1. Tenesha Campbell from Northwest seems to be on top of the rankings. There seems to be a lot of girls throwing 110-120 in discus and 34-38 in the shot. Both could be a dogfight. Last year's discus winner Courtney Barnett (Sullivan Central) is a senior this year but struggling through knee problems. Sarah Canter (Bearden)could win discus if she has a good day. Jasmine Foster (Science Hill) has throw 117 and 38'10" and could be a huge factor. I think it is wide open for both this year. We'll know a lot more after sectionals.

  2. QUOTE(bulldogcoach23 @ Feb 27 2007 - 01:20 PM) 826391736i think it would be good. it needs to be done in all sports. very small schools and very large schools can be put into a fair category, because very small schools do not have as large a student population. . schools have the option to play in a higher classification.

As soon as the TSSAA can come up with a plan to make more $$$$$ and also convince everyone it is in their best interest then you may see more classifications. Just like the opening games of the regionals being on home courts, how much $$$$$$ did that make them. But how did it effect those who like to see all the games??? They don't care, bottom line is always $$$$$$$$$$. 20+ years at the state tournament has made it clear to me.

  3. QUOTE(DBWATCHDOG @ Feb 22 2007 - 10:58 AM) 826384349Now you say 3 years, it was 4. Do I hear 2? SL was not always the leading scorer her first 2 years. Jervis was many, many times as was Snead. Many games Autumn and Horton contributed to the score thanks to picks. "Don't know why they left"?. You will find out in time. The team has averaged about 3 seniors for many years. Why do so many of these girls get plenty of playing time as underclass and not stick with it? Only 2 out the 5 played this year. There is a common thread year after year and it is not because of one player as you would like to think it is. You chastise me for pointing to coaching as the problem, but you say you are not a fan and never will be of the coach. I dont get it? No, it is not too late to change. Your tone will change too. Not a parent nor family friend, obviously different from your perspective. I'm just somebody that goes to different sports boys/girls games in the area. Primarily DB because of consistency of programs and their facilities. I think SL will be playing next year, some local small college. I hope your girls will stick together but history says that will not happen. My term as Pres. has expired and was thinking about campaigning for your player (daughter?), but I'm sure you will give Pelosi the job. It could be worse, you could have South Greene's coach!!

What are you smoking???? I have no ties to the DB program. But I have followed it closely. Who led DB in scoring (total points) the last 4 years? Please send Roger a thank you card from the Lawson family. What were you Pres. for the Wellmont Mental Outpatients?????? Go back to sleep!!!!!!

  4. Yea too bad all games are at different sites. Just more $$$$$$ for the money hungry TSSAA. My picks will be Tn. High vs. SH, and probably Greeneville vs. DB.

If I had to pick one of the top seeds to get upset it would be it would be Tn. High or Greeneville. Look for SH to take Tn High on a neutral court and DB to take Greeneville (mostly due to coaching or the lack thereof) and meet for the Regional crown. DB wins round 3 but no one from this region makes it to the big dance in M'boro.

Guess we'll see. Good luck to all Dist. One teams!!!!!

  5. QUOTE(DBWATCHDOG @ Feb 20 2007 - 09:16 AM) 826380690WRONG! For the first several years on offense she would come out to the foul line and set picks. She even stood in one place spinning to set picks never moving down low until after a shot. I dont think Jill played varsity all 4 years. "Getting the ball up the court"...only when there wasnt a press!! You still didnt explain why 2 starters left, as well as, why DB has been so bad for 10 years? (Lawson has only been there 4) DB should be more competitive and it does start with the coach! As far as your bet, I'm sure you took the Bears. Easy money! Go play your gameboy!

WRONG AGAIN WATCHDOG!!!!! First 3 years get the ball to Sabra, run a play for Sabra, etc. etc. Who did she set screens for??? No one else scored much so there weren't many screens set. 5 freshmen were on varsity Sabra, Danielle, Jill, Autumn, and Christine. I don't know why they left!!! Personal choices I suppose. Your knowledge of the game is a little scewed, Sabra was not the answer to breaking presses. I will say I am not and never will be a fan of Coach F. but he let Sabra score more and play more than most coaches would have. She spends too much time looking to the stands for mommy and daddy to keep her head in the ballgame. Are you the president of her fan club? Good luck to her if she plays college ball. With or without a new coach, things will be better next year. If things were bad for 10 years it's a little late to correct it now. Girls sports in general take a back seat to the boys that's just the way it is. At DB, East, Volunteer, Central, SH, East, Crockett, THS, and South the only ones who care for the girls sports are the girls families and closest friends. Can I borrow your Gameboy?????

  6. QUOTE(DBWATCHDOG @ Feb 16 2007 - 10:35 AM) 826374340The only thing that stopped Sabra Lawson was her coach! She carried not only the team but the coach!! They continued to take L's against any team that would press. Lawson was one of the best ball handlers on the team, but never touched it during a press. Why have they not been anygood for 10 years? Lets see, what is the constant in this problem? It starts with F and it is not feeder program? Good head coaches find a way to develope feeder programs. Why is it Lawson is the only Sr to play 4 years at DB? One transferred and another one had enough. Again, the answer starts with F. Female athletics is not a priority at DB unless it is cheerleading or dance. They never will be. Put lawson on THS or SHHS there would be no question who the best player is. PS The Big 9 doesnt need South Geeenes girls basketball coach!!!

Let's set the record straight DBWATCHDOG. The only thing that made Sabra look good was the COACH. For 4 years he has designed his whole offense for her to score. She owes him a lot for making her look better than she is. Lawson also is NOT the only senior to play 4 years at DB. Did you forget Jill Childress?? Put Lawson on THS or SH and she might average 8-10 points a game if that. Her game consists of catch it on the block, then turn and shoot. That's it. At THS or SH she might of been lucky to start or even be on the team with her wonderful attitude. Lawson is not the best player in the conference and not even the best player on her team!!! I would take Blaine any day over Sabra because she is a more complete player, Offense, Defense, and Rebounding. Without Tori getting the ball up the court DB would have taken several more L's this year. Don't get on here and try to blame DB's problems on the coach. Basketball is a TEAM game and when one player tries to be more than the team there will be problems. I saw it for 4 years. Let's see if they do better next year without her. I bet they do.

Montgomery is the Player of the YEAR!!!!

  7. I'm not a fan of either school so I would be considered unbiased. They have the same record so it is considered a tie. D.B. gets the tiebreaker for the #1 seed by virtue of it's 2 wins over J.C. If they beat them for the district title they will be the district champions until then like it or not they are conference co-champions. Sorry!!!!!!

Key for D.B. stay away from J.C. and Greenville in the region.

  8. omar had an off night shooting against central.....he has had a bad ankle ever since the lenior city game and he is not 100 percent...that can throw off his shooting....i would take wattad over wiggins....omar cares more about winning than his own individual performace and he plays with heart and he gets bagged my fans and refs everywhere he goes in the big 9 conference....

Omar is a good sound and smart player, I just think his skills have not improved that much in the last couple of years. Please don't hand me the crap about refs and fans. The refs don't care and the fans are part of the game atmosphere and you just have to deal with it.

As bad as Central's students can be, Science Hill's students need to be disciplined for their actions Tuesday night.

  9. Take Wiggins he is on his way Up, while Omar has passed his peak. He is still a good ballplayer but theres not much upside to taking him.

Omar got all his points against Central by being left alone when his man helped out on defense and he got wide open layups and a Dunk. There was no creating shots and in your face play.

  10. Why are they having the jamboree at East? It looks like they would pick a more central location for the conference, maybe Central, Boone?

No offense to Sullivan East but I am sure they would not want to drive all the way to Volunteer to see a jamboree. I will probably pass on this one, I'll see plenty once the season starts anyway.

Do the schools "bid" on the jamborees and tournaments?

Jamboree is at East so we can go to Ridgewood and get a Barbeque before we checkout the teams.

  11. The Real sory is it will be a LONG year for THS and CHS. I think both teams fans need to be realistic and expect a tough season. If either make it to regionals it will be a good year for them.

Phil and Gabe kept the heat off Hess the last two years now the Heat will be on big time. He can't do it by himself.

Oh well at least you will win a lot more games than the football team.

For THS good luck, you may not win more games than the football team!!!!!

  12. I think I have a solution for the TRIBE. Install some more marble and jacuzzi's in the new field house or better yet build a 10 million dollar indoor practice facility. That should at least get the tribe a game or two into the playoffs.

Oh Well, Same ole song in Kingsport.

Note to fans:: Do not believe those AP polls.

    Better luck in basketball!!!

  13. If you followed this team very closely you would know that they do have a 6'5 post player coming back who played well at the end of last year and played well all summer. Plus a few players from the JV last year who have waited their turn.

Maybe we could go back to the old slow down ball that Central used to play before Vaughn started coaching. That sure was fun to be a part of.

Is Andrew the 6'5 post??? Who are these JV players??? Hope you are right since I would much rather see Central win than any other Big 9 team, but I've seen a lot of ball and I'm not sure the Cougars are quite there this year. Time will tell.

    Good Luck!!!!

  14. Let's face the facts Central has had a few good years but has lost a lot of scoring. Hess and Baker are about all the Cougars have back. They will stuggle inside and if Vaughn uses that useless press he is so fond of they will give up layups all night. I say Central will struggle to make the regionals. Not bashing the Cougars, I just don't see it happening. After a few games I will reevaluate them and give you a more updated opinion.

South had size last year and where did it get them?????

  15. When I saw Science Hill this summer several of the players looked a little slower. It looked like maybe they had put on some weight in the off season. I guess when they get in playing shape this will change. But as a rule as girls get older and mature the majority do get slower. DB will be using their young players to keep the tempo up.

I'm not sure a Big 9 all-star team could win the regional this year.

Also lookout for Volunteer, I hear there is a chance a family is moving in that has twins who are excellent athletes and are both over 6'1" and they will be sophmores. More later.

  16. And what team are you a fan of? I would like to know so I can follow there progress since they (unlike DB) are a shoe in for a gold ball

I do not have a "TEAM" that I follow. I'm just a sports fan that will tell you what I think. How many times have the tribe fans been disappointed in recent years thinking they could win the state. They just can't seem to get over the hump. Maybe this is "THEIR YEAR", but I don't think so.

    Good Luck!!!!

  17. Science Hill is too slow, Tenn. High lost too many players, South was bad last year but should do a little better (if they get a new coach), Central, No size inside, I don't think so. Volunteer could be competitive for a region spot, Crockett- No, Boone should be in the mix, East - No, "IF" DB does run this year they could be the team to beat if they play slow ball they might make it to regionals.

    Good Luck to all.

    1. DB

    2. Boone

    3. Science Hill

    4. Volunteer

    5. Tenn. High

    6. Central

    7. South

    8-9. Crocket and East

  18. 1 and 2- DB, Science Hill in some order, who knows

    3-9 Up for grabs.

It seems like all the 3-9 teams lack important position players. Either they need an inside game or need some shooters, or a quality proven point guard.

1 and 2 seem to have all the pieces in place.

It will soon be here and I can't wait.

  19. The 7th place victory would have clinched the meet for Robinson, but the 50 somethin victory lost the meet for Robinson, and handed it to Sevier. All i know is the Slipstream is very unreliable, i advise no one to run in a meet where it is used.

Sometimes mistakes happen, live with it. If no one runs in a meet timed by slipstream there won't be anybody at all the BIG meets because they do them all. I would hate to see some of the meets if they weren't involved. Have you ever tried to pick 5th place in a close 100 meter race on a 9 lane track? If you have you will appreciate the job they do. I know, I've been there and done that. If Robinson did lose that meet because of an error, the sun still came up the next day. It's just a sport not life or death.
