  1. Yep, Starnes & Haddix ought to be able to keep Kelly & his sidekick to well below their season average, like we did last year. As I've I said, speed, size and depth, not to mention a very aggressive defense has been our strong points for the last 3-4 years. We shall see if Centennial (or Ravenwood) has an answer!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  2. Well, that is certainly exciting news. I look forward to seeing the Freshman team. Who is coaching them this year?
  3. I couldn't agree with you more. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> The players and their chemistry is what will carry FHS this year. And yes, CHS will probably be their toughest District opponent. There is really no point in debating which is the stronger team. Come Feb. , they both will be moving on from the District to the Region tournament. That is when "the rubber meets the road". Good luck to whichever one of them draws Antioch in the 1st or 2nd round. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  4. Yep, the Antioch team should be very tough for FHS to get past in the Region tournament. Hopefully they won't cross each other until the Region finals. Then all that they are playing for is home court advantage for the Sub-State game.
  5. This is a pretty deep list of talent. I believe that FHS will again have more speed, shooting talent, depth and size than the rest of the district. Another key is the chemistry formed from their AAU play. I rank Centennial @ #2 with Hillsboro and Ravenwood possibly fighting it out for the #3 spot. FHS should be strong in the district for at least 2 more years. Good luck to all! /excl.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":excl:" border="0" alt="excl.gif" />
  6. Coach J certainly had this bunch of over-achievers believing in themselves. Batt was truly an excellent emotional leader on the court. With the experience that many of their sophomores & juniors received this year, look for The REBELS to be a powerhouse team in their District for several years to come!! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  7. We should certainly make it out of district!! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> We'll know more come next Christmas. (Hohoho)
  8. Congrats!! (I'll bet many of the FHS fans are still driving back)
  9. BOTH /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> We gave CHS lots of easy baskets in the paint plus they got hot. We tried to make up ground with threes in the 4th & they just weren't falling. So it got ugly quick! Good luck to CHS in the Boro. Looks like you'll be playing Ridgeway who upset Raleigh Egypt. Is that correct? (I don't have the brackets with me)
  10. Caldwell has certainly come on strong as a pretty consistent point producer since our first meeting but Harper, Henderson & Dowlen are rarely getting into double digits. Meriwether was the most potent weapon that Clarksville had against us the first time. I think that Franklin's depth and number of offensive weapons will be a force to reckon with. Although it was in December, FHS was one of those opponents to score 50+ against Clarksville. Look for it to happen again! We'll just have to see what Monday night brings. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  11. I thought that FHS handled the McGavock pressure very well. Whites Creek stepped into the passing lanes & stepped up the pressure in the 2nd half. That forced FHS into a lot of turnovers & a 10 point swing in the 3rd quarter. Sort of reminded me of the FHS vs. Hillsboro game in the District tournament last year. Our 3 pt. shooting wasn't off as bad as the 0-17 night against McGavoch but it sure wasn't typical FHS either. My prediction is that Coach Johnson will have them well prepared for Clarksville. If the 3's aren't falling, we've got to take it in to the paint. I don't think that Clarksville can contain Batt. And if Young & the Glover boys start driving to the basket, then we won't need to count on the 3's. But I predict a big night for at least one of our beyond-the-arc guns.(Glass, Young or R. Glover) Plus, we have some other young guns who might step up and have a big game. GO REBELS!!!
  12. Well, FHS tried running with Whites Creek for a little while in the second half. I believe as the WC lead grew, they decided on a different strategy. Oh well, on to Clarksville. GO REBELS!!!
  13. Yep, they were ######-poor but missed about as many on both sides. They sure can't be blamed for the FHS loss. I'm REALLY surprised at some of their calls and no-calls, especially @ the Sub-State level. The call over @ the FHS fans side that got (WC?) dude thrown out was about the worst. We obviously tipped the ball out and the ref was right on top of it. And not to sound rascist, but the black ref was THE WORST!!! I was impressed with how level-headed the kids on both sides remained when fans were screaming. There were no "attidudes" or anything close to a "T" getting called on any player that I saw. Just good aggressive hoops. BOTH coaches & their players are to be commended!
  14. We were up by 5 @ the half then down by 5 goin into the 4th quarter. FHS missed a lot of free throws, threes & a few layups. Whites Creek was just a lot quicker, especially the second half. Seemed like we just weren't goin to the ball to meet the pass. Don't know when we've had so much trouble just inbounding the ball. Congrats to Batt, Glass & Young (Sophomore) for their All-Region tournament selection!!! Now lets go to Clarksville and avenge that two point loss that started the season. See ya in Murfreesboro!! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  15. Yep, the crowd was great last night. That is what HS Hoops is all about IMHO. FHS avenged one of their four regular season losses last night. Regardless of what happens tonight, they will get to play MJ or Clarksville in the Sub-State and try to avenge another narrow regular season defeat. We went to Clarksville 2 years ago and defeated a Clarksville team that IMHO was actually more talented. So, I don't know how much that home court means. After tomorrow, all the games are being played in "ONE & DONE" land. GO REBELS" /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  16. Yep, this was the first time that I had seen him this year. If he had Batt's heart & his talents, he could have his pick of several D1 schools. I wonder why he doesn't play with more energy. Do you think that he was nursing some kind of minor injury? The BGA kid who is going to Rice Univ. didn't play with much heart this year either! I actually coached McAdoo in a Church League in Nashville when he was about 8 years old! I could tell that he had some serious talent way back then.
  17. Kelly was perhaps the most consistent post player for his team & was almost certainy more valuable to his team's success. But he didn't have much of a supporting cast with the guards @ Centennial. Kally's point production was certainly higher than Batts. But I guarantee you that Batt will trade a District MVP trophy for the opportunity to play in the Region finals & the Sub-State his Senior year any day. I don't see Kelly getting there with his Cougar crew in the next two years. But if they do, I'll be very proud of them & hope that they represent District 11AAA well.
  18. You are right, FHS was down by five @ the half & still down by 5 goin into the fourth. The Rebels were on fire for the first 2-3 minutes of the fourth. Then McGavock could do no wrong. I felt so sorry for Derek Batt in the last minute when he missed that easy layup & then that first free-throw with 3 seconds left. But he & the Rebels got a reprieve. Could they be the Cinderella team in the State Tournament? Time will tell! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  19. I had to leave the game @ halftime! /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
  20. Can the mighty Rebels from lowly District 11 make it back to THE BORO for the first time since 1989? Can Coach Johnson & the Rebels beat Whites Creek in the Region finals or possibly in a State Finals re-match like they did in '89 when Coach Johnson and Kevin Langley were on the State Championship Rebel team? /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
  21. FHS was up by 5 points going into the 4th quarter. At one point, I believe they had a 7-10 pt. lead. But FHS went the "entire game" without making a 3 pt. shot & Mcgavock fought back & took the lead in the last minute. Derek Batt goes to the foul line with 3.2 seconds left, shooting 2. He misses the first one!!! FHS calls a time out and puts both guards just outside the arc for Batt's intentional miss of the second free throw. Reed Glove (the sophomore- NOT his brother Ryan - as reported in the Tennessean) catches the rebound in mid-air and puts it back in with 1.2 seconds left to send the game into OT. FHS jumps out by 3 or 5 in OT and then makes their free throws down the stretch to win 78 to 75. Reed Glover & Michael Young (both Sophomores) combined for 30 points. Batt led all scorers with 23!! If you would have told me before the game that FHS would win this or any other Region Tournament game without making a three, I would have said that you were crazy. I watched the 1st half of WC vs Antioch. Game was tied 26 to 26 @ the half. Sooth sayers have said all year long that W Creek is unbeatable by the likes of FHS. After their 2 point win tonight, I would say that they are certainly beatable. But regardless, we are goin to the Sub-State to play Mt. Juliet or Clarksville. We lost by 3 to Clarksville in the first scrimmage / Hall of Fame game of the year. We lost to Mt. J by 2 in a game that we should not have lost. IMHO, we were out coached in that loss. So, I really like the chances for FHS to make it back to THE BORO for the first time since 1989!! GO REBELS!!! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  22. I'm pulling for Antioch but I sorta doubt that they or FHS can beat White's Creek. Will WC be State Champs? That should be a BIG question mark??? But I would love for SOMEONE from Middle TN to win it. 1989 is a long dry spell. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  23. Nope, I don't think so. This squad has more heart than even Coach J can squash!!
  24. After Kilcrease & Woods, it looks like Bell & Dixon have been the most consistent in stepping up against "quality competition" for McGavock. I addition to limitting Kilcrease or Woods from having a big game. we need one or two of our "outside guns" to step up. Glass seems to have shown a lot of Senior leadership in recent games. If one or both of our "young guns" gets hot to go along with Batt & the Sr. Glover, I believe that FHS could win by 5-10 or more. Lately the key to FHS success has been Batt. If Batt gets in early foul trouble (Johnson always sits a player in the 1st half if he gets 2 fouls) then it could be a long night for FHS. GO REBELS!!! /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  25. Yep that sounds pretty lame, allright. But one can't count on the FHS Administration to get fired up for a pep rally unless we maybe make it to the State Finals, like the football team did. Sounds like the football team pep rally on the square 2 years ago was better than this one at the school. Lame Admin. = lame pep rally.
