  1. Cop out. I asked for an opinion.

Agree with you. In fairness, though, from what I saw this year, nobody in the county plays very good defense. BW was just the worst.

I tend to disagree. Ravenwood was very solid defensively this year. Very sound fundamentally and minimal mistakes. 11-0 in large part because of a strong defense.

  2. It is my contention that cumulative effect of both feeder school and high school zoning changes has significantly thinned the athletic herd at Riverdale. I am sure there are a slew of individual reasons for individual families and players, but most schools lose some players no matter what. Rankin realized what was going to happen as new schools were coming along and left for greener pastures. Because many thought the program was all about Rankin, the players started looking around for the next big program and trickled away. The trickle turned into a flood when the zoning changes came along. Now, what were once all Riverdale athletes are now at least two other schools, possibly more, but i have not studied the zoning maps all that closely to say precisely.

Is the case that Riverdale's pool of 2000 students today has significantly fewer good football players than its pool of 2000 students from 1995-2005?

  3. We can agree to disagree about what is classy or not as well as what "facts" and "reality" are.

I'd just prefer people to be encouraging and uplifting to others on a forum where reading text often leaves you bereft of context. If you and the Summit supporter have a prior relationship that gives context to good natured ribbing, then perhaps I've been presumptuous and I apologize.

  4. I would say Riverdale under Aydelott has been a better than average program. I, like so many others, am not satisfied with better than average, we just have a difference of opinion as to why it is not the great program it once was. Having a rough start to a long season has allowed to many #### roaches come crawling out of the wood work with their negativity and they only want to blame one thing. I look at several things including but not limited to talent.

Describe the talent difference, please. Has enrollment changed drastically as more schools are added to the county? I believe they were counted at just over 2000 for this current classification and to my knowledge, this is a fairly consistent number for many years now. Am I off base with those numbers? If that is the case, the Jimmy's and Joes are still likely to be walking the hallways at RHS.

  5. Never said it didn't. Most coaches across the state consider Aydelott a great coach. 90% or better of them would love to have had his success.

How would you summarize the drop off parallels?

I think coaching as a wholistic idea is the difference, likely. Not an insider but this would be my guess.

It's not the difference between a good program and a bad program but between a great program and a good program.

    Rankin 194-25 (89%) and 4 state titles.

    Aydelott 69-23 (75%) and 0 state titles.

  6. Are you referring to Woodward or Maher? Either way, I agree with you there.

Woodward. I don't know much about Maher outside of on the field observation of a handful of games. He seems to play hard and have the command of those around him. I'd encourage him to (at times) pay attention to his body language and be sure his posture and physical poise look like a champion but he is a kid so I'm knit picking now.

I think Woodward is the real deal. Be patient, Bruins. He will win games. I think he is a foundation first kind of guy so let him get a row or two beyond the cornerstone before getting too worked up.

  7. The pass interference no-call was definitely the main one I was referring to. That was a game changer. It was 3rd down and Brentwood was down 14-7 at that point. The no-call killed Brentwood's chances of tying the game up before halftime (not to mention the fact that if the penalty hadn't been committed, the game likely would have been tied on that very play). The other one that upset the entire Brentwood sideline was late in the 4th when Brentwood was down by 8, it was third and long, and Maher scrambled around the end and up the sideline and dove forward across the first down marker and the official spotted him an entire yard short of the first down. Obviously neither one of those officiating mishaps actually took points off the board for Brentwood, but they were bad calls that killed 2 drives that could have changed the outcome of the game.

You made a good point though, the refs did catch a lot of holding and block in the back penalties against Centennial, so I guess it could have been much worse. I guess I'm just bitter because Brentwood could very easily be 2-1 right now, but we are 0-3 instead.  :|

IMHO, the call on Maher scrambling to the Brentwood sideline was actually good. His left foot went out about 3 yards short and the ball wasn't across the line. Bad spot, but still no first down.

Officiating was equally good/bad, I'd say.

Brentwood will be fine. They have a good leader.

  8.

Don't know who will be around after this game, but I'd consider it an insult to Jalen Hurd if you suggest Northeast's Jalen Reeves-Maybin compares.

    Facts:

1 There are 2 or 3 players in every district every year who stand out like Reeves-Maybin

2 Hurd is a once in a lifetime deal and compares to players who went on to play in the NFL

3 Reeves-Maybin has committed to Tennessee

4 Jalen Hurd would have started for and helped Tennessee this year, as a 16-17 year old

5 Committing to Tennessee carries the same weight as committing to Kentucky or Mississippi and, in this context, is not a good measure of an individual's quality of football play

6 FactsOnly wishes Jalen Maybin-Reeves the very best and hopes these comments are not taken to suggest he is in any way inadequate

Wow. Have you seen both of them play? Those seem like pretty absolute statements.

  9. That's pretty much what I guessed you would say.

Hillsboro would blitz in the second half and they would run the ball right into the obvious blitz. And when they are giving up long run after long run they still fail to put more than 7 in the box. And other minor things of the like

  10. Centennial has been outcoached a few times this year which makes me a bit nervous for this game, it appears that their coaches do not believe in making adjustments throughout the game. Hillsboro ran the same three plays the entire second half minus the long touchdown pass and they didn't change the defense. On the other side of the ball, Centennial ran the same deep comeback probably seven times and found success in the first half but Hillsboro caught on and the last three were incompleions with the final one being a pick that ended the game. They had the talent to beat everyone they've played excluding Brentwood and possibly WC. I know nothing about Portland except that, from looking at their scores, they've played some good teams pretty tough and their district is probably a little better than 11AAA this year. That being said, I think that if Centennial brings their A game for four quarters they should win. i

If Centennial opens up the offense like they did against Brentwood and put up at least 28 they should win.

Elaborate on the lack of adjustments. What play was Hillsboro running? What defense was Centennial in or what should they have been in? I wonder if its a theme

  11. All kicks this week will be touchbacks due to Wharton being the dangerous returner.. Punts on the other hand will be planned to get kicked out of bounce I would guess but Jenkins is a first year punter and could make a mistake..

Is Wharton as dangerous in the backfield as he is returning?

Wharton is scary whenever he has the ball but in the return game, especially punts, he is lethal. The more room he has to freelance, the better he is. Punt returns are where I've seen him do his best work. As far as his QB runs and other runs out of the backfield, just do plenty of pursuit drill. Contain the edge and force him inside but be warned, your inside out players had better be there. Wharton sees seams opening three steps before it happens. The rest of the game plan should favor MJ. Not that Indy is no good, just not as good as MJ.

  12. Cane Ridge is a very new facility. Cookie cutter stadium and plenty of parking, especially since I doubt they pack the house.

Ravens are very athletic and that makes the QB look good in my opinion. Very much a "Metro" style. Not very refined. Throw it up, athletes make plays. I will say, the new staff has things going the right direction. Just not quite up to 7-AAA yet.

Riverdale out coaches, out hits and out classes Cane Ridge, 42-20.
