I just happened to get to see Tyrone Caldwell play for the 1st time tonight against Father Ryan. This kid is the REAL DEAL! There is no way that this kid is a Freshman ... he is strong, quick, unselfish, great finisher, good defender - he has "the gift" of the big time players! I read that he averages 18 points per game and is the #1 Freshman in TN according to tnprephopps.com - I can't wait to see him play for the next 3 years. I hope he will be the next great player from AAA Clarksville High ... Ted Young (current coach and 2nd Team All- SEC at Vandy), Shawn Marion (USA Olympic Team, NBA All-Star for the Phoenix Suns), and Trenton Hassell (currently starting for the Minnesota T-Wolves). I don't think there is any high school team in TN that can say that they have 2 alum's starting in the NBA right now! I really think that Tyrone has the potential to play Major D-1 college basketball and maybe even the NBA one day. He was awesome tonight ... Father Ryan had a tough althetic defender on him tight all night - Tyrone still scored a quiet 17 points and had many assists to his teammates. He hit a 3 (nice shooting form), 3-4 from the Free-Throw line, lots of steals and deflections, and I really don't remember him missing many shots. If Clarksville didn't substitute so freely in this non-district contest (5 substitutes in and out the whole game), they could have won this game. I hope this kid keeps developing and growing, and puts Clarksville back on the basketball map. I know that Clarksville Schools have suffered with the new schools (Kenwood & Rossview) opening up and splitting up the talent. I think Drake Reed (Northeast) will be a good player for APSU next year ... I just wish he had more help on his HS team. Corey Plfieger (Dickson Co.) is also a great HS player who will be a good player for Rice next year. Every team can use a great shooter! I just think that Tyrone Caldwell will be on a different level in a few years... he is already dominating the district and has lead his team to a 6-1 district record as a Freshman. And nobody expected Clarksville to be any good this year - their whole team is mostly Sophomores and Freshman. I knew something was up when Clarksville won the Mid-South Classic in Cookeville over Christmas Break - 16 teams were in the Tournament including ... Cookeville, Livingston Academy, Shelbyville, etc. Tyrone was named the MVP after scoring 22 points per game in CHS's 4 wins in the tourny. Clarksville's Junior Greg Bronson, Sophomore's Sean Dowlen, Ryan Harper, & Sean Merriweather were also named All-Tournament. This team will be tough for the next few years!
