Dresden in 2012 went to the 2A state championship with four or five sophomores starting all season. Possible a couple more. Granted we had a group of studs in the senior class and some very good juniors. They also got smoked by the best team money could buy that year in Friendship Christian. Senior leadership is important but I don't think you have to have nine seniors starting on each side of the ball to win it all. The 2016 Dresden class started playing peewee together and didn't lose anyone in that core group of nine or ten kids throughout their years at Dresden. That doesn't happen often.
They also got smoked by a 1a school that year too. 2a was very weak that year in the west. But I think it was 2011. But they got smoked both years by that 1a team.

All the practice games are over the real football starts Friday night. Believe the Mustangs end McKenzie’s little winning run this Friday night.

Seems like these next 2 years are gold ball or bust for Swenson. Stable is full of Mustangs who have been in the system since pee wee ball. Let's see if he can add to the 1 gold ball trophy case
That’s been said just about every year Swenson’s been here. And so far just a little silver has been added.

Huntingdon’s blocking is going to have to improve greatly by the line and backs. Defensively they looked good but need to work on conditioning.

No, the class that just graduated. Huntingdon is going to be a machine for the forseable future. I know that 8th grade bunch from a couple of years ago were really good. And, so much returning from last year.
Ok I just mis read it. I thought you were talking about one of the classes this year.

On experience, Hutingdon has the advantage for sure. They return a lot of Mustangs. McKenzie is in the rebuilding of probably the best class to ever come through. The offensive line is going to be key. That is said every year, but this year, it is even more so.
Which class the freshmen coming up?

Might as well get it started I like the Mustangs in this one.

I don’t know about that.
I been around Huntingdon football for 60 years. Huntingdon/ Milan games hardly ever live up to the hype.

There is a lot more at stake again with Huntingdon/Milan being in the same district. The Milan/SG game is just for bragging. Same with Huntingdon/McKenzie. I may be wrong, but I don’t think McKenzie will hang with Huntingdon for next several years.
if you asked the players right now who they’d rather beat in the regular season,I bet 90% would say mckenzie.

Mustangs should be pretty good this year but next year could be the year.

I can remember a time Huntingdon/Bruceton was standing room only.

One week away from some pads popping!

Heard Huntingdon looked real good against lake co. in 7 on 7 today. Said Warbritton and Eubanks looked real good hooking up on several passes.
-
Anybody know if Huntingdon has a 7 on 7 at home this week?
-
Anybody see the 7 on 7 in camden?

What’s happened to the one that started this thread ambassador?

Looks like the non region games are McKenzie, Columbia academy and Crockett County.
Should look like this ;
AUG 18 - @ McKenzie
AUG 25 - @ Columbia Academy
SEPT 1 - ADAMSVILLE
SEPT 8 - OPEN
SEPT 15 - CROCKETT COUNTY
SEPT 22 - @ MILAN
SEPT 29 - RIVERSIDE
OCT 6 - @ JCM
OCT 13 - GIBSON COUNTY
OCT 20 - @ CAMDEN
OCT 27 - TRENTON PEABODY
I heard union city and Martin refused to play Huntingdon since they weren’t in the same region anymore.

Huntingdon should be considered a favorite in 2a. But they have been a favorite several times in the last decade and haven’t pull it off yet. Could be the year.

Stangs were young this year and overachieved, IMO. They really need to get over the hump, and hope 2023 is that year. The past decade, they have had several opportunities to win the gold ball. Eubanks is just the next in line of great QBs they have had running that offense - Warbritton, Pearson, Ensley - Hope Gray can get it done. Seems like they have always ran into a another "once in a decade or 25 year team" in the quarters or semifinals (Cornersville, Lake County come to mind)
I know Swenson is married to that offense, but Eubanks in an RPO system would be incredible. Same with Ensley.
You mentioned Warbritton there’s one on this team. don’t understand why he didn’t get more touches on offense this year. He’s the only one that kelp Huntingdon in the game against Riverside.

I believe Mustangs should win their new region. Returning their best players from this season and getting some back that were hurt this year. Rumor is getting a “big”playmaker back that didn’t play this year.

Hearing Swenson won’t be back next year

Tyner slings it around.
They better be able to block #24

If Tyner offense is run heavy Riverside wins. If Tyner is a passing offense Tyner wins.
2023 Huntingdon Mustangs
in Class 1A & Class 2A

After two scrimmages and a jamboree the Mustangs defense has looked pretty good. Starters only giving up three scores. I think that was because Huntingdon has a lot players playing both ways and the conditioning in this heat is not quite there yet. The offense looks like it’s coming around after moving some players around to different positions.
