  1. You really love those Memphis kids don't you soccerpimp, by the way what is that a name from 8th grade? here are my predictions: Murphy Oliver Elsea Gray... finally Connell Olsen Marchetti... also finally baker Popp Parker Hoodenpyle... not as close as the first one still a regular decision garston mason cook I would really like to see mason win OW but we all know he won't receive the award. His match streak is about 120 or 121 right now which is awesome. Sure BA doesn't wrestle anything near the competition that CBHS does. Baker is a machine and no one compares to his abilities in DI or DII this year.
  2. For those of you that picked cook in the finals at 220 look closer. Cook is entered at 285 with the 2 seed.
  3. correct connell lost 9-7 to akers in the regular season dual but defeated him 7-1 on friday night
  4. any word on why clements didn't wrestle hoodenpyle yesterday? why forfeit at 182 if you can wrestle? was he injured? will brunner go up to 138 now? I seriously doubt he will, he doesn't seem like the type to run.
  5. A bye? Really? How does that come about?
  6. Baylor wins 33-19 Match started at 145 Holloway B dec Davis M 4-1 Sutherland B maj. dec. Patton M 8-0 Popp B tech fall Bong M 18-2 Parker B Maj. Dec McCroskey M 14-5 Hoodenpyle M dec. Clements B 3-1 OT Baylor wins 195 3-2 Cook M dec Baylor kid 5-3 Baylor wins 285 in Sudden Victory Murphy B dec Cornell 9-4 Westbrooks M dec Canada 7-1 Baylor dec Boyd Connell pins Brunner pins jones Keys for Baylor were having sutherland and holloway back obviously. Wished we could have seen a Connell and Brunner match up but I understand that it's better for Brunner to not wrestle Connell as far as seedings go. Clements looked weak and tired, probably wasn't ready to come back. McCallie didn't get bonus points when they were expected to.
  7. I still remember the rather un-classy show boating Clements did after pinning his opponent last year. I think Alex Kent was the McCallie wrestler when the two met on the mat with the dual meet already one. They wrestled hard until the third period when Clements stuck Kent just as we were all expecting. Having watched him wrestle all his life, the way he celebrated that win was not how I remembered him winning when he was a Blue Tornado. As a McCallie fan, it wouldn't surprise me to see Hoodenpyle whoop up on him. Just because he is so much bigger and works extremely hard. It would also surprise me to see Houston not wrestle. He already missed one Blue-Red dual meet in his high school career, he surely doesn't want to miss his last. If he is good to go, even 80% I think we will see him on the mat tomorrow night. Why would he not want to help his team out and get the win. In regards to ghouse's post on Baylor not wanting to win, thats blasphemous between these two schools. McCallie hasn't beaten Baylor in a dual meet since what, 2006 state duals? When was the last time McCallie actually WON the regular season dual. Crazy things can happen in this match. From Youngblood pinning Mackey, to Brunner defensive pinning Westbrooks last year. I think it will prove to be all about the bonus points, just like it has in years past.
  8. No one ever said they can't use it back, they just don't. Kinda like the old time Mccallie saying, "Born on a riverbank, raised on a log. Looks like a redneck, smells like a hog. Sewie Baylor Sewie." It's a rivalry. Anyway, I'm excited to see these two teams battle it out. Any more information on the red team's injured wrestlers? PS. There will be 40 tickets sold at the visitor's gate @4pm tomorrow. Match @6.
  9. Baylorparent, I don't think anyone was questioning Houston's toughness, just complimenting Popp on being tougher. Everyone knows Houston's story and I don't want this thread to be about that. It doesn't surprise me that Popp would defeat Houston in a challenge match. The kid as the work ethic and desire that I would compare to former McCallie wrestler Alex Ward. He believes in himself and that's what makes him such a great wrestler. As for your predictions, if Powell, Sutherland, Holloway, and Clements make it back, obviously the tables turn. However, if Clements weighs in at 160 and bumps up to wrestle 182, I see Hoodenpyle beating him just because of the size difference. Cook will pin at 220, no question about that. Unless we see a rematch of the Payne-Youngblood match in this dual last year. Where the Baylor wrestler dances around the mat and doesn't let the McCallie wrestler gets his tie. (Not trying to pick a fight, it's great coaching and it worked.)
  10. This upcoming Friday the two teams will wrestle in their annual dual meet at Baylor. Not a lot of highlight matches to look for in this one, except for Connell and Brunner at 132. I hope that that match actually happens and neither coach changes up their lineup so it doesn't happen. I was hoping to see these two fine young men go at it at McCallie and again at the Prep Slam but they were put on opposite sides of the bracket each time. With the line up Baylor put out at the Prep Slam this week I think I have to take McCallie, but I am sure the red raider coach was holding some of his guys out "just to be careful." Interesting to see if Sutherland, Clements, Hollaway return to wrestle for the red raiders. I hear Popp challenged Clements and beat him out at 160 and now Clements is injured again. Hate it for that young man if it is true. I know he can find a spot in that lineup. Here is the head to head with this weekends Prep Slam lineups. WC Baylor- McCallie 106 Michael Murphy vs Addison Cornell 113 Caleb Canada vs James Westbrooks 120 ____________ vs Alex Elsea 126 Nick Standefer vs Mathes Boyd 132 Brandon Brunner vs Adam Connell 138 Turner Troxwell vs Griffin Davis 145 Thomas Plantin vs Matthew Jones 152 Aidan Garron vs Will Patton 160 Bryson Popp vs Calum McCroskey 170 Ryan Parker vs Ariel Bong 182 Connor reineche vs Nathan Hoodenpyle 195 Wynston Cooper vs Jay Roberts 220 Jon Schmissrauter vs Casey Cook 285 Will Thomas vs _________ 106 Bay. 11. I'm shocked that this tournament went from being one of the toughest tournaments in the Southeast, to what it is now. Missing quality competitors such as Calvary Chapel, the Kiski School, Archbishop Rummel, Bishop Lynch, this tournament is weak. I might be wrong but I feel like last year there were 45+ teams at the Prep Slam. While the Tennessee Schools still won it every year, it was much tougher. As of right now, before the finals this afternoon, the standings go Father Ryan, McCallie, Baylor. McCallie and Baylor both seem to have wrestled great tournaments, but the competition is down compared to what it has been.
  12. Michael Hooker broke Alex Manley's (Baylor) record last year. Manley had 228, Hooker surpassed that with his win in finals of the Clinch Gear Prep Slam.
  13. Congratulations to McCallie on winning the Heart of Dixie Classic down in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Team Scores: 1. McCallie, TN Mccallie School, TN 752.0 2. The first day consists 2 groups of 6 wrestlers wrestling in a round robin format. Their win/loss records from the first day determine their seeding in a combined 8 man tournament on the second day. Congratulations to the Big Blue!
