Congratulations to Haywood. An amazing team. Much respect and best of luck going forward.

RIP to Milan being in 4A! Thank you for the memories!

We laugh, we cried, we hug, and we smiled. We shared tears, and we sung the Milan fight song a lot. Can we have an actual bulldog in Milan as the team mascot for next season?

I've been to and broadcast plenty of games over the years at various public schools in memphis. We never got, nor asked for a police escort. My last trip was to Oakhaven  to play Mitchell a few years ago. I've broadcast playoff games from Oakhaven, Crump Stadium, BTW, Manassas and a couple of other places in not so great areas. I never had any problems

The security was probably the security that Peabody brought down. I went to a playoff game last year, and this year in Memphis, and I didn’t have a problem feeling unsafe. MPD had several police officers around, and I appreciate that! I can’t imagine this game being any different than what I experienced.

  3. Recap so far:

Driggers scored on a long run on the first play from scrimmage.
MASE’s was moving on their first drive, but neglected my penalties. Punted the ball, but went 0 yards.
Peabody had the ball at MASE’s 28, and got a first down off an encroachment. Scored later to make 14-0

MASE’s Brown scored on a long run of 45+ yards

    Peabody leads 14-8

I have heard that at least 8 sheriffs vehicles have escorted the Peabody team, coaches, and fans to Memphis. The Peabody media is even getting an escort. Shouldn't security be the responsibility of the home team (MASE)?

Tell me you haven’t been to a game in Memphis recently without telling me you haven’t been to a game in Memphis.

  5. MASE 30 Peabody 21.

I’m hesitant to give Peabody this game because the defense has to have an A+ game for them to win. If Peabody scores 21, they have a shot. If they score 28, then I really do feel confident they can win. I just don’t know if they score 28 on this team.
I’m more confident MASE can score 28, than Peabody. That’s how I see it

How are these decided? Some approved and some denied. What gives here?

Politics and connections will likely get a team approved. Pretty much simple. I would like to know why teams do get approved and why teams get denied. And if someone would like to share that, please feel free.

I'll give you an example here.

Millington is located in Shelby County, and is placed in Region 7 in cross country. Millington requested to move from Region 7 to Region 8 (A region with everybody in Memphis and Shelby County). However, the TSSAA denied that request. I would like to find out why they declined Millington's request to move from Region 7 (a non Shelby County region) to Region 8 (all teams from Shelby County).

The appeal wasn't really about travel, it was about moving out of a large region into a small one. With only three elective games (every odd year one home game, then two the next), our gate money will be drastically reduced. Add to that we're moving up in classification, and not one traditional rival game on our schedule to draw a visiting crowd. TSSAA has put us squarely behind the eight ball with this decision in the only way that we can't work around...in the bank account.

I agreed, and that's why I thought it was odd seeing these regions formed when the TSSAA released it. For Scott's Hill, I doubt y'all will get a good gate from Ripley (too far), Bolivar, and Liberty. The question marks will be Covington, Dyersburg, and Westview. The only legitimate gate will be McNairy Central.

So it's a definite must that the Lions schedule both Riverside and Adamsville on the schedule as well. I hope both Riverside and Adamsville can schedule y'all because they're in a 8 team region as well. I'm sure Riverside/Lexington will be a matchup along with Adamsville/Hardin County.

  8. This is kind of funny here.

Milan's request to move from District 12-A to District 13-A has been approved. Why is that important? Region. The Memphis region is not good at volleyball. Gibson County actually made it to the state tournament in volleyball. The whole purpose of this move was to get Milan volleyball to the state tournament. If they were to stay at 12-A, the chances wouldn't be impossible, but not necessarily great.

In football, the TSSAA made a mistake by not putting Dresden in Region 6-1A, so Humboldt requested to move over. It's an easier path for to host a playoff game and make to the 2nd/3rd rounds. That has been denied.

Scotts Hill is like the 7th smallest school in 3A. It's odd to vision Scotts Hill having more students than Milan, and being a 3A school. The TSSAA put 5 teams in Region 6-3A, and have 8 teams in Region 7-3A. Scott's Hill request to move over, that has been denied. Now, Scott's Hill will have to travel to Covington, Ripley, and Dyersburg for region play.

Midway did the same thing. There are 8 teams in Region 2-1A and Midway wanted to move over to Region 1-1A (would even the regions out at 7). That has been denied.
