  1. Congratulations to my home county North Greene Huskies. While they didn't win it all, they did make us proud back here at home. Thanks to the team for a great exciting season. Good luck to the seniors on the team, and I look forward to seeing the Huskies back on the field next spring. While winning is great it still fells pretty good to me. Wish I could have been there to watch this week, however.... Again, thanks for the great season to the coaches, players, school, community, families and fans. Thank you very much. Fun season to watch..
  2. Grainger is certainly beatable, but no one has been able to do it so far. South Greene lost badly to them in both season games, then by 10 in the tournament. Elizabethton handled South Greene easily this season, once by the last time b y 30 points I think. So as much as I would like to see South Greene beat Elizabethton, I don't see it happening. And I doubt if Happy Valley can beat Grainger either. Got to hand it to both Grainger and Elizabethton, they are dominating teams. They most likely have easy wins on Monday setting up the face off between the two on Wednesday. That should be some game to watch. But it is not certain. That is why they play the games.
  3. I live in Greene County and I would encourage you to fight consolidation. When I think of how many good athletes don't get to participate, say at Science Hill, I just think it is not good for the kids period. High school should be something they will look back on with pride. And big schools deny the chance to participate to many and like it was said, does not guarantee success at the state level either. Sounds to me like you all are right on this subject. When it works don't try to fix it just for the sake of doing something different. Stand up for your local schools. Lots of great tradition there ion Carter cty.
  4. You have a good point there.. So many teams I simply have not seen play this year myself, I just think that District 1 has such a tradition of being tough to beat that I assume that the BRAC cannot play them this year. It will be interesting to watch. I did get to watch N Greene and S greene last night. And Grainger against S Greene on Friday. I just don't see much in the BRAC, although that was my first time seeing Grainger this year and they look like they could be better than I thought before watching them. Of course, they were playing S Greene, who are definitely down this year and not a team to measure someone else by. Greeneville might be better than the 3 or 4 games I have watched them this year. I just thought they were better last year. But that is why they play them, and I look forward to seeing how it all plays out.
  5. No I do not think the BRAC will be able to compete when the tournaments come around. Truth is the BRAC wasn't competitive last year and they are worse this year. Greeneville has several players that can shoogt if they are hot, as does CD. But I don't think either of them stands a chance against Region 1 teams. I wish they were but I don't think it will be pretty come tournament time. None of the BRAC will make a substate is my prediction. They just aren't consistent. I probably should not include C Gap or Grainger since I have not seen them play. Thje Greene County teams, just not that good imho. But that's why they play them. I just don't think it will go the BRAC's way this year. But at least I get to watch them play each other a few more games until then. So it's all good.
  6. South Greene just lost too much last year to graduation. They haver only 1 senior this year. Just a young team that has improved, but once they get behind it just seems they cannot catch up. But they will be back to a regular competitor. Next year they move down to Single A from AA though. It is where they belong, since they have just over 400 students I think. Coach Hoese is a real competitor that gets players motivated. I would bet he gets them into shape for next year, but yes, I am afraid they just aren't competitive in the BRAC this year. As to West Greene, I just don't know. They always seem to do worse than they are capable of. Maybe they can figure out the way to become more competitive. Being a fan, I don't like watching blowout games even if my team is winning.
  7. Can't disagree with your guesses as to how they will end up Greenpap. I was at the Cd=Greeneville game. Greeneville started on fire, hitting like 4 3's early in the first qtr. Cd fought back but Greeneville defended their lead well. By the 4th qtr Greeneville was playing not to lose and CD made a decent run, getting the margin down to 7 I think. Lots of talent on CD's team but it just seems disjointed, like they just cannot put the pieces together. I don't know but I think they are capable of beating Greeneville. That is not the same thing as doing it though. All said, it was a rather boring game to watch. I had anticipated a real back and forth, not really caring which team won. I was disappointed in that.
  8. Chuckey Doak has lots of talent and I think they could have it together by the end of the regular season and give Greeneville a good run for the championship. That said, Greeneville is a very well coached team, and they can shoot the eyes out of the hoop from any range. Grainger does not appear to be stepping up to where the early season thinking had them, so it looks like Greeneville's to lose, and CD maybe capable of making that happen. Who wants it the most. Should be a fun last half of season to watch.
  9. Greenpap I think your posts are fine. Some people take these things more seriously than others. Just ignore it. If someone is respectable I don't care how many or few games they see or post. I don't have to read it if I don't want. It's always good to remember that all these players are someone's loved one, and most of them will never play professionally. So like many of us, if we can grab some nice entertainment and watch these young athletes play, and then we want to say something about what we observed with some manners, great. Or if that doesn't suit someone they can always stay home and watch TV. It's always available. From what I have seen, that's all you have done and it is not a problem. Not sure anyone meant it was but there's room here for all to post. at least I hope so.
  10. After watching S Greene and Greeneville last night I think I will go with Cd as the best in Greene county. CD is loaded with talent. Greeneville has a good bench, which was the difference against a young team like S Greene. CD should handle Greeneville easily. Will be a good matchup. Hope to see them play each other. I still have not watched Grainger Gap or Claiborne. Just the Greene Cty teams.
  11. South Greene is scrappy but they lost a lot to graduation. Greeneville is loaded as is Chuckey Doak. I have not seen all the teams play yet, like Grainger, Gap and Claiborne. But Greeneville and Chuckey Doak look like either one could run away with it. West Greene still improving too. We should know more soon. I love watching it unfold. Basketball that is.
  12. North Greene is a very good team with only a couple of seniors. They have good pitching, hitting, and defense. Tyler Bailey, sophomore pitcher, threw a perfect game against I think Gatlinburg Pittman earlier this season. I know nothing of the teams in other parts of the state, but North Greene is well coached, fundamentally sound, but lots of underclassmen varsity/starters. They are not one dimensional team, and I would not be surprised to see them do well. If not, they are young and will be a force next year and beyond. No dog in this fight, just some info on the team which I have watched twice this year and I am located in the same county, so I know they are good.
  13. Roger that. It is a bad way for it to end for all the seniors especially. All the rest have some time to regroup. Personally, I would have liked to see a county team advance from Greene County, no matter which one it was. Just a strange and not good way for the BRAC this year. I do believe that Greeneville, SG and CD have very good teams, with Greeneville and SG losing lots of seniors so next year should be interesting with Cd having lots of underclassmen returning with varsity experience. We had a good and fun season even with the disappointing end. And yes good luck to North "Greene, who will definitely be back next year (even though they aren't BRAC). The state tourney just isn't as interesting now.
  14. I thought, based on others input, that Greeneville was the best around here. Someone forgot to mention that in Mountain City.
  15. Just found out TSSAA declared South Greene the winner and will play Greeneville today at 4:30. I am not trying to start anything, just posting information. I believe that I have never attacked any one's team with any post. I do not work for SG or CD or any other school. Just a fan that wants his team to win. I pay my admission and go to enjoy the game. All these kids are someone's loved ones. I have lived way too long to die young already and realize just how short a high school career is for all the student athletes and want that to be something they can look back on with pride later in life. It really is just one aspect of going through high school, and being involved in extra curricular activities is a good thing for any young person to do. I encourage it. Having said that, I do believe that coaches following the rules is how it should work. Maybe Greeneville has let many opportunities to advance on rules infractions by opposing teams pass in years gone by. I don't know if they have or not but I doubt if they would not go forward if the shoe was on their foot. I have acknowledged that Greeneville is the stronger team between them and SG this year, just like SG is the stronger team between them and CD this year. That is not an attack on CD's program. Dustin Morrow is a fine young coach with hopefully many years to go in the future helping young people play a game and get good at it. I hope so. For all the coaches. I guarantee you Morrow will not get bitten by this rule in the future. Most likely he just didn't know this rule or he would have made a change in pitchers since they most likely had the game won. SG was flat. Just not ready to play and it showed from the start. But SG is the best of the two teams this year, having beaten CD 3 times already, just like Greeneville has beaten SG 3 times already. I do hope the Rebels can put this episode behind them and play their best today (or tomorrow if the rain doesn't stop). Bottom line, it is the coaching staff that is supposed to know the rules of the game and play by them. This is a very unfortunate thing that happened and it just demonstrates that life isn't necessarily fair. i hope all involved can learn from it and go forward with their lives. It really isn't the biggest or worst thing that can happen in life. I think all will survive it. Finally, Troy Cash for CD was injured yesterday when he fouled a pitch that struck him in the face. He left by ambulance and I hear he has a broken nose and jaw. Certainly not the way you want to see any senior end his career. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to him. And I would expect a very strong CD next year, just looking at the rosters. Lots of good underclassmen on that team.
  16. Well this is interesting if nothing else. Cd beat SG 7 to 3 last night but Cd pitched the same pitcher against Cumberland Gap and SG. 12 innings pitched on consecutive days is over the limit. I know CD fans will be furious if they lose this game under protest. TSSAA has to rule but based on nearly identical violations in the past it seems that CD will most likely have to forfeit the win, losing a regional tourney appearance. A bad way to lose if they do. http://www.coacht.com/tennessee/article.cfm?id=207 This looks like an almost identical situation to me. CD has a good team and they play hard. Personally, I don't like to win one on a rules violation but on the other hand, going to the regional is a big thing. We will know the decision soon.
  17. After watching the tournament games to this point, I am going to say that if South Greene beats Greeneville on Monday, they will also beat them on Wednesday for the title. Rebels have looked really solid during the tournament, getting some production from the bottom half of the order and playing more consistent defense (although their have been some errors). If the pitching is solid for SG, I believe they just might give Greeneville a run. Either way, the tournament has had some good games to watch. and that is what makes it enjoyable even if my team doesn't always win.
  18. North Greene is a very good team although I have only watched them 2 times this year. They are young with a really top notch coach in Tim Lady who knows what to do. They are young and I could easily see them advancing a long way in the post season. And if they don't make it to state, they are very young and will look to be even better next year. Good luck North Greene from a cross county fan.
  19. Chuckey Doak 8 West Greene 4 A good game that WG was in until they gave up a 5 run inning to CD. Cd's bats were doing well, and WG just made some errors. But we really expected this so no surprises. Cd looked good on offense. They play South Greene at 4:30 today. Greeneville Plays Cumberland Gap at 2:00. I might warn anyone coming that Tusculum is having graduation today, so traffic and parking might be a bit tight. Enter the ballfield from the old Erwin Highway entrance instead of coming in from Shiloh Road and you will do better with a shorter walk from the parking areas. Theoretically at least.
  20. Chuckey Doak West Greene 4
  21. I'll second that. I just hope the Rebels don't think CD will lay down and roll over. They will be out to win. The Rebels are stronger than CD but you don't know until they play. But coming down to Greeneville against South Greene? That's the way it should be based on how the season has gone.
  22. Not really sure the Rebels will get by CD, assuming the Rebels and CD both win their first games. One at a time. If they do, Greeneville will be difficult to win 2 of 3 against them, but on the other hand I remember hearing how no way could the Rebels handle the Devils at basketball either but guess where the trophy is? As you said, that's why you play the games. Should be interesting anyway.
  23. Well the standard answer would be no they have no chance but with the exception of Claiborne County, I would have to say that on any given day West Greene and Gap are capable of winning.I have watched most of them play this year (Claiborne I have not seen play) and if one of the high seeds has an off day, sure. They could be beaten. Even Greeneville and they have enough bats to win even when their pitching is mediocre, which is not common. They have the complete package and most likely won't be challenged in the tourney but i have seen bigger upsets, especially in baseball. I suppose we'll just have to watch and see. If Greeneville is going to score double digits every game then I don't think anyone can beat them. And they score double digits regularly.
  24. Great story about Jameson. I am glad to see it getting some national exposure. Good for him and the CDHS Black Knights. I hope he got the windshield repaired.
  25. One thing is certain: without Jameson Painter, Chuckey Doak would be very lost. He is worth more to his team than probably any one other player on BRAC teams. But like always, the one outstanding player almost always could be given to several players. Just depends on which team gets the nod. B etter teams have more than one that could be considered. I am glad it isn't up to me because you almost have to bypass some players with an equal claim to MVP. Just sayin.
