  1. I talked with Zach last night actually, he took a shot to his lower thigh in the contest against red bank, he'll be back at 100% come Friday night and hes one of the best playmakers around. He's scary for any defense.
  2. I am flattered by ur compliment my friend and always hold ur posts in the highest regards. I'll be there Friday night and i hope you mop the floor with Zach and those pretender bobcats. I suppose i have little room to talk seeing that we fell short against them as well but myself being a defensive player its hard to respect cental since they failed to score on Powell's Defense. At any rate good luck Rebs and just for the record Tallent and Baker run harder then anybody i hit all year long.
  3. congrats to maryville on a tremendous effort. I hate to see my sr year end on that field like many before me but i have tons of respect for GQ and MHS. Go get the other cats in our region and bring home another gold ball to 3-4A. To my fellow powell srs who may read this, thank you. Thank you for all the great memories great plays and experiences of the past four years. We'll never be without some stories for the grandkids. Its been an honor to play beside you all and ill never forget these last four years. Playing along side your buddies, your brothers, is what makes high school football what it is, and nothing can ever compare. To returning players for next year. Step up and make plays and enjoy every second of it. Its over before you know. Especially when you run into a defense like this one lol good luck rebs
  4. The future at Halls is looking mighty grim. In order to win big games you have to play great defense and hall's will stuggle to stop anyone next year. In fact i would be willing to bet that the Red Devil's scout offense will move the ball consitently on whoever starts on D next year for them. Its gonna get ugly, i would say they could maybe slip into the fourth spot i think Powell and Central may be a little down next year and West could be up in the top 2 or 3 so i dont know how its gonna shake down but preseason things aren't looking good for the devils next year.
  5. I understand that gulmire is a good high school runner who puts up some excellent stats. Ask him how man offers its gotten him. College coaches are interested in Tallent because of his size speed combination. And size is something gulmire really doesn't have.
  6. Rigger i will say this. Powell's D has never given up 352 rushing yards to a team let alone one man. Gulmire is a heck of a runner i believe that ryan tallent is a better runner and Powell held him right at 100 i believe, most of it on an 84 yard jaunt very similar to the one that the sterling kid had on us. Cody Watts will compete until the day he dies. He has twice the heart as anyone on ur whole team. And im not saying that they dont play wit h heart im saying cody is cut from a different cloth then most. As for Maryville, u worry about winning your second round game before you worry about us. I can't/won't promise a win this week but i will promise a closer game, same game plan or not.
  7. not sure who the admiral is the man on the ground is standout qb cody watts of powell. But you all may call him Mr. Watts (per the first powell maryvile thread.)
  8. Well Ron we certainly appreciate the respect. And i use respect because i know the rebs truly fear no one but im quite sure we've earned their respect. In the Hixon game, which was easily Powell's best all around team effort, there were a number of other "no -namers" who stepped up. One key thing i look for in this game, Maryville held Powell's standout defensive end #92 Justin Galyon to one tackle in the first game according to prepxtra. This kid has been a monster in every other game hes played, as always this game will be one in the trenches and in the kicking games. Heres hoping we give the fans a show just like last year.
  9. Coach Smith won't be going anywhere at season's end. He is back home and loving every second of it. Plus he still has two sons on the team even after Lee goes on to UT. Final score was Powell 45-14. Both TD's came late on Powell's reserves. Nathan Widener had an interception as well as a fumble recovery. Jordan Allen recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown, and a lot of other panthers who don't neccessarily get all the publicity stepped it up in a big way for Powell tonight. Great team win. Blount County is definately the place to be next Friday night....
  10. McCallie is a heck of a football team. Coleman is going to be a holy terror next year. How does Hixon stack up against the tornadoes? Any common opponents?
  11. I agree HTV the panthers are very upset with a 6-4 record or possibly a 5-5 record. The important thing is that Powell qualified for the second season. Which means after this Friday every team in the state that is still playing is 0-0 and its a race to see who gets to 5-0.
  12. i can promise you that this one is important to the panther players and especially the seniors. It's the last home game that we will ever play in Powell but more importantly its the difference between 6-4 and 5-5 and Powell is much better then a .500 football team. Plus its always nice to be hitting stride for the playoffs.
  13. I absolutely cannot believe that you left jay courtney off of that list. The way that kid has played his heart out 2 years running against maryville and u dont even throw his name out there that hurts me deeply.....
  14. Yea I was a little banged up but probably not as bad at Mr. Reese and Mr. Lucas were lol. Yea i talked to him a little bit. He was pretty bummed about not getting to see us against the red devils. He said it was tough to listen to it and not be able to strap up. He's doing well and is supposed to join us on the sidelines this week against the cats.
  15. That's true, I forgot about the yards he piled up against the 2's.....however, if you go back and look at the tape, he had under 20 yards against the Powell 1's.....that's mighty impressive. Seriously though, the guy is a good player, just not much of a line. I was just responding to your post that he performed well against Powell. Regardless of the final stats, the Powell D did a good job of shutting him down before the 2's came in. So the 94 yards that he got were rather misleading/
  16. Considering that South-Doyle had less than 100 yards of TOTAL offense against Powell, I'll go out on a limb and say he didn't rush for 100 yards by himself.
  17. one thing that has been the undoing of powell is having the balls to play the schedule we've played. Who can say that they have beaten this year's Webb team. Is Mccallie an easy game especially on the road? What about Maryville on the road yea i guess thats an easy W for everyone, ask alcoa how good maryville is. And farraguts is a quality football team im sure central can attest to that. Now are those the type of teams you have to beat to win state championships, yes. Does that mean that with the talent powell has that they no longer have a chance to win a state title, no it doesn't. The panthers are still 1-1 in the grand scheme of things with that one loss coming to Maryville. Big games coming up against SD Halls Central West and Clinton all of those games are games that i personally believe Powell can win.
  18. Any player that lines up inside the box can be "cut" that is a perfectly legal block. Good try though. "Diving at the legs" isn't so much what they were doing as making sure their man didn't make the tackle. Learn the rules of the game before u complain about cheating.
  19. I think if you watch film ull see that the refs let a lot of calls go. I got away with a clip on the long return by clemons but i was also held quite a few times during the game. I disagree with Lee playing ditry though and I would like to point out that there are 3 D1 schools coming hard after him that feel he plays the game its supposed to be played. If u think ur boy 45 jumping around like he just won a state ring everytime he makes a tackle (anywhere on the field) is the way the game is supposed to be played then ur wrong. He needs to start acting like hes made a tackle before cause we all know that he makes a ton of them.
  20. just wondering how that was a shot at central maybe im just not catching the implied meaning i don't know. Powell Maryville and Central are the top three teams in this region any way u cut it (halls is looking pretty good this year could make some ripples.) Powell battled three first half turnovers and was only down by 13 at the break (down by 7 and driving for the tying score late in the half when a maryville db gets a pick six) thats pretty darn good and shows u that when powell is clicking that they can play with anyone. Central will be another very tough test for the rebs and powell and central should be a good game. Three state championship caliber teams in my mind.
  21. webb is a very good football team look at what they have been doing since that game. In fairness i think Powell did have an off night in week one THIS YEAR but i mean Webb took advantage and did what they had to do to win that game.
  22. All the d's that we have played have centered their attack around stopping watts and smith thats why thrower has posted some of the numbers he has this year (third in the prepxtra in recieving going into last week and had another big game.) People are not letting cody and lee beat them and so we have to look for others to step up. But as i've said all along to be the man u have to beat the man and powell hasn't shown that it can go to maryville and beat them yet, hopefully this friday will be a different story. BTW Robpride i haven't read anything from MR. Smith on this board so tell me where he is running his mouth?
  23. Man if you thought the mccallie game was fun ur in for a real treat this week. The rebs are the best of the best in this area and powell is a very very solid football team this year. Tallent is a player and Watts is as well its the supporting casts that are gonna decide this one i mean u have tucker and smith u have maples and thrower. This is one heck of a football game guys. The rebs have won several games in a row in this series but im sure the panthers have earned the respect of the maryville fans coaches and players.
  24. actually htv watts threw to galyon for the second touchdown. He scrambled to his left and flipped it over the d line to galyon falling down in the endzone.
  25. mccalliesportsguy my friend u have every ounce of respect i have in my body. Great great post. Both teams limited what they did in the scrimmage because why would we show a lot when we play in a game that counts its gonna be knock down drag out football at its best and it should be a close game good luck this friday man..
