  1. beating baylor never ever gets old. the game was exciting if you were wearing blue. joey skogen and john brock went wild. jay fullam did his thing. congratulations to the seniors for doing thier job, taking care of business, and getting the win. class of 2010 your up next...

  2. GREAT POST and a real interesting perspective. I have to agree the atmosphere was exciting last year. However, I have to disagree that the game is only for the players. It is bigger than just the players and the game would not be exciting at all if played in front of empty stands.

It is too bad both McCallie and Baylor don't have more seating capacity. There is enough money at both schools to expand.

its ok for you to say and think that its bigger than the players, thats fine to me, but whats interesting to me is you talk about playing in front of empty stands, as a player, thats what it felt like at finely, i know my junior year they said 12,000 people came, thats a toooon of people a ton...but it didnt feel like anything, i couldnt hear our crowd, much less the baylor crowd, our fans would chant and cheer, and so would thiers but i couldnt hear or feel anything...all the feeling came from the players, and yes the games were played and i am in no way complaining about the outcomes, but i know that if we played on campus, on EITHER campus, we woulda played better, baylor woulda played better, and the games woulda been better...better for who? the fans. and even if you werent lucky enough to get a ticket to a game on campus you woulda seen it on tv. and it would've been exciting...when i called my grandparents after the game this past year my granddad said my nanna almost went through the roof with excitement, now maybe MAYBE they only did that because i was playing, but i dont know. baylor's seating compacity is 2500, or thats what i was told this past year, i was also told that 3000 came to the game, but those 3000 felt like 10000 to me as a player, when we would make a play, our fans went nuts, but baylors fans picked up their team, and baylor bounced back...and baylor would make a play and their fans went nuts, but when i turned around to our side, our fans picked me up..they picked up the team, and everyone saw the battle and the result...people said it's one of the best mccallie baylor games they've ever seen. and thats the truth...when we played at finely, and i've played there a number of times....it felt empty. all the time. and thats all i have to say about that

  3. all 4 of my highschool years as a football player (the last 4 seasons) i wanted to play red bank, or ooltewah...because all the papers claimed that they were the best in chattanooga...that could've been true, but i wanted to play them to either prove, or disprove this statement, we can sit here and say red bank would be mccallie or ooltewah would lose or whatever it is your opinion is but we never knew, remember the ooltewah team that went undefeated a couple years back, and the mccallie team that had BJ? well i do, i also remember ooltewah losing in the playoffs, and i was on the sidelines when i saw us lose to brentwood academy in the state championship...i bring this up simply because one of mccallie's games that year we played a team from S.C. they were said to be like the 3a state champs in South Carolina, but they were awful, i was a backup on that team and saw significant playing time in that game. how amazing would it have been if mccallie didnt play the team from south carolina and instead played a pretty good ooltewah team? one team woulda won and one woulda lost, but they both woulda been tested, and more prepared for the post season...it would've drawn sooooo many fans to finely or to mccallie or to ooltewah, both schools woulda made some money and also both woulda gotten some good experience that woulda been valuable in the post season...i remember before that season started we (mccallie) played Red Bank in that krystal kickoff scrimage thing, it was 20 min of running clock. it was fun, but a joke...the following year Red Bank did the same thing against baylor...i dont know facts for sure, but all i HEARD and this is word of mouth, is that ooltewah wouldnt play us because they didnt want to lose their good players to mccallie's recruiting ways...i personally havent ever seen a case of us recruiting, but i'm not denying that it could happen, but you would think that if ooltewah played mccallie and won, then why would any of thier players want to come to mccallie? same for baylor? i have heard rumors of baylor recruiting, but i wont get into that because i dont know any facts for sure...personally i think it would be great if mccallie got to play ooltewah, or red bank, or hixon, or soddy, or somebody from around town....please public schools, i dont know whether its a lack of guts, or just them not wanting to, but it would help the chattanooga community and it would also better chattanooga football as a whole

  4. Nick, That was an excellent post. And this comes from a Baylor grad from a few years ago. I just don't think people really "get" what an experience it really was. I don't know if Baylor will host it at home again next year or not...but I certainly hope so. But it was a tremendous amount of work that went into it but oh it was worth it. The only thing I disagree with is the outcome....so disappointing for the Baylor seniors especially. I will never forget that experience as well. I just wish you had written into the chattanoogan.com about you positive experience from a McCallie student. A McCallie parent wrote in putting Baylor down in it a few days ago. I agree this game is for the players and students. Thank you again Nick for the wonderful memories from last year......here's to breaking the streak though. Go Baylor!

where do i send it in to the chattanoogan? and i'm not nick moore, he was a senior when i was like a sophomore? i think, nick just said that quote to the school paper, and its one of those things that's stuck with me...but i appreciate you're positive imput

  5. i graduated last year, and was able to play in last years game, as a former player i just have a few things to say about the venue of the game....nothing. nothing. and i mean NOTHING compared to last year, not even the state championship my junior year, when i was in the 6th grade i watched the last game at baylor until last year, it was amazing. and i walked away thinking i wanna play in a game like this...i will never ever forget the memories that were made there last year, never. the anticipation became an actual physical feeling for our team on wednesday, and typically it happened on friday...i will never forget the bus ride over to baylor, and walking off the bus and all these 5 and 6 year old kids surrounding the bus and high fiving us when we got off the bus, TWO HOURS before the game, i will never forget walking onto the field and the stands were already packed, and people were already cheering. that NEVER happened at finely...i will never forget getting dressed and feeling the crowd's noise in my feet, i will never forget the few plays i did make in the game, i will never forget walking out and having the crowd go insane, i mean ya at finely the students yelled, but the parents, and alumni and the little kids, they were all on their feet screaming...i will never forget looking across at the baylor people and seeing them yell....i will never forget how hard i prayed to God matt would make that kick, and i will never forget crying like a baby when he did thanking God. i know everyone wants to see the game...my grandparents wanted to see the game, they had tickets, but my granddad isnt the most mobile, so they couldnt come, it was a shame, but they watched it on TV, and i called em afterwards and they were so happy and proud...i wish they coulda been there, but thats the way things work sometimes...the game is about the players, never forget that. its not about the fans, its not the fans' right to see the game, but their privilege...i know baylor's "small" in all honesty its not, 3000 people saw that game live, and i know mccallie is too, but i was so happy about the game being at baylor, it made it 10x better...i wish mccallie would have the game at mccallie this friday, i hope baylor has it on campus next year...finely is cool but its a terrible place for a player to play, the stands are 50 feet off the sidelines and i just remember feeling sooooo detached from everyone who came to watch the game, my memories at finely are all good but they all run together, i can remember that game at baylor like it happened last night....that is my pitch to anyone and everyone who has any power with the venue of the game in the future, bring it back to campus, for the players, and for the feeling of the game

now, onto the upcoming game....i believe the streak will continue, jay fullam and john brock and jim makepeace wont let it end, these 3 guys have lived in the rivalry for years and years and years, jay's had 2 older brothers in this game, and johns had 3, jim's lived on campus forever...these men know what the streak means, i know it will be a tough game, and baylor has a good bit of talent, Sam Williams, he's pretty dadgum good so i've heard, i know brett murray's good...but i just dont see baylor winning...look out chattanooga, #11 is coming soon

"The only difference between mccallie and baylor is a mindset, every year baylor hopes to win, but mccallie EXPECTS to win" -nick moore

  6. As an observer of this thread from start to finish, I believe that all of you are from Baylor trying to cast a shadow over the fact that McCallie beat Baylor on thier home field. They denied me and many more fans the opportunity to view this game up close and personal with the disguish that it provides an High School feel. If we were (and I know that we are not) in a major city the game would be played in a large arena, so quit being phony Baylor, McCallie beat you. I hope that next year 08 McCallie brings this game back to Finley where it belongs and also I hope that they make it eleven (11) that's right count it eleven (11) wins over an administration like Baylor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think you Mr. Sir, are being selfish, how many people do you think were "denied the right" to see the tennessee georgia game? the fans don't have a "right" to see the game in person, its a privilege...and the 6,000 or so fans that were there, acted that way by supporting both teams from start to finish...for those fans that were "denied the right" to watch the game in person, both schools had it broadcast on the radio, CSS put it on TV, Frank Burke put it on the jumbotrons down at Bell South (or isn't it AT&T Field now? i get confused) Stump Martin covered it on his show, and all the local news covered it on there shows...i don't think baylor's being phony...i really don't like them as a school or football program..but hey, they got it right on this one...my parents were home before i was so i know that they handled the parking issues as best as possible...my uncle was gone off campus less then 10 min. after the conclusion of the game...i haven't been back over to baylor to see any trash aftermath, but i'm sure they handled that ok too...now being familiar with mccallie's campus, it would be more difficult to host, simply because of the parking issues...but its still totally possible...i hope our administration thinks long and hard about taking the game back downtown, cuz as a senior, the game being on campus made it more special....i hope our juniors next year can feel exactly what i felt...

  7. I am probably one of only a handful of McCallie fans who was happy that Friday's game was played on Baylor's campus. Not because I wanted the blue to prove a point, but because I believe this game should always be played on the respective campuses. Friday's night's setting was electric. Fans for both schools were vocal and close enough to the action to actually have a positive impact on their teams.

The policy that McCallie has adopted in recent years to move games for which they expect a large crowd to Finley removes any home field advantage that may exist for the players because even a large crowd gets swallowed up in Finley. This policy suggests that giving the players and coaches who personally invest so much into the season every opportunity to win is not as important as the comfort of the fans.

While watching McCallie lose to a superior Brentwood Academy team earlier this season at Finley, I couldn't help but wonder if the blue might have been able to stay in the game longer if there had been a united fan base supporting with one voice at Spears Stadium. Although it's unlikely the outcome of the game would have changed, by playing that game at Finley, the administration denied the team the emotional lift that is generated by a charged up home crowd. Those of us at the game were so spread out that it was impossible to generate a united voice from the bleachers.

I recognize that hosting a big game on campus is a logistical nightmare for those in charge, but that is a lame excuse for moving home games. Perhaps it's time for a younger, more energetic athletic director who is willing to put the interests of his team ahead of making his life easier.

I recognize that playing the McCallie-Baylor game on campus means that the demand for tickets will be greater than the supply. I see that as a positive. I personally would have liked to have had a ticket for the game in Knoxville on Saturday, but there aren't enough tickets available to fill the demand. That's the way it is for almost every major sporting event everywhere. When we can't get a ticket to an event, we watch on TV, listen on the radio, get updates from friends at the game, etc. We deal with it. The notion that for some reason I have a right to see any game I'm interested in is ludicrous.

I applaud the Baylor administration for staging Friday's game on campus. I recognize that it required a great deal of planning and coordination. In my view, that is the responsibility of the home game management team. As a visitor Friday night, I appreciated the effort.

as a player, i totally agree with you...the game itself was increadible...the atmosphere wat amazing...to have the majority of your fans at the game in time for warm-ups...there's nothing like that...the place was rocking from pre-game to post-game...as a member of the team, the game was just ten times better at Baylor then it would've been at Finley..i appluad the baylor administration for everything they did, who cares if they moved it back for home field advantage..that's great, the game was great...it was awesome to look across the field and see tons of baylor fans, and actually hear them...because in previous years it was easy to look across and see the other fans, but you could never hear or feel them, because the stadium was so spread out...heck we could barely hear our own fans at finley...but last friday our crowd was into it from start to finish, making it one of the best experiences of my life...what a way to enjoy your senior year, winning at baylor...i sure hope Coach Cherry thought to himself that mccallie can pull that we can pull that off next year, and we should simply because the atmosphere was amazing...

  8. does anyone "in the know" know the full extent of Baylor's injury situation this year...what's the story on evan joseph? riley dyer? alen owsley? isn't there another RB that's hurt? can somebody fill us in? btw i'm taking mccallie by 14 or more...

  9. Both teams are coming off losses this week McCallie losing to FR 17-14 and Baylor losing to Brentwood 30-0...both teams are again on the road McCallie going to Ensworth and Baylor to Knox Catholic...which team will put it together with only 2 weeks remaining until the showdown? as a member of the mccallie camp, i believe that we have the better chance given the injury problems that baylor's dealt with this season...but it still should be a good game...all in all mccallie brings home victory # 10

  10. I am a Ryan fan and ex-player, and the best team I ever played was McCallie. They players display tremendous sportsmanship and ability. The game was fantastic, although rather lackluster. Both teams got a lot of work to do coeming up in their scheduele. FR hasnt beaten McCallie since 2000, so it is a good feeling.

But still, McCallie has the best and kindest players, and their defense is absoluletly tremendous. It's always an honor to play you guys, good luck.

wow that game was a tough one to lose, but your comments are highly appreciated...ya'll played pretty well and we had a buncha mistakes that ended up costing us the game...congrats on the win, and hopefully we can get things together and meet ya'll again in the playoffs....

  11. Well the last time this McCallie senior class played this FR Senior class, the Irish won pretty handedly in Nashville at a freshman game. I dont think much has changed besides the talent both teams have now in their junior and sophomore classes. The Irish must bring the heat and make McCallie feel out of place, and therefor out of sync.

Probably the best game Firday night in all of Tennessee. I will be there, meself.

Wow, uh i was a part of that particular freshman game you're reffering too McCallie lost 14-0, the field was probably 65-75 yds long...and uneven...granted that's no excuse...we returned a kickoff for a TD that was called back...but overall our offense couldn't move and our defense fought their tails off....but many MANY things have changed about this class and more importantly this football program, we're looking forward to getting into the win column in our conference (region, i'm not really sure what to call it...D2AA-AAA) but we also know that FR won't give us an inch...their RB is very good and hurt us last year...this game will probably be more physical than the previous Brentwood game...and i think we're looking forward to that test...just as Father Ryan sees this as a "defining" game, we do as well...good luck to both sides, hope everyone comes out and is supportive, hope both teams stay healthy, should be a really good game...

  12. We are still a young, but rapidly maturing team. Friday night should be a good game and will be a great test to see how much we've grown. As long as we execute and press the kicking game I believe we will be ok. We are used to the travel and our guys handle it well. I don't expect that to be an issue.

Ma'am i'd first off like to thank you for your continued support of our team this year, however we are not as you say a "young team" we have 16 seniors, most of them play, and all of them lead, and the ones that don't play on fridays contribute on the practice field during the week...but we have grown a ton this year and are continuing to get better everyday...i hope you'll be able to make it to the game friday even though its a long trip...speaking of long trips i don't believe the distance will have much affect on our performance. We traveled a ton last year, and have already made a 5hr (maybe longer) trip to Kentucky this year and were able to win on the road 31-14...all that being said i expect a highly physical game and a very close game...i remember the FR teams when i was younger and how they weren't very talented, this team is not like that...they're big, they play hard, and they have a great deal of talent...McCallie will have to execute every play and be ready for a tough physical battle...i believe our team is ready for that test, but that's why they play the game...my prediction (my hope) is that McCallie will go to Nashville and come home with a win in a close one...21-14

  13. That is the point, everyone in the Chattanooga Area and the writers on this thread are advid Baylor supporters. I have nothing personal against Baylor but if you were at the Jamboree Red Band dismantle Baylor and the local media insist on lifting up Baylor and not teams like LFO, Ringgold, Ridgeland all from Georgia, but reside in the Chattanooga Area. So as I stated earlier, if Baylor is not as good as everyone thinks they are it will be a long ride home! It is just that simple. MBA by 12

man i know you're right, i was at the jamboree watching, and i saw a very average baylor team, granted they didn't try a whole lot on offense, but the only play they scored on, Red Bank had 10 men on the field, and they player who was missing was the SS, Red Bank torched them running up the middle repeatedly, and it didn't matter that Baylor put men in the holes, they couldn't tackle RB's RB....they also threw the ball to Tim Benford consistantly without trouble...now onto MBA...i don't have a clue about them so i'll go with what usually's true...they'll probably be able to run the ball...which was a problem in their scrimage, and i doubt they got much of a test in their first game...MBA probably won't throw the ball too much, so baylor can relax there...i think it'll be a very close game...this could be Baylor's wake up call for the season, or it could be the start of a very long road trip (they go on the road the next 4 games)...who knows what'll happen....should be a good one...but my prediction is MBA 10 Baylor 7

  14. UMMM, maybe 135, but I hope not.

i doubt McCallie will forfeit at any weight...those on the inside (which i am not but know and talk to many of the wrestlers) know that Mccallie weighed in multiple wrestlers at most weights...old GC is capable of shifting and shuffling his line-ups in order to avoid forfeiting any weights...but all that being said i doubt we'll see Joe instead of Will taking on Ben J...most of our wrestlers seem to be dealing with the loss well...i think this time it will be even closer...i believe we will avoid pins at 152, and 285, but i'm in no mood to make a bold prediction for you WV....i will just enjoy watching this one...i will say this i do believe the winner won't win by more then 4 points...hopefully its the blue that wins this time, when it counts

  15. go ask them then come back and tell us...maybe it is because they know the owls are loaded for the next few years :thumb:

i'm suuuure that's the reason...cuz we're scared of your talent comming up...riight...because we've been scared of talent before, ie: Riverdale last year, Columbia (4, AA championships in South Carolina) last year, Tyner like every year, Brentwood every year, MBA every year, MUS every few years, we were even supposed to play Niese (Tim Tebow's high school) two years ago (i don't know why that fell through), Niceville Florida two years ago, we're not afraid of anyone, or the chance that we might lose...cuz yes ya'll have been very good, i'm not taking anything away from ya'll...and yes ya'll look to continue to be good in the future...i doubt the reason we won't schedule you is because of your up and coming talent....though it does make me very mad to hear that the game was talked about then nixed by the people in charge...that makes me really mad actually...but there's only so much whining about it that you can do...guess we'll let it go then try to get it done for the 2008 season...oh well

  16. I was stating why McCallie is in a different league than Ooltewah...

Last night at the football banquet I heard Ooltewah tried to contact McCallie about playing the next 2 years and McCallie declined. Ooltewah also contacted Red Bank and they never returned phone calls. Ooltewah will have only 9 games next year unfortunately....

wow...well that's news to me...i am shocked that we would decline that game...because it would help both schools...i sure hope that's a rumor because i would be extrememly dissapointed in McCallie if we did turn down that offer...maybe our schedule is full? i dont know, but i sure hope that the men in control of scheduling could get this done sometime in the near future, and i really don't understand why McCallie wouldn't accept ya'lls invitation to play...that is way beyond me...

  17. I'm trying to prove a point that Ooltewah is not scared of McCallie. There is only one reason why Ooltewah won't play McCallie and his name is Ed Foster.

    Private Schools:

    - anybody can go to the school. ( no school zone ) ( recruiting goes on and if you think not you are crazy. Private schools have to recruit to bring kids to their schools)

    - facilities are much much better

    - able to hire better coaches. (public head coaches in Hamiliton County make and extra 20% percent of their teaching salary while your head made $90,000+ per year)(also Ooltewah can only have 2 paid assistant coaches)

    - better weight programs with private schools (McCallie's weight coach is the University of Tennessee's ex weight coach.)

    - more funding for private schools (do me a favor and go to Ooltewah and look at their coaching "office", weight room and locker room. Its probably one of the worst around the area.

These are the reasons why McCallie is in a different division than Ooltewah. This is why Ooltewah's principle doesn't play McCallie. Ooltewah coaches had everything set up but had to get the "OK" from the big man and obviously that didn't happen. Ooltewah still has only 9 games on their schedule and needs to find a 10th ASAP.

I'm just baffled that you guys actually think Ooltewah is scared of McCallie.

ok, ok, so we have more funds...ok, ok, your facilities aren't as good...(let me remind you, this is what you said)...ok, ok, we recruit (though i don't know of anyone, i don't even wanna get into that argument...so i'll let that go)...but let me ask you, what does us being able to pay more coaches, us having "nicer facilities" and us "recruiting" have to do with you guys, not playing us? now granted i'm not in a position of power at McCallie, but i'm sure we would love to play you, i know the players would...and i know that most of you Owls aren't in a position of power over there, but if i understand everything right ya'll would like to play us too...and as i understand our coaches have talked about us playing...and now everyone is blaming one man for us not playing...no someone please explain to me why this one man doesn't want our two fine schools to meet? beeecause we'll take some of your younger players after we beat you? not likely...i know that i've been on the losing end of a game before, and thats never made me wanna go to that school...now lets say ya'll win, and that's very possible....i've DEFINETLY not made me want to attend that school…ok so your money is low I’m sure we could play at your place…so you wouldn’t hafta travel across town…or maybe you want to play on the “nicer facilities” and use the “better locker rooms” you’re more then welcome to play the game over here…see what I don’t understand is what Ed Foster’s problem is, or why he wouldn’t want to play us…and why if so many people from Ooltewah want to see the game, then why wouldn’t Ed Foster want to cater to his students, parents, school board, athletic board, and everyone in the whole city…because you know that if the game was played at the right time…EVERYONE in chattanooga would be there…bringing revenue for both schools, bringing publicity to both schools (as if either school needs it) and after a hard fought game people would walk away thinking “wow those schools play some good football” and it would shed a positive image on both schools…and would probably make the younger kids want to go to either school…that’s just what I don’t understand….is how one man can make the difference between us playing and not playing…I’m sure that there has to be a way around him…

  18. QUOTE(Gtjackets @ Jan 16 2007 - 07:51 AM) 826333436[/snapback]

This is not a complaint, but if I am not mistaken, McCallie and Baylor have kids from all over the country? 15 different states roughly. Once again, not a complaint - just an observation.

for clarification...if we're still talking about middle school (and i think we are) then McCallie and Baylor only has kids from Chatty and the surounding areas...but if we're talking about school wise, then yes you are correct we have kids from all over the country...and McCallie (if i'm not mistaken) has one or two wrestlers from out of the country...this wasn't meant to be a snide remark, just a clarification for some people who may not know...

  19. Dan has been around basketball a LONG TIME! Yes the baylor McCallie game is HUGE,and yes its like no other expirence,BUT the fact that he wont be able to handle the pressure is crazy, he wont be the one out there playing in the game. Also im sure he has coached in games just as big if not bbigger, everything is going to work out find, i have full confidence in Dan~!

ok so looking through the sunday paper this week, and i was shocked to see that Baylor took Brentwood into overtime, and barely lost by 5...and i also noticed that Kevin Cooper's name wasn't in the paper...what's the story on that? does this make any mccallie fans nervous? cuz i am now....its gonna be a good one

  20. It looks like that the "big wave" described above is required to keep them in the match. Without the shift down and everything going right, do you think McCallie can get over the likely bonus points that will result in several matches?

that remains to be seen...in the past couple years...mccallie and baylor have won pretty much the same number of matches...but the bonus points that baylor would get always was the difference...maybe, hopefully mccallie can get some bonus points of our own...and limit the amount that baylor gets....it should be a good match and i'm really looking forward to it

  21. McCallie will be taking on King's Academy on friday night at home...i don't know anything about King's and i know that McCallie is coming off a rough loss to Brentwood...how do ya'll see this one coming out? and can anyone tell me what to expect from King's Academy

  22. You think Baylor will score 45? I am thinking 32. I am sure Coach Wadley has seen his fare share of high intensity games. FYI, he has won a couple of state titels and played in front of packed houses before. But, your right this game/environment is different. Especially at Baylor where McCallie's bench is right in front of Baylors students.

you're probably right...i was being a little generous....and i'm sure he'll handle the pressure just fine...but because i haven't seen him handle it before (i wasn't at any of his games at state) the jury is still out....hopefully the game is some-what competitive....cuz i would hate to be standing in that gym, all packed in there watching a blow-out....but i kind of expect us to embarrass them, at our place and at theirs

  23. McCallie won last year, at baylor! Yes you are right it gets pretty crazy in that gym!McCallie will be playing with the same players as last year minus Jordan Hobbs(shooter) and J.W. Lail(player maker). Both regardless to records i knew both teams will step up their game and it will be a battle! McCallie wins though, they do have more advantages!:thumb:

yes the game last year at Baylor was insanely intense...to bad we couldn't get that re-match at mccallie...something about a storm....i forget...but this year hopefully we can get both games in, i see this one not really being a game...yes you usually throw out the records of both teams but seriously...what is baylor's record....few wins-a lota losses...and mccallie we're something like 13-3 or so...there's no way we lose this game...who has the inside force to be able to bang with Ron Anderson...and i know you've got little Bret Murry gaurding Walt Dozier...can anyone say miss-match??? how is kevin cooper holding up this year on the basketball court? the knees ok? and also how does UT feel about him playing? the only real variable that could potentially hurt McCallie...our coach....first off let me say, he is a great, great, great coach...but i don't know if he's even been to a baylor/mccallie basketball game, much less coached in one...the atmosphere is crazy...but i highly doubt he'll collapse under pressure...i actally think he'll enjoy it...i see mccallie winning this game using their good defense...60-45
