  1. Byrd is injured, but should be back next week. The decision to bump Jenkins up wasnt made until just prior to the match. Jenkins lost a tough match Saturday in the finals at Hillwood against Josh Bennett 6-4 in O.T.(his first loss of the year) I guess the coach felt Jenkins didnt have any thing to lose by wrestling up and that if he could pull off a win it would really help build his confidence back up. Pack scored first with a very aggressive take down that appeared to drive Jenkins head straight into the mat then Pack sunk in a deep half but jenkins was able to fight it off and get a reversal I believe,Pack got an escape and Jenkins got another take down, then Pack got another escape to start the second period. Jenkins and Pack each scored 2 more going into the third tying the score at 6; at that point both wrestlers appeared to be waiting for the other to make a mistake but after a stall warning by the ref on both wrestlers they locked up again and fought to the mat where Jenkins was able to work out of the tangle and get a takedown with about 2 seconds left securing a win 8-6 against a very tough Tim Pack. It was an exciting match to watch as both guys are very aggresive wrestlers, and both appeared to be pretty equal.
  2. Make sure you check the wrestling results in today's Tennesseean. [Edited by kjfan on 1-15-03 8:42A]

Floyds only other loss was to defending state champion Dustin Catlett of Bradley Central, in the finals at the Bradley Invitational. Bennett also handed Kenny Jenkins of M.L.King his first loss of the season in another overtime match 5-3 in the Finals. ** at 160 Zach Choate defeated Brandon Beasley of Harpeth in the Semifinals and then beat Blake Byrd of M.L.King in the finals. Both Beasley and Byrd are currently Ranked in the Tennbest Weekly.
  4. What happened to Josh Johnson @152 he forfieted all of his matches after the second or third round did he get injured? or did he not make weight on saturday? In looking at the bracket he should have made the finals; no disrespect to Littlejohn, but johnson beat him earlier this year @ the Overton tournament.
  5. Just a wild guess but here it is 1. Soddy (Because they are Soddy) 2. Clarksville (Purple is a nice color) 3.Franklin (Someone from Region 5 has to be here) 4.Ft. Campbell (Army Brats are tuff) 5.Overton (I hate to say it but Overton looks pretty good)
  6. You know Snobhater you are right, no previous state champs will be at the Hillwood tournament, but there will be good wrestlers there. I assume your comment about the chess team refers to the Magnet school guys, if so remember one thing; the person you call GEEK today you call BOSS tomorrow.

Johnson is seeded #1 in the 152 bracket for the Brentwood Tournament. Has Johnson wrestled @ 152 anywhere other than the Overton Tournament this year? TennBest has him ranked @152 but I think he has wrestled 160 all year with the exception of the Overton Tournament, where he finished third.
  8. I think David Lipscomb, East Lit, Hume Fogg, Hillwood, M.L.King, Nashville Christian, Pearl Cohn, TSB, Whites Creek, Springfield, Harpeth, Dickson County, White House, Beech, Cheatham County, Union County and South Doyle are participating. There are probably a couple of other schools That will be there but I cant remember those off the top of my head. 152 looks to be a really strong bracket with Floyd from South Doyle, and Bennett from Dickson County. 160 has a couple of Ranked guys as well in Byrd from M.L.King and Beasley from Harpeth. This should be a really good tournament.Last year it was loaded with good teams, including a couple from Alabama. [Edited by kjfan on 1-9-03 3:28P]
  9. I dont see the new rankings TNbest still has the rankings from 12/18 up.
  10. I think Connell is an outstanding wrestler and a fine young man, but after seeing the dominance of Dustin Catlett at the Bradley invitational last night over some of the best wrestlers in the state I dont think Connell would beat Catlett. Just my opinion, but when you pin your opponent in the finals in 28 seconds in one of the top two tournaments in the state and Connell gets sixth at the other tournament.( Yes I know Connell is recovering from an elbow injury) I gotta go with Catlett.

I dont think a minor decision is a slaughter,However Pack was the dominant wrestler that day. I would say that the two wrestlers are both very good.Byrd defeated the #2 160 in the state Saturday at the yellow jacket tournament in Chattanooga Byrd defeated Cook of Grundy County 16-15 in a very exciting match. Tim Pack is a good wrestler I dont think I've heard anyone in Middle TN. say otherwise. Blake Byrd is also a very good wrestler. He's 1 and 2 against Pack this season 1and 1 against Johnson, lost to Donahue of Clarksville in double overtime and defeated Cook of Grundy county on Saturday. Byrd has won a few matches against very good competition and lost a few close matches to Good competition. Bad mouthing Byrd only shows your ignorance of the sport of wrestling.
  12. The kids name is Jamie Wilkerson He is a very good young wrestler. he wrestled varsity for lipscomb as an eighth grader and came within a match of going to state last year.He beat a good wrestler in Johnson and I believe he also won the Ft. Campbell tourny last weekend. The only loss he has that I am aware of is to Jenkins in the finals at the Overton Tournament.
  13. Someone please explain to me how at 152 Sherrill has Johnson ranked fourth (nothing against Johnson, he's a good wrestler)when first of all he is wrestling at 160( where Sherril had him ranked second last week), second of all he gets pinned by Wilkerson of Lipscomb while behind 9-6 at Overton, then Wilkerson turns around and gets stuck by Jenkins while trailing 7-0 and neither of those guys are mentioned other than to point out Johnsons loss. Last week Johnson lost to Beasley of Harpeth and Byrd of MLK at the Mcgavock tournament.Sherrill was gracious enough to include those two in his rankings this week.( both guys deserve it in my opinion)Sherrill might be an expert but I think at this point in the season he would be more aware of whats going on  [Edited by kjfan on 12-19-02 9:11P] [Edited by kjfan on 12-20-02 9:50A]
  14. No question Scott is the best right now D1 or D2 @ 145 I wonder who wins at practice Connell or Scott
  15. I think you could put Clarksvilles 160 in there. I believe his name is Donahue. Tullahoma (region 5) has a pretty good 160 I can't remember his name.
  16. Something Clever, Beasley is at harpeth I'm sure you know thats a region 7 school you could also say Clarksville and Kenwood are middle tennessee schools. you could go to region 5 and put Brentwood, Smyrna, and Franklin as middle Tennessee. If you want to throw in DII schools put Ryan and MBA in there as well. Toro is asking who the best 160 is. He put a few names out there. Beasley beat Pack at Mcgavock, Byrd beat Pack at Overton, Pack beat byrd at Mcgavock, Byrd lost to Clarksville's 160 0-0 in overtime, Pack beat Clarksville's 160 (I dont remember the score)by a comfortable margin. I dont know of any other really good 160's out there other than Johnson at Antioch but he's in region 6 as well then you have Vanderloop at Hillsboro coming back from football I believe he is planning on wrestling at 160 also. again region 6 (last year region champ @ 160)another guy you might think about is Eric Martin at Overton (Darn Region 6 again)I agree with you region 6 is not the only school in middle Tennessee, but they sure are loaded at 160. I believe you will see some guys going up or down in weight before the seasons over.It appears 171 and 152 are not as competitive as 160 in region 6 this year. [Edited by kjfan on 12-18-02 11:46P]
  17. Toro, You dont have Cochran listed; didn't he beat Bennett at Kenwood?
  18. Byrd is about 6'3" He is 160 Beasley is pretty good. It's hard to say whether he beats Pack again or not. Tim has shown he can be very good and even when he's not at his best he is still tough to beat. [Edited by kjfan on 12-18-02 2:42P]
  19. Lee Connnell,I have to say after reading your post I am very impressed. I had the pleasure of watching you wrestle at the state tournament last year. I didnt care much for the outcome (you beat one of our Nashville boys)But the better man won that day.I think your comments speak volumes about what kind of young man you are, both on and off the mat. Good luck this year.
  20. dc,do you think that someone with three losses to unranked opponents deseves to be ranked? anyway it really doesnt matter where you are ranked in November does it? It's where you are ranked the day after the state tournament that matters. until then its just opinon. Tenn Best has his opinion and silver bullet has his I dont think either guy is wrong. I do think it gives people somthing to talk about though. [Edited by kjfan on 12-16-02 9:30P] [Edited by kjfan on 12-16-02 9:31P]
  21. Twittycanes, Beech Maplewood Mcgavock, Harpeth, MLK, Glencliff, Antioch, NCS, Whites Creek, East Lit, Hopkinsville KY., Stratford,TSB, Mt.Juliet,Hillsboro, Hillwood and PJP2 i know I probably left out a couple of schools but that's all I can think of. Wizard I have to agree, Weakley shows a lot of promise. He wrestled Jenkins From MLK last week and gave him all he wanted. I think the final was Jenkins 6 Weakley 4 [Edited by kjfan on 12-16-02 9:21P] [Edited by kjfan on 12-18-02 8:24P]
  22. Jenkins is undefeated but he has been scored on.He won the McGavock tourney this weekend Defeating Littlejohn of Mcgavock 13-5. You are right, Jenkins has looked very good against the kids he has wrestled so far this year, but he has not wrestled any of the "elite" wrestlers at 152 this year.
  23. I would have to agree Catlett is the man to beat @ 152. I will say that I have seen a few very good wrestlers from regions 5,6, and 7 that would love to face off with Catlett in February.
