scorers from last year they still have a core of young guys who can really play. BTW may have been favored last year, but they were actually rebuilding. Newby and Griffin were the only starters returning add Spencer and you go to the boro. Newby and Spencer are gone but they return three starters with Milan transferring in that solidifies that scoring void left by Spencer.

Memphis Mitchell scrimaged Covington on Thursday with Mitchell winng by 2. Mitchell led by as many as twenty at one point but Covington fought back and actually took the lead in the fourth. Mitchell was led by Spencer with about 20pts but sat out the final period with a leg injury. Gavin Thomas came up big in the final period with some key rebounds and blocked shots. Mitchells gaurd play was erratic and has to get better. Naba Echols seems to be the obvious choice but that's my opinion. Covington has a skilled athletic player in Dyson but he dissppears for stretches. Outside of Dyson Covington doesn't have many scoring options. As a team they're disciplined and very scrappy but not alot of size.

Briarcrest Christian PF Austin Nichols has committed to the University of Memphis per John Martin of the Commercial Appeal.

Some of the TOP teams in Memphis got it going this weekend. I got to see Southwind vs Mitchell and it started off pretty intense and was played pretty even for 2 quarters but Southwinds size and experience got the best of a young Mitchell team. Southwind won by 20 or so. Transfer Kalil Spencer is as good as advertised, he had one possesion were he posted, and powered up and over 6'9 J3 Williams (very impressive). All everything guard Jajuan Johnson led Southwind and had a few highlights of his own, one being a one handed dunk over Spencer. Ridgeway is not down this year, they may not have the big names but they have a 3 point marks man in Jonathan Burroghs. They have great gaurd play with a stingy in your face defense. They will be GOOD. Melrose can go about 10 deep without any real drop off. Even without top 100 gaurd Markel Crawford, Melrose will be top 5 in the State. They are big, fast, and skilled. White Station is back, with 3 top 100 kids in the 2014 class, Chris Chioza, Davel Roby, Leron Black and top 10 2015 gaurd Nyck Smith. White Station thumped a good Craigmont team on Saturday.

The Alex Fountain kid is a BEAST, he should be a lock for Mr. Basketball in 1A. I was really shocked and impressed by his size and skill set.

1st the kid from Westwood never lived in Westwoods district, he has always lived in BTW's district since middle school, where he attended Vance Middle which is BTW's feeder school. The Coaches Grandson was at BTW for one reason only and that was to play for his Grandfather and he did and probably would have continued if there wasn't an incident within the school. I am 100% South Memphis and bleed GREEN & GOLD but I also know that Horton ain't developing no talent. After 30+ years he is just coaching. We get a STUD every 4yrs and we ride that STUD until another one comes. Don't get me wrong Horton does wonders with those kids but taking a kid thats in the 9th grade that can't play and building him up it ain't going to happen. BTW BASKETBALL is organized KAOS and it works!!!!

TCA didn't lose much from last year. They lost a post player that was high energy but not too skilled. TCA return there core players. They have 2 lights out shooters and a couple of good freshman from there Championship Middle School team. I also like there coach. TCA should be a favorite to make it to the GLASS HOUSE

BTW vs MITCHELL Nov. 12 @ BTW.....Honestly BTW may be a better team right now than Mitchell. Mitchell returns Gavin, Martin, McNeil, & Phillips the only ones that played any last year. They also got Echols and Spencer (transfers) it may take them some time to mesh but I think they will be right there by January. BTW...They're loaded at the 1-3 spots period point blank but lack discipline (a problem every year). They have size in 6'7 center Ricky, 6'5 returning starter Cardboard, 6'6 250 lbs soph Chris but the wildcard is 6'5 soph Richmond son of former Warrior 6'9 Twinky Richmond.

We all may question the reason for the transfer, but if I know anything the move had to be in the best interest of the kid especially when it's family involved. Kalil is a talented kid and I hate to see him go, but we keep it South Memphis we gone be STRAIGHT.

BTW will have a chance to get back to the Glass House. We are guard heavy with pretty good size. We return 2 starters from last year and 3-4 kids that played alot last year. The transfer Milan will take up some of the scoring lost from Spencer's transfer. Trey, Jamarcus, Griffin and Milan could probably start for any school in Single A, but will be splitting time at the guard positions. WARNING........If you have weak GUARDS you will not beat BTW. We are bigger and more athletic than last years.

Freethrows cost us 2 games this year. 31-2 not a bad season for a team that returned 2 starters from the 2010-11 season. Future's bright only losing Newby & Moore. Out of the 3 Mr. B-ball finalist on the floor yesterday not one looked better than the BTW Freshman. Losing Newby he has some big shoes to fill but he looks capable. GO WARRIORS

Wow, great game not the outcome expected, but hats off to Lake County. I can't be too upset the future looks pretty bright for my Warriors, with the Spencer kid returning I think we will be okay.

Newby is a beast but there have been games this year where the Freshman Khalill Spencer carried the team. Please don't think this is a 1 man band. This team is legit.

I know what the response will be, but I wouldn't be speaking the truth if I don't put it out there. 1st I will say TCA is well coached, and they play hard. I think BTW would have eventaully opened the game up had they played there normal game. I doubt very seriously that IF this was just a regular season game the stall tactic would not have been the strategy used. Having so much stacked against you, as a coach you have to put your team in the best position possible to win the game. I like or chances at home more so than heading to Lake County. The cooking is a lot better at home. OAN, I don't believe in blaming the officials, but my God I witnessed 4 of the worst calls ever made all in succession & by the same official. Mind boggling but hey maybe just coincedence.

Pulling away with the WIN, is what matters.

Trader2 all u see is the talent, and this years 1A schedule. I tell u what, give your Grandmother the keys to BTW and watch how fast she jumps on 40 headed back toward Madison County. You are on the outside looking in. BTW isn't your typical MCS.

I keep hearing how horrible BTW's Coach Horton is, but I would like to beg to differ. He has well over 700 career wins, 1 GOLD BALL, a runner up, and has coached 2 NBA 1st rounders. If that is horrible, I would love to see your take on whats good.
