go from 6/5 to 7/4 if he's lucky? hardly an upgrade.
Yeah, but if he goes to Science Hill they are guaranteed at least a win over Kingsport and that's basically the NET Superbowl

Facts...until someone takes down the Rebels they should be the favorite. Got loads of young guys salivating at the opportunity to prove themselves and get a 3peat!
Blazer how is Region 1 looking this year?
I expect Sevier County might be pretty good, perhaps Mo West as well. But I don't see either of them getting out of round 2. The rest of the region gets smoked in round 1. Except for those once-in-a-blue-moon anomaly years the NET big schools are pretty much the same every season.

What do ya'll think the O/U will be?
I would put the line at 6.5
Obviously with a first round exit
1st round exit? For real ?!?!?! Oh wait..... are we talking band or football?

As you know I've preached it before but the big schools can be relevant in the football playoffs but the entire system has to by in from the pee wee up. I can promise you if Caine Ballard was the head coach at DB he would win them a championship with the athletes they have including the ones walking the halls. It's a system and a strong head coach that knows what they are doing.
Science Hill has had a lot of athletes over the years as well. I totally agree with you

It's not just DB, I don't think any of the NET big schools will ever be relevant in football. Meaning in the playoffs.....

OR will be down they lost three stud athletes that were all state level and wasted the RB.
Powell will be down because they lose most of their OL and the better backup QB I heard has went to Clinton.
SC could get better with the QB coming back but I think they lose their best linemen and I don't know about their skill guys.
West will for sure represent 5A and East tn. They will also compete with, if not beat Page, if Page makes the championship
Until someone in 5A takes West out you kinda sorta gotta go with them, agreed

I look for LC to be improved which could be a L.
Mo West could be a tough one.
I would set the W/L line at 7.5
MoWest & TN High could either one get Sevier Co this year. For now I'm going with the Bears but later on when we start getting more info that could change

I know not all schedules have been released yet, but I am just curious, what are some good ones that you all heard about. Trying to make a list of some games to go see for this upcoming season? I would love the help!
Do you mean 6A vs 6A?
Also, what region of the state do you live in?
-
Everyone has different views on this. Some think that playing the toughest possible schedule and finishing .500 somehow makes you more prepared for the playoffs. Whether or not Boone plays an easy or hard schedule we still have an early playoff exit every year, the regular season schedule has absolutely zero to do with how we do in the playoffs. So with that being a given, I have come to the point where I would rather have an easy schedule where we have the opportunity to go 10-0. If you are going to get bounced early in the playoffs either way then what does it matter? Sevier County may be a different culture, perhaps adding Powell & West might get SC playoff ready.
-
Looking @ R2/5A, Sevier County might be able to take Heritage. And Central has been mediocre the last couple of years. But other than that I can't see anyone in R1/5A within 30 points of Powell or West.
R2/5A
Central
Halls
Heritage
Powell
West

I look for Sevier County to win region 1

So if West is down but still able to beat you all then you must not think yall will be much this year?
My guess is that every team in R1-5A will be mediocre. The exception is Sevier County, they may be pretty good. As far as West vs. Boone, I don't think either will be very good but I give West the edge since they absolutely lit us up last year. Here is a guess about how R1-5A finishes, but it's only February so there could be some change as we learn more in late summer.
Sevier County
Morristown West
Tennessee High
Daniel Boone
David Crockett
Cocke County
Maybe Sevier Co & Mo West flip for #1 & #2. Maybe Boone & TN High flip #3/#4. Too early to know anything for sure

You said that would be a loss
Probably will. West beat us last year 30-0, Boone may be a bit better this year but doubt we can take West. Until the season gets started it's just guesswork though......

Mo West loses the RB right? I would think they would be down if that is the case.
I would expect West to be mediocre this year. Not sure if the RB graduates or not.

what does ole boone got this year?
I think 5-5 would be a reasonable expectation. Known losses will be against Sevier Co, Science Hill, Elizabethton & Morristown West. Might be able to squeeze out 6-4.
-
It's not just DB, all Tri-cities 5A & 6A teams will get smoked early in the 2024 playoffs.
-
If the TE wants a shot at a state title then this is a good move because Sullivan East will never be in a championship. That's not to say that colleges would not recruit from SE but if he wants to play at the next level then Elizabethton is a better option.

You know you can't be trusting AI Mavs in Flight! The only way GreenEville could end up in 3a is if they move back to 5 classes like when I played. Greeneville is growing with people moving there and have about 100 more students than when I graduated in 2008.
Greeneville seems solidly in 4A, if they move at all it would be to 5A, but as of now they would have to gain about 170 students to move up to 5A in 2026.

Good thoughts. Do you think the new private school they are building off exit 57 will impact tri-cities football?
Depends on what you mean by "impact". If that means could the new private siphon off some students from the local publics then yes, that could happen. But if you mean will that impact the Tri-cities teams in the playoffs.... I dunno know, most of the time Tri-cities is one-and-done anyway, not sure how you could really negatively impact that.

Oh yeah, agreed. I meant the DB game is Science Hill's superbowl each year, as long as they win that one the rest doesn't seem to matter much
