  1. Brother Martin in New Orleans, LA will host the Trey Culotta Invite on Dec. 20-21, 2021. Last year Christian Bros attended. We are hoping to have them back this coming year. We already have Thompson (AL), Holy Innocents (GA), Eagle's Landing (GA), Holy Cross (LA), and a handful of other schools committed to scrapping. Let me know if you are interested! anicola@brothermartin.com
  2. We will be hosting Bakersfield in our Take It Outside II event on November 14 in Riverside, CA. We make this a free event for all with special guests in attendance. Last year we had an awesome crowd of over 2,600 fans to watch. Check out this cool preview video we put together to promote this year's event! https://www.facebook...034437409920031
  3. Domination I'd like to believe? What are you referring to? I said absolutely nothing about this year. I wasn't on the coaching staff this year so I am not sure where that comment came from. I don't keep up with MTSU. I keep up with Cumberland. I see what you're trying to do there though! I won't act surprised at all that Stewart was in a tight match. The guy was the 1-pt win master this season. Bottom line is he got the job done and your guy didn't. That lineup also didn't include Williams, Meyn was bumped up, and Baysinger was bumped up and the starter (Croley) was out. And oh yeah...the score according to the CU website was 21-18 (not 21-19). But they've been known to have errors in the past too! Have a great day!
  4. Thanks for the love, my friend! Maybe I should apply for that head coaching position! ha
  5. Incorrect...Cumberland beat MTSU quite badly last season (36-9). Keep in mind that Jake Williams, who won the NAIA National Championship last year, was out for this dual and MTSU scored a fall over the backup. And when we were supposed to dual them again later that year they decided to team forfeit to us at the MTSU duals. However, in the 2012-13 season MTSU did beat a Cumberland team that forfeited 3 weights and of the 7 wrestled matches we had 5 starters out (Sandefer, Gallegos, Linton, Johnson, Stewart). And I may be bias, but my guess is that they all would have won their matches.
  6. I haven't seen a lot of signings for TN seniors. We want to keep our in-state kids here in TN! Coaches...there are so many opportunities for you to help your student-athletes move on to the next level and get their education. Wrestling will help keep them on track and headed in the right direction. Cumberland University finished 6th in the country last year and 4th in the country in team GPA. We are headed in the right direction and we want to help build the sport in our state. We want TN kids and yet we have only one stud...Kyle Lee from Franklin. Help open up some doors for your athletes and get them in contact with myself or Coach Allen! 7. Kyle signed with Cumberland University today. He placed 3rd at 120# for Franklin HS this season. Coach Allen was in attendance to sign Lee as a projected 133# for the Bulldogs next season. Welcome to the Bulldog family, Kyle!
  8. We can change that now to 6 All-Americans and 7 Academic All-Americans in 2 seasons! Several of the CU Wrestlers including our 2 National Finalists will be making a trip to this camp as well. Get signed up!

  10. The April clinic at Lebanon HS starts tonight. Practices are every Tuesday and Thursday in the Lebanon HS wrestling room from 6-730. There are 9 practices total. We already have about 30 kids signed up. The cost is $70. I (Coach Nicola, Cumberland University) along with several of my guys will be there leading practices. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or LHS Head Coach Kyle Mitchell. Arrive at around 5:30 if you plan to sign up. I hope to see some middle TN wrestlers taking advantage of this. 11. Our national championships were this past weekend. Cumberland finished a program best 6th in the country!!! The team took 28th in the country with no All-Americans 2 years ago before Coach Allen took over the program. As a first year coach, he mentored CU to a 14th place finish with a program best 3 All-Americans. This year we cut that in over half yet again. The men battled tough and we only graduate one starter! We also, for the first time in school history, had 2 national finalists. Jake Williams won the National Championship at 149# and finished the season 36-2 with 2 NCAA D1 losses (Clarion and North Carolina). Cody Linton lost a heart breaker 5-6 to his MSC foe Jameel Bryant from LWC at 184#. He finished the season 21-4 with 3 of his losses coming from Bryant (all by 1 point). Both of these guys are only juniors. Zeke Hunt is the first and ONLY in Cumberland history to be a 2x All-American (8th last year and 6th this year) AND a 2x Academic All-American. Zeke Hunt and Steven Sandefer were both named Daktronics NAIA Academic All-Americans.
  12. That is incorrect. I am not sure why it says that. He lost by a major decision.
  13. We head to Kansas on Tuesday for the NAIA National Championships which are March 7-8. We qualified 6 for nationals. Jake Williams and Cody Linton are both ranked #2 in the country. Zeke Hunt is ranked #5 and Kyle Delaune #11. Without a doubt we have a shot of getting all 6 on the podium. We placed 4th are regionals behind the teams ranked 2, 7, 8 in the final polls. It will be a great weekend as we plan to make history for the second year in a row by crowing multiple champions for the first time and more than 3 AAs for the first time.
  14. Thanks for your sacrifice, coach! I don't recall seeing any negative comments from your posts & appreciate that. I'm starting to acknowledge & encourage more this kind of approach with positive rating points voted on two of my favorite posts every day. It's a quiet and anonymous way to say thanks for one's input. for what it's worth

I appreciate this message very much so! Tennessee wrestling is growing and I am honored to be a part of it. Our staff and our young men work tirelessly to give TN a good name in all aspects both on and off the mats.

      Again, Thank you!

  15. TN coaches: If anyone is interested in having me for a camp or clinic this off-season, feel free to contact me. I will be doing them all over the country this summer and I am excited to teach some wrestling. As of now I am only going to be at two high schools in TN. April: every Tuesday and Thursday from 6p-730p at Lebanon HS ($70) June 18-20: Rossview HS ($125) I am working out a few details with some other TN schools as well. I'd love to get around to more schools to get word out about our school and to teach some great technique. If you have any questions, let me know.
