  1. Speaking of big "guns" wait until folks see the result of Coach Waters efforts. Today was Max outs. Wow, is all I can say. Never seen a group do this across the board. Ritchie Cunningham is a bad man is all I can say.
  2. shhh, Jabron. We dont have any players over here. Just slow, weak no name kids, "Ritchie Cunninghams" eating chocolate doughnuts, playing x box and laying by the pool all summer.
  3. lol, a good deal of truth in that. We've beat plenty of "big guns" by doing just that.
  4. What does Maryville have to do to keep it close against Webb's superior athletes? Do exactly what the Spurs have been doing to "Stars" of the Miami Heat and "The Greatest Player On The Planet." Bust our butts all summer together getting stronger and quicker and achieve a level of fitness and commitment to each other so that no matter who is on the field, big name or no names, we impose our will. Each player to do his job for 4 quarters playing for the group not his "star" status and press clippings or Max Prep ranking. Knox area fans will show up expecting to see the "stars" of Knox Webb give us a beatdown on our field. Reporters will be lined up hoping to do interviews with the "stars" D1 coaches and scouts will be in attendance. People will want to see "next level" athletes put on a clinic. I hope our players realize this and are preparing mind and body now for another opponent and a bunch of Knox area fans who think this is state and want to see us humiliated. Webb will have the best Defense in Webb School history and arguably the most talented D in the state this year on all levels. Webb is the top team in Knoxville this year and the most diciplined. It's what our team is committed to doing now that will determine how this game and season will end. "Every battle is won long before it is ever fought."--Sun-tzu, The Art of War
  5. Webb will have the best Defense we will see all year until the finals. They will be the most diciplined team we face. If they played Alcoa again this year they would win. Would like to see a Webb v Fulton game this season as both are loaded. Webb would win convincingly IMO as they have better fundamentals and execution.
  6. It's hard for any team to get to state each year. We'll see someone other than Whitehaven. Maybe Mt Juliet or a Rutherford county team though we usually see them in the Semi's. Siegal's shot was last year.
  7. Meske will have his playmakers in some creative situations for this one with a little bit of "junk" thrown in on O. Should be a good chess match. He"s gonna have a geat season with his group of seniors (around 6 or so were all state as juniors! They can flat play.). Webb fans are in for a special season. I'll be pulling for them as usual all season except one particular Friday night.
  8. Good point. 2005 was loaded. Watching that team execute was a pleasure. We'll have a back that looks and plays like Baker this season. The young man has spent some quality time in the gym. I think he's already squatted around 475lbs. Him and 4 year starter Prevo gonna be a big problem for D's.
  9. That's right, forgot it's our turn this year. In our house. Even better.
  10. Ron is right, those were stout teams. 2011 team avg'd 40 ppg in playoffs and only Riverdale got one TD on our starters. if I remember right. Bearden 35-0, SH 45-7, SC 41-7, Riverdale 42-14. Most teams never scored on our starting D that year including at state against the best. Memphis (avg 35 ppg 39-7 Germatown, 24-14 Arlington, 34-14 WS, 44-10 Mt Juliet) WH coach said their D was one of the best nationally and they were the fastest team in TN. After that game the media asked GQ if this was the best D group he'd ever coached and he said it'd be hard to argue that it wasn't and it was as good a team we've ever had defensively based on how they shut out the Whitehaven O and Dodson who had 1890 yards and 28 TD's coming into state final. That team he said was awesome and loaded with seniors. We never needed Jay or Brandon to load the D line on a goal line stand or to stop a 4th and inches. BTW both of those guys were dead even in practice in one on ones against each other. You can't project what a jr class or any class will do against what a previous class has earned. It's useless talk. Our jrs and sr's havent earned anything yet. One thing is certain, the bar was set high by those who paved the way for these groups coming up.
  11. No, not even close. QB, OL, LB, DL, RB secondary etc. That 2011 team was an animal and the D was so good and loaded the coaches didnt even consider using our two 285lb O linemen on D who could have stopped anyone.] Watson was a LB playing DE and very physical, STRONG, fast and tougher than most I've seen. West was a LB that they used to lead block for Prevo and he smashed anyone in front of him. Everyone saw what the high powered Memphis O did to our D last year. Compare that to 2011 where they couldnt get in our endzone. Our juniors have "potential" but not on same level when you look at the body of work by 2011 team. They knew they were going to win every game. Very badass team. Our juniors have a lot of work to do to earn that kind of respect and toughness. Back on topic. Who will be Webb's quarterback? Meske will have a few junk plays I think from the qb position ie TK's td pass last time. The crowd and seating for this game will be poor at Alcoa with all the other games that day and people hanging around wanting to see this one.
  12. Gave an overview in the initial post. Nothing to be added. It is spring. People outside of Maryville may be surprised how little the players and parent/fans even talk about football even during the season. Not a lot of rah rah. Just show up and excute.
  13. Webb has what I call a "special" team this year with all those athletes and senior leadership. We'll only see a D like this at state. No one who knows anything about the 2013 Webb team will be surprised at the fight they will bring. Opponents or teams like this don't form overnight. It took years to build it. Meseke told me about 5 or 6 years ago at his camp that he was trying to get to where Maryville was and I'm sure he is liking his chances against us this year. Hat's off and respect to him for building what he has built with his program. Like the Seigal team, we knew going in that they were built for that one year and they were special. Webb is like that this year. Their pulling guards punish defences and that defence is in a league of its own. However, I wouldnt bet against us folks.
  14. 5 players on Webbs D would earn a spot on any area team or classification. They are exceptional and few teams will score on them this year. Campbell and Thomas, I think both will be senior D Ends. Strachan a physical RB/LB. Add Kelly and Mitchell in that mix and it should be a stiff defense with a good deal of swagger. Webb will have one of the top Defences on any level statewide. Probably their school's best ever Imo. What toll playing both ways will take idk but that defence is not a typical Knoxville team's D. They will be the best coming out of Knoxville and maybe one of the state's best.
  15. Aww, Webb fans are cool. We stayed too and was in the middle of them same as in many games over the years at Webb. Good folks.
  16. Webb's line has been very quick, disciplined and athletic since middle school. Meske coaches them up and makes them better every year. Always saw your line as the team's strength and the head of the snake if you will. As goes Webb's line (consistently good) so goes Webb. What they did against Alcoa last year was impressive and they nearly whipped them at their own game. Physical. DE's and LB's returning starters, seniors?
  17. How many Webb linemen went both ways last year and how many will play both ways this year? How many will be seniors this year?
  18. Webb is a very athletic, conditioned, hard nosed, intelligent, disciplined well coached ball team. Anyone who knows anything about them knows they play with pride (ask Alcoa). This game will be a challange for us, particularily at the start of the season as Maryville gets stronger as the season progresses and playoffs near. It will be close and low scoring and the 4th quarter is when things get cranked up.
  19. Last year we only had one returning starter on oline and everyone questioned them in preseason and they had a banner year scoring. Expect the same this year. We will probably be a little better than last year if everyone is healthy. They are already stronger and quicker. Half of Whitehaven's team were D1 recruits and we did ok the last two years. Miller is chippy and will shine at TE not a concern. Coulter could stick as well as any. He'll be missed. Coach Meske is a great coach and better person. Known him for years. Always pull for his Webb team except against us.
  20. Garret, like Myers, could help at corner in critical situations as needed. The above post was spot on in that receiver is a much more critical need for more playmakers. If you've seen Vaught slice through the D with his running abilities, he would be a threat after the catch. I see short passes with big yards after the catch. Edmiston would have given opposing D's fits at receiver along with Carrol and Vaught Imo. That would have been or could possibly be a formidable group and with a tall Miller at TE as a threat. Match that with our running game and that O will score often.
  21. Can only get jacked up for football. Would fall asleep watching baseball.
  22. Not overkill. We needed to get stronger and better conditioned a few years ago as ALCOA and 6A teams were considerably more capable than us with strength and physicality. Our coaches made changes that are starting to be seen and will take full effect in another year or so as it takes years to build and see the results across the board of a great strength and conditioning program. In our family, we've always worked out together since mine were small so it was already a lifestyle and not an adjustment at all. What is great to see is kids who didn't use to hit it hard before high school catch up and be equally as strong now because of team supervised workouts at school.
  23. Edmiston at 6'4" would have helped considerably at WR as a big target and punting/back up QB. Taylor and Housely on D line adding depth. The long grind, conditioning and physicality isn't for everyone though.
  24. Red Rebels, #60 is fighting for that first chair in viola section with two year starter and stalwart Luna graduating on orchestra scholarship this season lol Seriously, I love our orchestra! Band, not so much. DB band? Yes... Peazy leads by example, sees the court and field well (last two years MVP in hoops) and less turnovers as Sr. leadership is a factor on any great HS team. Vaught has another year to develope before driving that big red bus against those Memphis D's we face at state. Vaught's elusiveness and running ability will be hard to stop when they do go to him. As always, our coaches will play to our team strengths.
