Old time rivals meet again for the 99th time in one of the oldest rivalries if  not the oldest in the state . For this generation the rivalry might not seem as big as Clarksville grew and more and more schools were added , the rivalry between the city schools replaced this one. When the Jackets started playing AA in the late 80’s the in county schools in the AA classification at the time became instant rivals. Springfield leads the series 57-37-4 but in the games when the two met in the playoffs Clarksville has been a thorn in the Jackets side after winning the regular season game the Wildcats won in the playoffs in 1981,2006,2010. As far as this year’s games I’ve got the Jackets 31-17 . The local writers who cover both teams teams have the Jackets to win. The Clarksville writer has the JACKETS by 2 touchdowns and the writer covering SHS takes the Jackets by a touchdown.Sonny Moore Power ratings has the Jackets by 29 . The Friday Night Rivals crew will be broadcasting the game on MyTV 30 .

Jackets by 29? I’d take it but how do they come up with that number?

  2. Apparently McGavok passed the ball pretty well against Clarksville......their star WR that’s committed to Mich St did have around 150 yds receiving. Im looking forward to the opportunity for the Jackets to have success in the passing game as well. Clarksville, offensively, has a decent QB with good size and RB#6. Looks like they run the pistol set some. Apparently Clarksville had trouble with some high snaps and turned the ball over 5 times. Im sure they get them corrected. Jackets get 2 starters back on defense that are chomping at the bit im sure. One of them is a DB. He may have to battle bc the DBs that played other night played a heck of a game. We shall see!

Well I was way off on my prediction, Jackets roll 35-0 and second year in a row Greenbrier kicking game cost them. Was nice to see the two basketball players contributing to the team and #27 back from injury last year gives our team rest  another weapon on both sides of the ball. What can you say about #14 looks like he has picked up some speed from last year. Good win and best of luck for the bobcats the rest of the way.

Both of the bball players played excellent. Between them they had tackles, pass breakups, int, fumble recovery, a td. Can’t ask for any better. Hopefully it keeps going

  4. Im going 31-10 Jackets.

    Clarksville vs Springfield
    12      L 23-21   away
    13      L 35-0    home
    14      L 23-7    away
    15      L 21-17   home
    16     W48-28  away
    17     W34-14   home
    18     L 38-21   away
    19     W21-15   home
    21     W27-10   away

Dustin is 4-5 against them. Clarksville forfeited their win in 2015 but I don’t count it bc Jackets lost. They didn’t play in 2020. 4-1 in last 5 games isn’t  bad.

I am hearing that Clarksville Northwest will be much improved this year

Apparently that’s correct. I had heard Stewart lost a few but I wasn’t expecting NW to win. Our region went 5-1 this wk. Surprised Portland lost. Thought Panthers were going to be a tad better.

I do think this game is going to be much closer than last years. I mean GB has D! talent on defense and they did shut out Heritage 22-0 in a scrimmage to show their dominance, so yes i do feel this one will be alot closer than last year. I am going 35-0 Jackets

    On the money

  7. My predictions

    Springfield 35

    Portland 28
    Westmoreland 7

    Northeast 41
    West Creek 14

Sonny Moore has the Jackets favored by 28 in his before the season power ratings.

Maybe like a 35-7 type game. I saw Greenbrier kicker kick PATs twice and it wasn’t pretty. I think they may score in this game late. Their offense will be better than it has been last couple of yrs imo. I wasn’t impressed with their blocking though. Jackets starting offense looked good against CPA, Heritage, and DCA.

  10. Like to see Jackets get after the QB and cover 11 and 19......I can see them taking a few deep shots on the Jackets. In a scrimmage couple wks ago they were also working on a double handoff by the RBs...something similar as Hendersonville use to do.... or still does. OL just hasn’t looked impressive for them. I don’t know...we’ll find out in a few days.

lol was a young team last year. Going toe to toe with a top 5 private school team is something Springfield couldn’t do.

Keep starters in different ending I promise you that! You put way to much into a 2 qt preseason scrimmage LOL. You weren’t there you know nothing

We can’t sleep on Greenbrier or we will regret it.  I know Coaches Wilson won’t, I am hoping the players don’t over look the Bobcats or we will start the season with an embarrassing L.  #19 bill rushing into the backfield to try and blow up plays.  We need strong line play and our D to continue the play from last year

I expect Dustin and crew will be focused. 19 is a hoss and loves to blitz. He’s probably 6’6 270 at MLB. He blitzed some in last yr game few times. I expect offense to be better and defense might be close to what is was last yr.

    “Backups”

I was there and saw it. They have been doing that for several yrs. The starters get plenty of work and no need in risking injury in a jamboree. They are trying to get backups experience and build depth. They also have 30 freshmen that got mins last night.

    How did last night go?

Starters got 1 series. Got ball first and drove down and scored. 1st team defense went 3 and out. Backups and freshmen played the rest. DCA scored after recovering a punt that bounced into a Jacket player. They weren’t advancing returns so not sure exactly what return man was doing. Then DCA scored again on the freshman. DCA 14-7. Good work for backups.

I was thinking the Jackets by 3 TD's or so, so I think your score prediction will be fairly close. That being said, I havent seen either team this year and just basing my guess off of who I know is coming back for both teams. IMO, #9 for GB was the best player on the field during last yrs game. This was the first game of his sophomore season, with him playing safety and before their coaching staff finally put the ball in his hands on offense. This was also with a UT walk-on (I think got hurt early in the game) and UT commit on his team as well. Hopefully the Jackets D keeps him contained and hes running for his life all night.

The Jackets O is in good hands with a very good QB who has a strong arm and he is a LOAD to bring down when he takes off. There aren't many DB's or even LB's who want some one on one in the open field. He has a stable of rb's to hand off to as well. Jackets D will be somewhat small for a 5A school but it's full of kids who do their assignments, fly to the ball, tackle well and are VERY WELL coached.

In the end, the Jackets well-balanced team will be too much for the Bobcats and they'll head back up Hwy 41N with the W.

Tonight was the 2nd time I’ve seen Greenbrier this preseason. They scrimmaged Heritage couple of weeks ago and only scores 3 tds the entire game....that’s with starters in for most of the game. Their OL struggled especially pass protection at Heritage. TE19 will drag with 9 rolling as well. 19 blitzes alot. He bullies his way into the backfield to blow the play up. ER moved the ball on them tonight but couldn’t score. And from what I saw both games Greenbrier doesn’t have a kicker.

Devon has thrown the ball really well. Wrs and rbs have looked good. OL is experienced. Defense swarming. Ive seen were Greenbrier has been getting picked to make a playoff spot in their tough region.....out of 9 teams. Will be a nice test for the Jackets...Bobcats have few nice pieces.

  16. It’s here:hungry:. What else can I say? I like the Jackets in this one. Bobcats offense may be a little better than last couple of yrs. QB9 is mobile and he likes to throw to 11 or 19 (UT commit) mostly. Their OL hasn’t been as impressive which may be a reason of rolling 9 out. Excited to see this Jacket team. Several playmakers and a few new contributors. With all that said I say Jackets 35 Bobcats 12
