  1. Do you mean 6A vs 6A? Also, what region of the state do you live in?
  2. Everyone has different views on this. Some think that playing the toughest possible schedule and finishing .500 somehow makes you more prepared for the playoffs. Whether or not Boone plays an easy or hard schedule we still have an early playoff exit every year, the regular season schedule has absolutely zero to do with how we do in the playoffs. So with that being a given, I have come to the point where I would rather have an easy schedule where we have the opportunity to go 10-0. If you are going to get bounced early in the playoffs either way then what does it matter? Sevier County may be a different culture, perhaps adding Powell & West might get SC playoff ready.
  3. Looking @ R2/5A, Sevier County might be able to take Heritage. And Central has been mediocre the last couple of years. But other than that I can't see anyone in R1/5A within 30 points of Powell or West. R2/5A Central Halls Heritage Powell West
  4. I look for Sevier County to win region 1
  5. My guess is that every team in R1-5A will be mediocre. The exception is Sevier County, they may be pretty good. As far as West vs. Boone, I don't think either will be very good but I give West the edge since they absolutely lit us up last year. Here is a guess about how R1-5A finishes, but it's only February so there could be some change as we learn more in late summer. Sevier County Morristown West Tennessee High Daniel Boone David Crockett Cocke County Maybe Sevier Co & Mo West flip for #1 & #2. Maybe Boone & TN High flip #3/#4. Too early to know anything for sure
  6. Probably will. West beat us last year 30-0, Boone may be a bit better this year but doubt we can take West. Until the season gets started it's just guesswork though......
  7. I would expect West to be mediocre this year. Not sure if the RB graduates or not.
  8. I think 5-5 would be a reasonable expectation. Known losses will be against Sevier Co, Science Hill, Elizabethton & Morristown West. Might be able to squeeze out 6-4.
  9. It's not just DB, all Tri-cities 5A & 6A teams will get smoked early in the 2024 playoffs.
  10. If the TE wants a shot at a state title then this is a good move because Sullivan East will never be in a championship. That's not to say that colleges would not recruit from SE but if he wants to play at the next level then Elizabethton is a better option.
  11. Greeneville seems solidly in 4A, if they move at all it would be to 5A, but as of now they would have to gain about 170 students to move up to 5A in 2026.
  12. Depends on what you mean by "impact". If that means could the new private siphon off some students from the local publics then yes, that could happen. But if you mean will that impact the Tri-cities teams in the playoffs.... I dunno know, most of the time Tri-cities is one-and-done anyway, not sure how you could really negatively impact that.
  13. This is just a non-professional anecdotal observation, but I do not believe that HS football means that much to the Tri-cities communities like it did in the 70's & 80's.
  14. Yeah it takes the whole picture to make it successful, i.e., the athletes roaming the halls probably won't play until the rest of the pieces are in place. And conversely the rest of the pieces may not fall into place until all the athletes come out for the team. Thus a logical paradox. But my point is that there is a statistical validity that the number of available athletes increases as the student population increases.
  15. It's unthinkable that out of a 2500 student population you could not have 11 distinct players each for O & D. I'm not that familiar with DB students, but the same is somewhat true @ Boone, I know for a fact that each year there are lots of guys who could make an incredible contribution to the team but they don't play for whatever reason. In 2022 Boone went 12-1 for the first time in over 50 years and I really thought that 2023 would bring out some new guys who would have otherwise not played, but it didn't happen. I suspect there are enough quality players at DB to field 2 decent 6A teams. Same for Science Hill (2380).
  16. What?!?!? If Greeneville or Betsy had the student populations of DB & Science Hill they would be smashing 6A + the privates. Some years they might be able to do that even with a 4A enrollment.
  17. Not sure if this was intended as a dig against Betsy & Greeneville, but they are in 4A because that is where their enrollment landed them. https://cms-files.tssaa.org/documents/tssaa/2022-23/2023classification.html#di-football
  18. Most of us won't be chatting here much for a few months, so here's wishing all you guys a great Christmas weekend & a great 2024.
  19. The 2018 Crockett team (12-1) made it to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual 5A state champion Knox Central. There is just no way a Tri-cities 5A or 6A team is getting past Knox County.
  20. Those were a couple of really good Crockett teams, then the talent level dropped off a cliff and they went back to the same ole mediocrity
  21. With regards to Greeneville & Betsy, those 2 are going to stomp all NET teams 90-something % of the time, so you can't single out DB only. But your overall point is well taken. I still maintain that NET 5A & 6A will never in the foreseeable future get past the Knox County line in the post season. Over the last 10 years here are Elizabethton & Greeneville's losses to local teams (excluding each other): Elizabethton 2022 lost to Science Hill 2017 lost to Boone 2017 lost to Science Hill 2016 lost to Science Hill 2015 lost to Science Hill 2014 lost to Science Hill Greeneville 2020 lost to Boone 2020 lost to Science Hill

  23. The title of this thread "Greeneville 2024 will they compete?" could mean a lot of things, i.e., what defines being able to compete? Does that mean winning the state title? Or getting to the title game? Or winning x number of playoff games? The term "compete" probably means different things to each of us. Here's my thoughts, if by "compete" we mean Greeneville gets to the 3 round then I would say YES, that is highly likely to happen. Greeneville may have a few coaching internal things going on and the usual high school drama, but for at least the past decade they have laid the foundation as a major player in 4A and I do not see that going away any time soon.
  24. I really blew that one... But it sure does narrow down the list for 2024
  25. There are average 48 4A teams each year. Over the past 10 years the following have made the state title game. The probability is very high that the 2024 state title game will feature two of the teams listed below (minus of course Catholic & Central) Anderson County (1) Elizabethton (3) Greeneville (2) Haywood (2) Knox Catholic (1) * moved to Division II in 2019 Knox Central (1) * moved to 5A in 2017 Knox Fulton (1) Memphis East (1) Pearl Cohn (3) * moved to 4A in 2021, 2 title appearances were in 3A Springfield (2) Trezevant (1) Tullahoma (1) Upperman (1) * moved to 4A in 2021
