Carson Newman alumni, played baseball and football after graduating from Carson Newman. He went to coach at his former high school, Troup High School in Georgia, in 2009, after that season, he went to be a coordinator at Woodstock High School in 2010 before becoming the head coach in 2015 through 2018. He was hired at Greenville High School in Georgia as the athletic director and football coach. He stayed there from 2019–21 before taking a coordinator job at Warner University in 2022 before leaving there and taking a job at Valdosta. In one year, he took Valdosta to the playoffs, where they lost to Powerhouse. Carrollton 28-45, Hardin Valley does not have it easy, especially in their region, with schools like Bearden, Maryville, Farragut, Cleveland, and Bradley Central, but that didn’t deter him at all. At least according to people I’ve talked to, he has built programs up from literally nothing, from coaching new high schools to old high schools to rich history high schools. He’s been everywhere in Georgia, I think this is a really good hire for Hardin Valley.

Great info Elias, honestly this would have been a better fit for knox Central with their rich history in football and a place just needing a great coach because the players are there. I'm not sold Nick Saben can change the culture at HVA because it's been in them to long.

I’ve not heard much football talk from 825. That hoops team seems to have turned things around this year. Everybody gearing up for track.

It has been a very quiet few months. The only thing coming out of that place since football season ended has been the Basketball team, the article about the vouchers and the lady wanting to remove a book from the library that wasn't suitable for 15 and 16 year olds to read but the director of schools and the board are ok with it.

Something should happen this week at Central. Students are still out tomorrow,  but Central Office is back open.

Probably be a while, still, on HVA, not until they get an AD in place and up to speed.

Surley one of the assistant coaches are conducting winter work outs or as I said earlier they could have a 25 man football team. Who would want to waste their time on the unknown at HVA.

That’s crazy to say. His son couldn’t hold kippy’s jock strap. King Berrong didn’t have any real winning until Sweetwater finally integrated. Berrong was carried by Anthony Oggs and the rest of those stud athletes like kippy & his family. Go look at King’s coaching record. His talent who learned how to play football before they got to him made him look good.

Apparently you didn't understand what I said. Berrong coached from 51 to 74 and no parent was going to do to him what those parents did to Slover.

  5. Not heard much of anything regarding the football team since the last game played. The only news coming out of Maryville High is about Vouchers and a book someone wants pulled from the library shelf because they feel it's to not appropriate for 15-16 year olds to read but the board and the director of schools see different. Funny how all this has changed since my day's at Maryville High because every bit of this would be in reverse. Back to football, I would love to see Derek do a podcast on what's going on and give some updates on 2024. I really enjoyed all of Derek's podcast last season and looking forward to watching more this year. He does a great interview and if you haven't ever seen one I suggest to go to you tube and watch a few.

HVA may have a tough time doing interviews for the open head football job with the AD on Admin leave. Whole school and athletic program is suffering right now

The only reason I didn't pick HVA as the 6A Dumpster Fire award was simply due to Jeff Miner who is a good defensive coach and I can't blame him for stepping down. Who would want their image tarnished over that place. They had inproved his second year but now I can say for sure HVA is the biggest Dumpster Fire in East Tennessee 6A.

Sometime you just have to brave the elements and unpopular aspects of the job ahead of you and make a decision that's best instead of delaying the inevitable.

Most definitely, I wouldn't be surprised if they had tabbed a couple people for the job and they couldn't get it to work out instead of looking at the applications in front of them which most likely have found jobs or at least the good ones.

  8. Someone gave me a copy of their William Blount Football Program yesterday and I was very happy to see they have Grasshoppers, Pee-Wees and Midget Programs now plus the Middle School Program. I don't keep up with those as much because you can't find anything out unless you have someone connected to one of those programs because our hometown newspaper is very lacking in this department. Glad to see those programs in place and another reason I feel Robert Reeves was the right man for the job. I know it will take time but so far I'm impressed. I honestly didn't see them winning but one game based off the first season but what a turn around.

They getting talent in there now?

A lot of those boys haven't played before buthad they went on to another school most still wouldn't be playing. They have unbelievable size on the line. Their best defensive player most say could start at either Maryville or Alcoa. Blount County was mostly small schools before they made a mistake and built Heritage and William Blount. Walland was the 1A state champion in 1975 before it went into Heritage and that was when there were only 3 classes. The great thing about this is getting back to our roots and enjoying small time football the way it should be.

Interesting...Is that a before and after pic?  If so...talk about going from nothing to something...

Yes it is Larry. They would never stand a chance of getting any kids to come there if they were still playing on that cow pasture in the upper picture.

Interesting to hear that some supporters/alums apparently went Schiano Sumday on one of the alleged candidates.

As i have said before,  what happens in college football eventually filters down to high school football.

    The world's gone mad.

Something has happened behind the scenes at Meigs. Youre not going to be an assistant for as long as he was, and finally get the head coaching job like he did, and have a 12-1 season your first year to give it up to go to a dumpster fire like Sweetwater is. Everyone knows what happened at Sweetwater and how the previous coach was treated. Im sure i could find out what happened, but honestly I just dont care. It has to be bad to choose Sweetwater over what he had despite a talent level drop. That's just my opinion and assumption honestly. Nothing more. Again I wish him well. It will be funny though if we Continue the streak against Sweetwater next year. :roflol:

That being said I'm pretty sure we pay the head coach for football pretty good at Meigs. Ive heard the figure not that its entirely  accurate, but considering the amount we should be able to to afford a proven individual if one is available. Ofcourse we could get someone on staff again you never know.

Your 100% right, something behind the scenes has had to happen, you don't leave because you see a bump in the road coming up. The entire system in Monroe County is a total dumpster fire and at one time Sweetwater managed through it okay but the dam finally broke on them last year. We all know how the principal got her position there and so on and so forth. I don't have to repeat myself if you read my last post. The people involved with last years fiasco should be ashamed themselves but they'll just shake it off like nothing ever happened and get ready to micromanage the new coach. Before I would move into that situation I would have came up the road another 35-40 miles and applied for one of the openings in the Knoxville area and with a 12-1 record the coach would have found a decent job somewhere.

  13. Surprised but not surprised they found them a decent coach but I guess with in a lot of diffucult situations it never fails someone pops up and says "Here Hold My Beer". If that were me taking that job those assistants would have to hit the road and the parents that created this mess have two choices , keep your pie hole shut or stay at home on Friday Night. All I can say is good luck in putting this dumpster fire out and if you don't that will be two coaches in a row that gave up a lot to get nothing in return.

We’ll be fine Barn. Excited to see these two trade in the Florida Gators colors for the Silver and Blue!

I still have a lot of good memories and really want the best for this program, Had the best times going to places I had never been and opened my eyes to a lot of the smaller schools. Won't ever forget.

They gave up a ton of points in their tenure at CCHS. I think this will be the biggest challenge they will face getting enough quality depth and not have to use too many two way players.  They will make football fun on the offensive side and you will see remarkable improvement there and marketing the program. They will get more players out and their fundraising strategies will be off the charts.

Was hoping they may pick up a good defensive coach that is available but what do I know about football only been a season ticket holder of the winningest program in the State of Tennessee for all my life besides the ones I played there. If your defense is bad you'll be in for a rough ride
